Actually, this was just a random excuse that He Zerui made up to get Mi Wan to make another call. Mi Wan thought it made so sense; after all, if she called from an unfamiliar number, it’s possible the other person might think it’s just a spam or fraud call and wouldn’t answer.

So, she didn’t hesitate and pressed the dial button again.

This ti, the call was quickly answered. Mi Wan gave He Zerui a glance and then politely said, "Hello, Mr. He. My last na is Mi, I live in the sa neighborhood as you. Your nephew Zerui has a scraped palm. I want to take him ho to clean the wound. What do you think?"

Mi Wan thought for a mont and decided not to ntion the near car accident to avoid worrying the other party.

"Okay."

Just two words?

The man’s overly brief response surprised Mi Wan, but his voice sounded a bit tense, so she tentatively asked, "Mr. He, are you unable to talk right now?"

"...Hmm." The other party was silent for two seconds and then gave an even briefer reply.

But why did a simple syllable make her feel so familiar?

It was as if deeply buried mories were being awakened. Her heart suddenly surged with inexplicable excitent and agitation! Unconsciously, her mind filled with images of Ji Dongquan. Hearing the breathing sounds from the other end of the phone, her heartbeat beca irregular and accelerated, her entire heart throbbing chaotically.

Is it him?

Could it be Ji Dongquan?

Mi Wan wondered sowhat excitedly, but when she saw He Zerui from the corner of her eye, her speculation was instantly shattered!

What’s wrong with her?

Is she daydreaming in broad daylight?

The other party is He Zerui’s uncle, so he must have the surna He. How could he possibly be Ji Dongquan?

Realizing her overreaction, an awkward look flashed across Mi Wan’s face, and she softly said, "I won’t disturb you any longer. I’ll take care of Zerui’s wound and bring him ho. That’s all. Goodbye."

After hanging up the phone, Mi Wan suddenly noticed that her palm was sweating!

How abnormal!

And this feeling was too weird. It was obviously just a stranger, and it was clearly just a simple and brief phone call. But why did she react so strongly, as if being pulled by so irresistible force that shattered her calm and reason?

Leaning against the seat’s backrest, Mi Wan regained her senses and then closed her eyes. The darkness helped calm her emotions quickly.

He Zerui sat quietly beside her, quietly observing Mi Wan’s reaction. But just as Mi Wan opened her eyes, he imdiately withdrew his gaze and looked down at the soccer ball in his hands, pretending to be dazed.

"Zerui, sit properly," Mi Wan reminded while starting the car.

Upon hearing this, He Zerui seed to snap back to reality and obediently nodded his head.

The car had just pulled into the front yard when Li Bing ca out, having heard the noise. Seeing He Zerui getting out of the car, she was slightly surprised for a mont and then asked, "Wan, who’s this boy?"

As far as Li Bing knew, Mi Wan had only one daughter, who was well-mannered, sweet, and very likable.

"He’s a neighbor’s child. He nearly got hit earlier. Fortunately, he only scraped his palm." After explaining, Mi Wan introduced, "Zerui, this is Auntie’s classmate, Li Bing, Auntie Li."

"Hello, Auntie Li." He Zerui said chanically without much expression, his manner exuding an indifferent sense of distance.

"Hello."

Thinking he was just shy, Li Bing smiled kindly without paying much attention.

The three of them entered the house. Li i was curled up in her room without coming out, so quiet that if Mi Wan didn’t know she couldn’t go out, she wouldn’t be sure she was ho. It seed Li i was really too withdrawn.

"Bingbing, why not find a psychologist for i?"

Mi Wan had brought up this issue twice before, but Li i had refused each ti. She insisted that she was fine and didn’t need a psychologist, just wanted to be alone.

But this situation had been going on for nearly a week with no improvent, so Mi Wan couldn’t help but worry.

"Sigh, let’s wait until the case is over and then see."

Talking about her sister, Li Bing beca a bit lancholy. They had mobility issues now, and though Li i kept a routine of eating and reading, apart from being very quiet, nothing seed amiss. They had already troubled Mi Wan a lot, so they didn’t want to burden her further.

"But dragging on like this isn’t a solution either?"

"It’s okay; i is quite accustod to living here. She sotis goes to the rooftop to get so air and watch the sunset. She’s not always cooped up in the room."

Since Li Bing said so, Mi Wan didn’t insist further. She placed the first aid kit on the coffee table, opened it, and took out so disinfectant and cotton swabs.

"Zerui, put out your hand. Auntie will apply so dicine for you," Mi Wan said gently as she poured so disinfectant and soaked the cotton swab in it.

He Zerui sat on the sofa with the soccer ball in his arms. Upon hearing this, he obediently extended his injured little hand.

"Does it hurt?"

Disinfectants usually sting on wounds, pain is inevitable, but He Zerui didn’t seem to feel any pain at all. He didn’t even blink or frown, which surprised Mi Wan.

"..."

He Zerui still didn’t speak, just shook his head simply.

Seeing this, Mi Wan smiled and praised, "What a brave little man!"

Perhaps this was the difference between boys and girls!

If it were Xuanxuan, even the smallest bump would make her cry out in pain. How could she be as brave and unafraid as He Zerui!

But later, Mi Wan ca to know that boys aren’t naturally unafraid of pain. His calm reaction was closely related to his unfortunate experiences, but that’s a story for another ti.

Li Bing sat in a single chair, deeply moved as she watched Mi Wan’s gentle expression. Such a strong maternal glow could only emanate from a mother.

This thought made Li Bing’s heart ache.

Because she couldn’t have children, she lost her husband and her marriage. The man who was once her husband had remarried and now had children, enjoying a happy family life. But she remained alone, unable to hastily accept another marriage or find a man who truly accepted her.
