Chapter 575: Chapter 292: Machine Core Tunnel
"Xiaomo?" Farina responded.
Her voice made Li Ang certain that the visitor was indeed their long-lost friend Duncan Morales, even though he had already opened his Magic Perception, employing a truly useful identification thod.
"Let’s move first, discuss later." Morales said.
Li Ang felt a Shadow Curtain enveloping him, which was Xiaomo’s Shadow Manipulation ability, and far stronger than before. It felt like being shrouded with a veil, looking at the original world through a layer of haze.
The group left the restaurant, with Xiaomo’s indistinct figure leading the way from the front. Only the heat-dispersing back and brown tail of his Beast-Earkin form were visible, as he moved within the shadows cast by buildings, ethereal as though he wasn’t truly there, like a phantom in blurred vision.
With such skills, the Empire would find it exceedingly difficult to capture him.
He led Li Ang and the others through the tallic structures of houses and alley corners of the City of the Ship’s Rudder, turning a handle at a place resembling a pipeline valve. A secret door swiftly opened in the chanical wall, gesturing for the others to follow as he entered first.
The tunnel’s construction resembled a ventilation duct; Xiaomo carried a lantern to guide the way. After walking a bit more, a steep staircase erged leading downward, descending several dozen steps to a tallic platform.
Despite the darkness surrounding them, the wind blowing up told the group that the area was an expansive space.
From the way they descended previously, it was apparent that they were inside the island body of the City of the Ship’s Rudder.
"What is this place?"
The young girls scrutinized the surroundings; Dorothy released the Divine Demon-Born Flower, its radiant Flower Vine climbing up in an attempt to illuminate the space.
"This is a corridor from the pre-civilization construction." Xiaomo halted, turned back and said.
"Pre-civilization corridor?" Zoe imdiately focused into the darkness, seemingly intrigued by the potential fascinating elents here.
"Wow, I really stumbled upon sothing incredible by accident." Reed remarked.
"You’re still here?" Dorothy said.
"Oh, it pains my heart to hear this from this Lady; I was hoping to collaborate with the Platinum Ace." Reed replied.
Li Ang stepped into the lantern’s light held by Xiaomo, the glow illuminating him and those around. Now everyone could clearly see his appearance.
Compared to the previously carefree teenager, he seed much more composed now. His long brown hair was no longer as long, making his Beast-Earkin ears less droopy, appearing more spirited.
He wasn’t wearing casual clothes but a high-standard Thief Outfit, with his favored dagger sheathed on his leg.
With a smile on his face, he high-fived Li Ang.
"Yo, our busy man finally shows up."
"I—"
"No need to guess, I already know. You wanted to push the group to the forefront with all your heart previously, and since you’re here now, Rams must have kicked you to the curb."
"Alright, seems like you’ve got
all figured out."
Although teased, Li Ang felt much more relaxed. As Farina had previously said, for a certain period he was only focused on raising the team’s ranking. Admittedly, luna also took up much of his ti.
When various matters occupied his attention, he hadn’t reunited with his old friends. While Viel received an occasional visit, he rarely t Farina by chance in the Holy City, Xiaomo had not been seen at all.
Nevertheless, for the straightforward guy in front of him, friends were friends; saying "long ti no see" might be seen as pretentious by both parties; anyway, things were more relaxed now.
Xiaomo peeked at the young girls behind Li Ang, whistled, and nudged him: "Perhaps being ditched by Rams wasn’t such a bad thing? Never saw you looking for girls before, was worried about you, brother."
Spreading his hands to the girls, he greeted: "Hey there, young ladies, first eting. I’m Duncan Morales. Li Ang and sister Farina call
Xiaomo, but you can call —"
"Hi Xiaomo." Zoe directly said.
"Hey," Dorothy quickly nudged the carefree Wild Cat without regard for the concept of respect, "Xiaomo is what Li Ang calls him. He’s probably ten years your senior."
Other than Zoe, there was hardly any movent among the rest, only Dorothy showing concern about saying sothing wrong.
"No worries, no worries," Xiaomo laughed, "what I least want to admit is I’m nearly a middle-aged man."
He patted Li Ang on the back: "What’s going on with you? Why so many girls with you? Which one’s your girlfriend? Are the others her friends? Or are you moonlighting as a tour guide after being kicked out?"
"I am." "I am." "I am."
Voices confirming without hesitation ca from more than one person, leaving Xiaomo’s smile frozen on his face.
The problem was these girls. Li Ang covered his face.
"Is this an echo? No, impossible, I’ve walked this Machine Core Tunnel many tis, wouldn’t have such echo, I can’t believe it, you rascal—"
Gripping Li Ang’s shoulder with force, even as his face wore a smile, intentions of harm seed to seep through.
"I... alright, this is just how it is."
Li Ang solemnly introduced: "This is Zoe, Dorothy, ALulu, Andasu, mbers of the Sky Cavalry I founded; here’s ii, temporarily with us."
Aware that he wasn’t being seen as human anymore, thus fearing none, and though there’s no proper explanation, acting like nothing happened seed best.
