"Quan, why are you so stubborn? Think about it, Mi Wan is a divorced woman, how could she be good enough for you?" Shi Minjun dropped her overbearing deanor, her helpless tone revealing a trace of disappointnt. This was what she truly felt; in her eyes, Mi Wan had never been good enough for her son. She wasn’t good enough before, and she is even less so now!
"So what if she’s divorced? To be honest, a lot of the credit goes to you." When Ji Dongquan ntioned the word "credit," his tone was cold and low, mixed with a heavy sense of resentnt.
Even though he chose not to dwell on his mother’s past actions, it didn’t an he could completely forgive her! So many years had passed, and after experiencing so much, he thought she might understand him sowhat, or at least sympathize with his feelings. But she remained as stubborn as ever. Faced with her, Ji Dongquan couldn’t help but vent the resentnt he had buried in his heart, like a sharp knife stabbing into Shi Minjun’s heart.
Feeling a tight pain in her chest, a flash of sorrow crossed Shi Minjun’s cold eyes as she angrily shouted, "What kind of spell did Mi Wan cast on you to make you resent so much!"
"What you did has nothing to do with Wanwan. Did she hold a knife to your throat to force you to do those things?" After saying this, Ji Dongquan then noticed He Zerui was still there, so he said to him, "Zerui, go upstairs and sleep."
Hearing this command again, He Zerui imdiately ran upstairs, wanting to quickly leave this mother-son quarrel that had no signs of smoke.
"Anyway, no matter what, I will never agree to you being with Mi Wan!" Even if Ji Dongquan would hate her for the rest of his life, she wouldn’t change her mind!
"When it cos to it, I might not need your approval." Ji Dongquan’s expression was stern. Although he knew that saying these words would hurt Shi Minjun, he couldn’t back down. No matter what, he wanted to be with Mi Wan.
"It’s late, go rest early."
After saying this, Ji Dongquan stepped directly upstairs, his originally good mood turning heavy because of Shi Minjun’s arrival.
On New Year’s Eve, a very festive day, every household had already pasted up spring couplets, and even the usually deserted villa where Ji Dongquan lived was no exception.
At noon, Mi Wan drove Xuanxuan to Ji Dongquan’s ho. Having known Mi Wan would co, He Zerui walked out of the house as soon as he heard the car’s engine.
"Zerui." Mi Wan walked toward He Zerui, calling his na with a smile, but He Zerui didn’t show his usual faint smile. Instead, his eyes were strangely cold and ominous.
"Brother..." Xuanxuan, holding Kabi, thought that since Kabi was so cute, the brother who lived at Mr. Ji’s house would surely like it, so she bead and wanted to introduce Kabi to He Zerui. But as soon as she called "Brother," He Zerui turned around and left with a cold face.
"Mom, this brother doesn’t like Xuanxuan." Watching He Zerui’s departing figure, Xuanxuan pouted, feeling both sad and wronged.
"Uh..." Mi Wan was also very surprised. Although He Zerui’s personality was rather aloof, he had always been close to her. But for so reason, today, when she brought Xuanxuan, he ignored her?
Could he be jealous?
It’s said that children with autism often lack a sense of security.
Could it be that Xuanxuan’s presence made him feel uncomfortable? But she had ntioned Xuanxuan to He Zerui many tis before?
A multitude of questions welled up in Mi Wan’s heart. Looking at Xuanxuan’s wronged little face, she felt both distressed and gently comforted her, "It’s not that brother doesn’t like Xuanxuan. Mom thinks maybe brother is just in a bad mood today, so he doesn’t want to talk. Brother used to not be like this."
"Even if he’s in a bad mood, he shouldn’t ignore people! That’s very rude!" Xuanxuan shouted angrily. She thought, her Kabi was so cute, and this brother didn’t like it; hmph, he must be a loveless person!
"Who made our Xuanxuan angry?" Ji Dongquan stepped out of the house. He had already encountered He Zerui with a cold face on his way, and seeing the little dog in Xuanxuan’s arms, he understood what had happened, but he pretended not to know and asked Xuanxuan knowingly.
"Xuanxuan is not angry." Xuanxuan didn’t like tattling. In kindergarten, she didn’t like classmates who always tattled to the teacher, so even though she felt wronged, she didn’t complain about He Zerui to Ji Dongquan. Instead, she happily said to him, "Mr. Ji, I brought Kabi too. Do you welco Kabi?"
"Welco." Ji Dongquan rubbed Xuanxuan’s head and said, "But, brother doesn’t like little animals. Can Xuanxuan let Kabi play in the yard?"
"Is brother so timid?" Xuanxuan couldn’t believe that a boy would be so timid; she even felt a bit of contempt for He Zerui.
Hearing this, Ji Dongquan laughed and said, "It’s not that brother is timid. When brother was very young, he was bullied by little animals, so no matter how cute the animal is, brother doesn’t like them."
When He Zerui was taken away from the He Family by Ji Dongquan, he was only five years old. He should have been an innocent and carefree child, but he was abused so severely that the innocence in his eyes was gone, replaced by gloomy coldness. His small body was covered in scars, and he was severely malnourished.
The abuse He Zerui suffered at the He Family’s hands was only ntioned to Ji Dongquan later. Despite being one family, the He Family showed no regard for kinship; they were brutal, cold-blooded, and twisted, not even sparing a child. If it weren’t for Ji Dongquan insistently taking He Zerui away back then, he would have been tortured to death by He Gang!
After hearing Ji Dongquan’s explanation, Xuanxuan imdiately forgave He Zerui’s impoliteness and obediently left Kabi to play in the yard.
Lunch was prepared by Mi Wan and Ji Dongquan together. Xuanxuan, seeing that He Zerui didn’t like to interact with people, didn’t take the initiative to look for him to play but followed Ji Dongquan and Mi Wan around, happily helping with so small tasks.
"Shorty, can you manage?"
As Xuanxuan carried bowls and chopsticks out of the kitchen, a cold voice suddenly ca. She looked up and saw He Zerui standing with his arms crossed over his chest, looking condescendingly at her.
"..."
Shorty?
In their class, she was one of the tallest, how could she be a shorty?
Xuanxuan felt He Zerui was very rude. While secretly despising him, she didn’t bother to respond and headed straight to the dining table.
Since Xuanxuan’s height was just slightly taller than the dining table, she had to stand on tiptoes. However, as soon as the bottom of the bowl touched the edge of the table, it was taken from her hand.
Startled, Xuanxuan glanced to the side and saw He Zerui, still cold-faced, but skillfully placing the bowls on the table.
