A deathly silence made Maxwell Peary realize sothing was wrong.

He looked down at Nia Mitchell, who was sitting on his lap. Her changed expression instantly shattered the ambiguous atmosphere that lingered.

She had fallen silent... After his question, Rabina Mitchell had actually...

"Nia Mitchell."

Maxwell furrowed his brows, his displeasure evident. He pushed her away, and their eyes t.

"Talk."

Nia struggled hard to free herself from Maxwell’s hold and stood up. After moving about two ters away, she stopped.

"Do you love ?"

When it ca to feelings, Nia wanted equality.

He didn’t love her, so why should she be expected to like him?

Upon hearing Nia’s words, Maxwell’s face darkened considerably.

"Answer my question."

Maxwell wouldn’t allow her to change the subject, his tone growing heavier as he emphasized his demand.

"Maxwell, I don’t want to lie to you."

After saying this, Nia turned, opened the door, and left.

Closing the door behind her, Nia took a deep breath. She looked utterly dejected, and her eyes were slightly red.

She didn’t know how she had ended up in the Secretary Departnt. The whole world seed to spin, and her vision was blurred.

She didn’t know if she felt this way because she didn’t love Maxwell, or because she’d discovered that he didn’t love her.

"Oh, did you get fired?"

Sophia Moore couldn’t believe it when she saw Nia walk into the Secretary Departnt, looking like a wilted eggplant.

Such an ordinary person managed to trip up Phoebe Walker?

Phoebe Walker must be pretty weak then.

Look at her now; there’s nothing special about Nia Mitchell.

Rose Eastwood had been taken away by the Security Guards, leaving the Secretary Departnt quiet. Everyone was, intentionally or unintentionally, watching Nia, curious about her next move.

"Nia, are you okay?" Diana Hill asked softly, a little worried by Nia’s dazed expression.

"I’m fine."

Nia gave an awkward, pale smile.

Hours passed in a daze, and soon it was ti to leave the Office Room.

"Nia, it’s ti to leave."

Diana Hill packed up her things. Seeing Nia still working and looking unwell, she couldn’t help but remind her.

She probably hadn’t been fired. If she had, she wouldn’t still be working.

"Yeah, I just have a little bit left to finish. I’ll leave soon. You go ahead." Nia managed a forced smile.

Diana Hill had no choice but to nod and leave.

As if by unspoken agreent, everyone in the Secretary Departnt left in a swarm. The large Office Room was instantly empty and silent, with only Nia Mitchell remaining.

Usually at this ti, she would quietly slip into the CEO’s Office Room. But now...

The sudden ringing of her phone startled Nia. She quickly answered it.

"Hello?" she said, slightly anxious.

"Have you left work?"

Edbert’s voice ca through the phone. She had called him earlier in the day, inviting him for dinner that night.

He’d thought she had forgotten all about him these past few days.

"Yes."

Nia sounded a little dejected as she humd in agreent, her free hand switching off the computer.

"A capitalist is inviting you to dinner. Are you free tonight?"

Edbert lightly tapped the steering wheel with his left hand. His expensive black Rolls-Royce was parked on the roadside by the main entrance of the MC Group building.

"If you’re treating to dinner, of course I have ti." Nia chuckled. "Since you, the capitalist, are so free today, co pick up."

She packed her things, slung her bag over her shoulder, and walked out.
