Chapter 744: Chapter 731: Persuading to Rescue
“Look at its pitiful appearance, it must be hungry, right? Why don’t we give it sothing to eat?” Wawa’s heart softened upon hearing this.
In the current social system, an orphaned child suffers imnse hardship, let alone a bear cub in the wild without its mother.
No wonder it looked so frail and vulnerable; the little guy must have been starving. It only approached because it slled the tempting aroma of the fish soup. You should know that wild bear cubs are very timid. If it hadn’t been driven crazy by hunger, it would never have approached humans on its own.
“Uncle Victor, such a big bear baby, there shouldn’t be much danger, right?”
Yue Feng did not imdiately respond to Wawa. Instead, he turned to look at Uncle Victor. Yue Feng always believed in leaving professional matters to the professionals, and he treated the issue with the bear cub the sa way.
Victor nodded, “In principle, there should not be too much risk. However, if you are going to feed it, be careful. A bear’s claws and teeth carry a lot of bacteria. If they scratch you and you bleed, getting infected could be troubleso!”
“We’ve caught so many fish, why don’t we give so to it? Look how pitiful it looks!” Wawa looked up at Yue Feng with a hopeful expression, fearing that Yue Feng might refuse because of the risk.
Yue Feng smiled, “Sure, it’s just a bear cub! We can’t finish all these fish anyway. Excluding what we’ll eat for lunch, I have no objections to giving the rest to it!”
Seeing Yue Feng agree, Wawa finally relaxed her furrowed brow.
She bent over and cautiously moved towards the bear cub, picking up a large piece of the prepared Silver Trout at.
Although the bear cub was very hungry, it had not reached the point of complete disregard for risk. It instantly beca alert and looked up as Wawa slowly walked towards it, quickly planning to turn and run.
Seeing this, Wawa stopped, swung her arm, and threw the fish at towards it.
The distance between the human and the bear was only about twenty to thirty ters; the fish at was thrown more than ten ters and landed on the ground, still more than ten ters away from the bear cub.
The bear cub ran a few steps but, seeing that Wawa had no intention of chasing, it quickly stopped. Its wet nose sniffed the air, and it quickly realized that what was thrown was not a stone or weapon, but a piece of boneless, delicious fish at.
Being so young, the bear probably didn’t know how to fish yet, and the water wasn’t shallow enough for it to easily pick up fish to eat. This bear cub hadn’t eaten for a long ti.
Once sure it was fish at, it quickly rushed over, grabbed the fish at, and ran off.
A piece of fish at might weigh just over half a pound, which might be enough to fill a small appetite in humans, but for a bear cub that had been starving for a long ti, it was barely enough to touch the sides.
Gulping down the at in no ti, the bear cub ca back in less than a minute!
The drone’s high-definition cara captured the bear cub grabbing the at and turning to run, as well as the footage of it gobbling the at down after running a few dozen ters. The viewers, who had been expressing various emotions in the live stream, suddenly fell silent.
Seeing the thin little guy devour the at so desperately was like watching a starving holess person who had found a bun and stuffed it into their stomach in three bites, causing the white of their eyes to roll back. The audience in the live stream felt a tinge of heartache.
“Baby Bear, is there any way we can save this little bear? The way it was eating at just now, it must have been without food for a long ti! If we don’t do sothing, when it gets cold, it’ll freeze to death in the winter!”
If it were a matter of spending so money or calling in a few favors, Yue Feng would definitely not refuse as long as Baby Bear asked, but adopting a bear cub in a foreign land, Yue Feng felt utterly clueless; the situation was beyond his capability.
Yue Feng turned to Victor, “Uncle Victor, does Russia have any institutions that adopt and rescue bear cubs like this? We’re willing to pay for its rescue!”
Victor replied, “In Moscow, there really are wildlife conservation organizations that rescue brown bears, but it’s too far from here! We don’t have the specialized tools for capturing and transporting, which is very troubleso!
Although brown bears are protected animals, they are actually quite common in Russia. Every year, many cubs lose their mothers. According to statistics from a couple of years ago, just on the Kamchatka Peninsula, there were at least 60,000 brown bears, not to ntion the newly born in recent years!”
“Even so, we can’t just ignore it when we co across one, Uncle Victor. Please help us, we can pay for the rescue of this cub!” Baby Bear continued to plead.
At this point, Uncle Victor hesitated!
In reality, the governnt oversight was very lax at the campsites they’d constructed in the wilderness. Even if soone were to keep a bear, they’d only need to file a report at the nearest governnt agency. It wasn’t too difficult!
Brown bears have a very varied diet and aren’t picky eaters—plant seeds, fruits, processed fish, leftovers from hunted animals—almost all organic waste from the camp could be their food! The only issue is that they eat a lot once they’re adult.
Yue Feng chid in, “I think we have enough space in our camp, and if this little guy is gentle, why not raise him here and release him back into the wild when he’s grown? I’ll cover his food expenses! And think about it, having a dosticated brown bear at the camp would greatly enhance the visitor experience for guests who co later!”
Victor was not swayed by the ntion of food expenses, but Yue Feng’s final suggestion did appeal to him.
Indeed, guests coming from China didn’t have the opportunity to interact closely with bears outside of zoos. If the camp could raise a gentle bear without aggressive tendencies, it could significantly boost their operations! It’s worth noting that Russia has celebrity brown bears; a dosticated bear photographed with visitors earned an unimaginable amount of money each year.
“Since you put it that way, let’s give it a try! We don’t have the professional tools, though I’m not sure if we can bring it back safely!” Uncle Victor finally nodded, agreeing to the plan.
Yue Feng looked around and soon found a slip knot in the equipnt box on the boat by the shore.
The thing was black, about as thick as the refill of a ball-point pen, and though it was not as strong as parachute cord, it should be enough to tie up a skinny little bear cub.
“Can we use this?” Yue Feng asked.
“Sure!” Uncle Victor glanced at it and nodded.
Quickly, Victor used the slip knot to create a foot snare; he bent a small tree, cut a few branches to make a trigger chanism, then covered the snare with so leaves and placed a piece of fish inside the loop.
The cub, lacking the wisdom of a full-grown brown bear and overwheld by its craving for food, dared to approach the snare to eat the fish. In less than ten minutes, one of its front paws was caught, and it let out a panicked howl.
