"Sister-in-law, why don’t you stay in the Imperial City for a few more days? I promise what happened last time won’t happen again, and I’ll definitely protect you."
On the way to the airport, Feng Yize reluctantly tried to persuade Momo to stay.
Momo sat sideways, looking at the scenery outside the car window, with a faint smile on her delicate and pretty face.
Upon hearing his words, she did not turn her head.
She just chuckled and said, "No need. Ye Zhan isn’t here. What’s the point of staying?"
"Sister-in-law, I can acpany you."
Feng Yize held his heart as if it was wounded.
Sister-in-law, this is too heartless.
Even if my brother isn’t here, isn’t there me and Third Brother?
Besides, I’m the best at having fun.
"You?"
Momo finally turned her face, her smiling eyes falling on his handsome face, "Forget it, I don’t want to play with you."
"That awful woman Ji Anyun almost drove a wedge between you and my brother. Don’t you want to take revenge? I can go with you to the hospital to get back at her."
"I don’t want revenge."
Momo shook her head.
In a city without Ye Zhan, no person or thing could make her want to stay.
"Brother won’t leave until evening. There’s still a few hours. We can go find him, or I can let you see him secretly."
Hearing this, Momo was momentarily moved.
A hint of struggle flickered in her watery eyes but quickly disappeared.
She soon regained her calm, as clear as water, "No need to see him."
"Sister-in-law, you don’t need to worry that staying a few extra days will cause trouble for me and Third Brother. Don’t you have two experts with you?"
"You don’t have to say anything. I’ve decided to go back."
The sudden ringing of a phone caused Momo’s heart to tremble. It was a ringtone she had set specifically, different from the others.
Her eyes changed slightly as she quickly pulled out her phone.
Feng Yize closed his mouth, curiously watching her.
On the screen, Ye Zhan’s name made Momo furrow her brows.
"Sister-in-law, it’s my brother calling, why aren’t you answering?" Feng Yize tilted his head, seeing the caller ID.
"He knows I haven’t left."
Momo looked at the flashing "Ye Zhan" on the screen.
If she had returned to G City, her phone would be off by now.
Ye Zhan knew she hadn’t left, so he called her.
She secretly took a breath, suppressing the emotions stirred up by his call, and lightly pressed the answer button with her index finger.
Putting the phone to her ear, she softly spoke, "Hello."
There was a quiet stillness on the line.
After Momo’s "Hello," Ye Zhan did not speak immediately.
This brief silence made her heart tighten.
There was some emotion surging in Momo’s eyes.
"Ye Zhan, say something."
"Momo, do you already know?"
Ye Zhan’s voice came with a gentle sigh.
Momo felt a sharp pang, biting her lip tightly.
She tried to pull up a smile, "Yes, I know, I’ll wait for you to e back."
"Momo."
"I’m not mad at you. I know you didn’t want me to worry. I just went to see Grandpa, and now I’m on the way to the airport, taking the next flight back to G City."
Momo tried to keep her voice light and cheerful.
She told herself that all her reluctance and worry must be tightly hidden away.
She couldn’t let Ye Zhan worry.
Nor could her reluctance affect him.
Since she chose him, she had to learn to adapt to his profession, to think of him.
And not just cling to him with romantic feelings.
On the other end of the line, Ye Zhan stood still without moving.
The more understanding and considerate Momo was, the more it pained him.
Momo didn’t give him a chance to speak; her voice came with a laugh, "Want to hear some good news?"
"What good news?"
He curved his lips, his voice gentle and warm.
Momo laughed again.
In his mind, a vivid image of her smiling, bright and beautiful, appeared, filling him with tenderness and warmth.
Hearing her laughing voice mixed with a trace of girlish shyness, "I talked it over with Grandpa, when you e back this time, we’ll get married."
