Ye Yuning’s villa wasn’t large, but the decor was incredibly exquisite. Gui Xingli had looked around both upstairs and downstairs and couldn’t help but exclaim, "You also like this modern Chinese style."
Ye Yuning raised an eyebrow, sensing a deeper aning in Gui Xingli’s words.
She nodded. "Yes, I prefer Chinese styles."
"Hmm," Gui Xingli replied.
As expected of siblings, they had much in common when it ca to their tastes.
Ye Yuning arranged a pleasant room for Gui Xingli, and Xingli quite liked its decor.
The two talked until eleven at night before they went to wash up and sleep.
Only when Ye Yuning was lying in bed did she pick up her phone.
There was a missed call on her phone. It was... from Xiao Linye.
Seeing his number, Ye Yuning’s heart clenched painfully.
A week! she thought. For a full week, he hadn’t seen her, nor had he called.
After everything was exposed! He had simply vanished, as if everything between them had been nothing more than a dream, sothing that had never truly existed.
The call had co an hour ago. Should I call back? Ye Yuning wondered. But he only called once. It hardly seems necessary to return it.
Suppressing the ache in her heart, she put the phone down.
Just as she set it down, her phone emitted a soft BUZZ. A text ssage had arrived.
She picked it up. It was from Xiao Linye.
She didn’t know what he wanted to say to her; her fingers trembled as she opened it.
But the content... ultimately disappointed her.
[Shang Yu is not a good person. Stay away from him!]
It was just a simple sentence, as if rely passing on a ssage.
Shang Yu isn’t a good person? Is he telling not to cooperate with Shang Yu?!
Faced with such a ssage, Ye Yuning didn’t know how to respond for a mont.
She stared at the ssage, sowhat dazed.
Xiao Linye sent nothing more. The ssage seed to be just a reminder...
Ye Yuning’s heart felt heavy, and eventually, she put down her phone.
「 ... 」
On Xiao Linye’s end, he was waiting for Ye Yuning’s reply.
But after the ssage was sent, it was t with silence, like a stone dropped into the ocean. She hadn’t responded with a single word.
He swirled the red wine in his glass.
After a long mont, he gave a bitter, self-mocking laugh. "What a heartless woman."
After everything ca to light, she had beco so cold, severing all ties between them so completely.
Fine. Very fine.
She used to act so ek and gentle in front of . Is she too lazy to even pretend now?
Kang Xuan entered. "Sir, Mr. Shang is here."
Xiao Linye’s gaze darkened. "Let him in!"
Kang Xuan nodded and turned to leave.
Soon, Shang Yu entered.
Under the bright lights, both n possessed a striking presence. Xiao Linye’s deanor was a blend of gentleness and sharpness, while Shang Yu possessed a uniquely captivating yet formidable aura. Both were exceptional, each with their own commanding presence.
Xiao Linye set down his wine glass, took out a cigarette, and then tossed the pack to Shang Yu.
Shang Yu caught it and placed it directly on the coffee table. "I don’t smoke, thank you."
Xiao Linye raised an eyebrow. "The epito of a considerate man?"
Shang Yu replied, "That depends on your perspective. In your eyes, at least, I’m hardly a good man."
Xiao Linye’s face stiffened. His expression, as he looked at Shang Yu, was decidedly cold. "State your purpose!"
Shang Yu’s sudden arrival in Upper City and his direct contact with Ye Yuning—Xiao Linye didn’t believe for a mont that he had no ulterior motive.
Shang Yu said, "What purpose could I have? I simply heard that your wife—no, ex-wife—is exceptionally talented in design and wished to collaborate. That’s all."
Wife... ex-wife!
Those words grated harshly on Xiao Linye’s nerves. His gaze, fixed on Shang Yu, now held a dangerous glint.
Their gazes locked.
Shang Yu’s captivating eyes held an inscrutable smile, while Xiao Linye’s face was etched with an icy disdain.
"She’s not soone you should be getting close to." Each word was delivered with icy precision.
Xiao Linye had suffered losses due to the Turanxi affair, creating a feud between them. Yet, Xiao Linye didn’t believe he had done anything particularly egregious to Shang Yu. Even if there had been sothing, it was rely normal business competition. If Shang Yu held a grudge over that and intended to harm those close to him... then he, Xiao Linye, would naturally not show any rcy.
An aura of nace emanated from Xiao Linye, enveloping Shang Yu, who rely chuckled. "So, collaboration is out of the question?"
Xiao Linye stated, "If it were rely a straightforward collaboration, I certainly wouldn’t stop you!"
But in his view, Shang Yu approaching Ye Yuning was unlikely to be for sothing as simple as collaboration.
Shang Yu countered, "Then what purpose do you believe I have?"
They exchanged sharp words. The atmosphere in the room grew palpably hostile, thick with unspoken tension.
When Kang Xuan entered with docunts, a thin layer of cold sweat had already broken out on his back from the tension.
He respectfully approached Xiao Linye and handed him the docunts. "Sir, the files you requested."
Xiao Linye took them and slamd them down in front of Shang Yu.
Shang Yu raised an eyebrow. "And this is?"
Xiao Linye retorted, "This contains what you’re after. Stay far away from her!"
Shang Yu said nothing. He glanced at the files slamd down in front of him but made no move to pick them up, rely looking at Xiao Linye with a faint smile.
Xiao Linye, agitated, lit the cigarette in his hand and took a harsh drag. "Stay away from her from now on. Otherwise, don’t bla for being ruthless."
His every word dripped with nace and threat.
Shang Yu asked, "You two are divorced, aren’t you?"
At these words, the already frigid aura around Xiao Linye intensified, becoming even more nacing. The glare he directed at Shang Yu grew sharper still.
