Chapter 790: Chapter 774: Infrastructure Maniac

In the vast developntal environnt within the country, one had housing, food when hungry, and clothing against the cold!

Even if soone was doing poorly and living conditions were sowhat harsh, ordinary people from the majority of regions hardly ever felt excessive survival pressure, at least not fearing being attacked by wild animals in the middle of the night.

But in the wilderness, these issues ca to the fore, and they were of the highest priority. Just thinking of large animals roaming around at night sent chills down Yue Feng’s spine!

Upon returning to camp, Yue Feng imdiately grabbed a shovel.

“Brothers! Our next task, and the most important one, is building a shelter! According to the original plan, we were supposed to lay stones at the bottom, keep a simple shallow cellar, and then cover it with pine wood for the floor, followed by a single-person wooden hut on top!

But now that we have shovels, our efficiency in digging has significantly improved, so we can adjust the plan! I’ve decided that we will expand the depth of the cellar to at least half a ter deep!

The soil we dig out will be piled outside the stone wall, enhancing the wind protection and insulation! This way, we’ll have storage below and living space above! It should be a bit more comfortable!”

“That’s a good suggestion! Using the bottom as a storage, just like a basent storage room downstairs! But I’m curious if Feng can build a wooden hut? We only have wood and an ax, not a single iron nail. Can you manage?”

“A partially subrged structure will make the hut lower and thus warr to live in! If possible, we’ll need to leave a space for a fireplace to keep warm!”

I just checked, and by entering the high-latitude areas around the Arctic Circle, in October, we’re looking at temperatures dropping to minus ten or twenty degrees, almost like the Northeast winters! If we want to last two months, we need to be fully prepared!”

Yue Feng nodded, spat into the palm of his hand, “Building a wooden hut isn’t difficult. We don’t need nails; we can use the ax to carve out simple mortise and tenon joints! It’s getting late; let’s get to work!”

Well-fed and bursting with energy, Yue Feng took the shovel and got busy in the designated foundation area.

He briefly rearranged the temporary shelter where he had slept the night before to one side and then began digging to expand the foundation. The excavated soil was strategically piled around the periter, gradually deepening the cellar.

The rocky terrain didn’t look promising at first glance, but digging up wasn’t t with unforeseen obstacles. The soil was quite fertile; after the topsoil layer was removed, deeper layers were even looser, saving Yue Feng a lot of effort.

While Yue Feng was leveraging his ethnic advantage to build like a construction fanatic, the other Challengers were also settling in well.

Aside from Yue Feng, of the remaining nine participants, the retired soldier, a Black guy with the number eight, was living the most comfortably!

This guy, nad Claude, was a forr Navy SEAL with five years of service, possessing outstanding physical fitness and skilled in hand-to-hand combat and archery.

Comparable to Yue Feng’s start, Claude was not to be outdone. He had already hunted a thirty-pound porcupine by yesterday evening.

At this mont, Claude, with no pressure for food, did not focus all his attention on the shelter,

His dwelling was a simple tent made from single-layer plastic oil paper and umbrella ropes. With his good physical fitness and a sleeping bag, he didn’t find the nights particularly difficult to endure.

At this mont, the guy was holding a bow and arrow and a military knife, and with his backpack on, he was patrolling and exploring the area around the chosen campsite.

In his words, “Only by fully understanding the surrounding environnt can one make the best choices! Starting to blindly build a shelter without any knowledge of the water sources around is very foolish behavior.”

Sure, there was so truth to what he said, but this guy, who didn’t have to worry about food, wandered around the area of several square kiloters for a whole day without any effective gains, wasting a lot of ti for nothing.

By late evening, after a whole day of work, Yue Feng had completely finished the cellar part of his shelter.

It was a large space, 2.5 ters long, 1.8 ters wide, and over 60 centiters deep. With the stones piled around the outside as a foundation, the height of the cellar was nearly one ter. Yue Feng had dug deep pits at each corner and firmly buried the foundation of the cabin, facilitating subsequent construction.

The pine wood he had cut down yesterday was neatly laid on top of the cellar, leaving an exit in the direction of the fire. At night, a person could crawl into the cellar to sleep, and as long as the fire at the entrance didn’t go out, it was quite safe inside.

The whole day was spent digging, and the only break was for lunch when Yue Feng went to the water to clean a rabbit and a squirrel, and incidentally caught a fish to bring back to camp.

The strenuous digging work considerably increased Yue Feng’s appetite in a short ti. Almost none of the pri at from the fish and the rabbit was left over. After eating, Yue Feng threw the remains far away from the campsite.

Just before going to bed, Yue Feng also set up alarm lines around the campsite, hanging several rotten cans on the PE lines so that any creature passing by would make a noise.

The night was still far from peaceful. Not long after it got dark, the sounds of beasts’ uneven roars could be heard in the distance. Under the stimulation of these eerie sounds, the exhausted Yue Feng oddly suffered from insomnia, staring wide-eyed into the night until he finally fell asleep past midnight.

In the next two days, Yue Feng would get up early to work on the shelter and rest early at night after eating his fill, leading a life with so shocks but no real dangers.

It took a full four days, but Yue Feng’s solo cabin was finally built!

Regarding the cellar, as previously ntioned, the upper floor and walls of the cabin were built from logs, and the connecting parts of the wooden fra were secured with simple Y-shaped dovetail joints.

Layer upon layer of pine wood was stacked to form the walls of the cabin. The earth excavated from the outside was heaped up at the base of the outside walls to make the house as airtight as possible!

As for the inside of the house, it was still bare ground for now, except for a chimney kept at the southwest corner. Large and small rocks were chosen by Yue Feng and combined with mud to construct a simple hearth. The smoke from the burning hearth was vented through the chimney,

At night, when sleeping, there would be a fire in the hearth, and the entrance would be blocked with a simple wooden fence. Although it still wasn’t perfect, it avoided the risk of being exposed to the outdoors.

The basic construction of the cabin was completed, but there was still much more to be done.

The only utensil he had at hand was a small field pot he carried with him. He used it for fetching water and cooking all the ti, but it was very inconvenient for storing food, which he could only place on a relatively clean stone slab.

Yue Feng had gained a preliminary understanding of the soil quality from the excavation. After so thought, he decided to use the rest ti at the camp to produce so rough pottery to serve as daily water storage and item containers.
