Chapter 246: Let’s Play A Ga

We were shocked into silence; none of us knew what to say after Wei Xiao Li’s statent.

My n ran in silence, keeping up with the grueling pace that Wei Xiao Li had set. But it didn’t seem to be fast enough.

"Boss!" grunted one of the n, sprinting up to Wei Xiao Li. "There is a small horde of zombies behind us. Maybe 100 to 150 of them."

My eyebrows raised as I thought about it. One hundred and fifty zombies didn’t seem like that small of a horde. In fact, it looked like sothing that could easily take out the 30 humans we had on our side.

Unless I stepped in.

I could easily take out that number without breaking a sweat, but how did I do it without calling attention to myself or making it obvious what was going on?

My n looked at

for a mont, and Bin An Sha shook his head.

"We need to pick up our speed," grunted Wei Xiao Li. "We are almost at the house. It will be easier to defend from there. Here we are sitting ducks."

His underling nodded his head before taking off at an even faster pace.

"Why aren’t you bothering to fight?" asked Bai Long Qiang, briefly looking over his shoulder.

"Because fighting is pointless without a way to burn them, and we don’t have that right now," grunted Wei Xiao Li, clearly pissed about being questioned by an outsider. I couldn’t bla him at all. We were new to his city, and ours was pretty much oblivious to everything that was going on.

We lacked the practical experience that he had, but, on the flip side, we didn’t need fire to kill them. Just .

Closing my eyes, I buried my face into Rip’s neck. Following the lines of power, I used his connection to the ground to see what was going on.

At first, I didn’t think I had a chance. We were surrounded by concrete, tal, and glass, and as I had discovered before, all of that managed to negate my powers.

However, under this concrete jungle was a massive root system. I couldn’t see any trees or grasses around us, but that didn’t an that they weren’t there, hovering just under the surface.

Slipping into that living highway, I ignored the 30-so-odd life forces around

and concentrated on the brighter lives just on the outskirts.

"Three hundred," I whispered into Rip’s ear. There were 300 zombies trailing around after us. Not hunting us, like what the scout had implied, but just there.

"Could they be herding us?" I asked, unsure of what else could account for their actions. "Or are they trying to gather intel?"

"That is a lot of zombies for just a little recon," grunted Rip as he turned around to look at the guys behind us. "Three hundred, following, not coming any closer."

My n nodded while Wei Xiao Li and his looked confused.

"What?" he asked, looking around. I would have to say that I was really impressed that he could carry on a conversation while running for such a long ti.

"There are 100 zombies, but they aren’t chasing us," grunted Fan Teng Fei, explaining what was going on. After all, if anyone were an expert in these zombies, it would be the one currently living in the city.

"Impossible. They always give chase," answered Wei Xiao Li with a shake of his head.

"And if they don’t?" pushed Cheng Bo Jing. He looked at , and I shook my head. The energy force that I associated with zombies hadn’t changed. They were still maintaining the sa distance.

"You don’t understand. They always give chase," growled one of Wei Xiao Li’s subordinates.

"Or do they realize that there isn’t enough food to go around, and they are waiting for you to lead them to even more prey?" mused Ye Yao Zu, looking over his shoulder to try and spot them.

"Let’s play a ga, shall we?" smirked Si Dong, coming to a complete stop. The guys followed suit until only Wei Xiao Li and his n were still running.

"Are you fucking crazy?!? Do you want to get eaten? They are going to be on you in a matter of seconds," shouted the man, but nothing happened.

The zombies had stopped, too.

I watched as they hovered out of the corners of my eyes, never really coming into focus.

Did they know what I was? Was that why they were hanging back?

"Holy fuck," grunted Wei Xiao Li, coming to a dead stop and then returning to where my guys stood. "You’re right."

Rolling my eyes, I ignored him. I was right more often than not, lately, and yet no one had even taken that into consideration besides my n.

"What do you want to do?" I asked, looking at Bai Long Qiang. He knew exactly what I was asking and slowly shook his head.

"I don’t know," he murmured as if he was really trying to think instead of telling

not to use my powers.

"We are going to have to fight," sighed Wei Xiao Li. "We can’t bring them back to the others and risk them. It is better that the 20 of us die than the hundreds back ho."

"And just where is your leader in all of this?" asked Bin An Sha, starting to twirl his knife in frustration. "I haven’t seen him since the mall. What was his na again?"

"Wan Ying," grunted Wei Xiao Li. He let out a long sigh and looked at the n circled around us, their guns out and ready. "And, knowing him, has probably made it back to the house by now with his n."

"So leader he is," snorted Si Dong, turning his back to us so that he could look out for zombies. I wanted to tell him that he didn’t need to bother, but I couldn’t let the others know what I was capable of.

"Maybe we should be taking this ti to escape?" reminded Fan Teng Fei, his hands in his pockets like he was suggesting we all went out for dinner. "After all, I am pretty sure that we are supposed to be their prisoners."

I didn’t notice until that exact mont when the ants bit down, and fire scread up my arms that the bad feeling I had been having had left while we were running for our lives.
