The old Mr. Price was yelling on the phone.
Mrs. Kane was startled: "Dad, you must be joking, right? How could Leon force Jackie to death? There must be so misunderstanding."
The old Mr. Price erupted: "Who’s joking with you? You’re always so protective. Let tell you, I won’t let Leon Keane off the hook for this. Jackie is the only bloodline of the Price family, and if he wants to force Jackie to death, it’s like forcing to death."
Mrs. Kane didn’t like what the old Mr. Price said, not letting Leon off the hook? What right did her father have to hold Leon accountable? Preston’s job was provided by the Kane family, and Lucas’s job was also provided by the Kane family.
To be blunt, what does the Kane family owe the Price family?
Mrs. Kane was angry, yet she dared not confront the old Mr. Price directly.
"Dad, don’t talk like that. Let’s get the facts straight first. How about I call Preston to find out what’s going on?"
"I’ve already figured it out, Preston won’t take your call either..."
Before the old Mr. Price could finish, Mrs. Kane hung up the phone.
The old Mr. Price was so furious that he nearly smashed the phone on the ground. He dialed Mrs. Kane’s number again, shouting angrily: "You co over and pick up at No. 2’s house right now."
Mrs. Kane’s ears were stung by the voice over the phone, and she frowned. Now he wanted her to go to No. 2’s house to pick him up? Was that possible? If she went, what if Leon ca?
Mrs. Kane feared Leon would discover she hadn’t had the surgery.
"Dad! I can’t go to No. 2’s house now! I’m not well. I just had surgery and am in the hospital! Have No. 2 take you to the hospital instead."
The old Mr. Price swallowed the words he almost cursed out.
Why did you choose now to have surgery? Of all tis?
Though the old Mr. Price had a bad temper, he knew not to overly offend Mrs. Kane. This daughter was born well; when she was born, the old Mr. Pierce was still alive, the Price family was wealthy, and at that ti, the Kane family was no match for the Pierce family. Since the two families’ old n had a great relationship, they didn’t seal the children’s marriage but arranged a grandchild betrothal.
Later the old Mr. Pierce passed away, and the two irresponsible brothers of the Price family squandered most of the family fortune. With the poor managent by the old Mr. Price, the wealth left by the old Mr. Pierce was soon gone.
anwhile, the Kane family grew stronger with each generation, and Leon Keane’s generation beca even more remarkable, rising to be a dominant force in Ravenswood.
Anyway, Mrs. Kane’s ability to marry into the Kane family was shielded by the old Mr. Pierce’s legacy. Without the Price family, there wouldn’t be her glamorous life today in the Kane family. She should be grateful to her ancestors and strive to support the only successor of the Price family.
"If you can’t co over, then have Leon co."
"Well...Leon has a big corporation to run. He’s very busy, and he might be in a eting at this ti. How about this? I’ll have my driver take you to Jackie’s hospital."
The old Mr. Price was displeased, muttering a bunch of nonsense. Mrs. Kane let it go in one ear and out the other without agreeing to the old Mr. Price’s requests. Leon was her son, the apple of her eye, how could she send Leon over to be scolded by the old Mr. Price?
The call was ended.
Mrs. Kane called Preston Pierce.
By this ti, Preston was already in the hospital. Seeing that Lucas Pierce was perfectly fine, he felt relieved. His phone suddenly rang, seeing that it was Mrs. Kane calling, his fingers trembled slightly.
He answered the call.
"Fourth Sister."
"What on earth happened? How did Jackie end up in the hospital?"
Mrs. Kane didn’t ask Preston about how Leon forced Lucas Pierce because in her heart, she always protected her own son.
Preston looked at Lucas; had Lucas been a bit injured, he could’ve stood tall and criticized Leon. But Lucas was fine!
Preston pondered how to explain?
Lucas, sitting upright on the hospital bed, gave Preston a wink, speaking softly: "Chi-wix, funds, three hundred million..."
Lucas had complained to Preston plenty about the Chi-wix situation.
Preston quickly caught on to Lucas’s aning and said, "Ah! It’s like this, Chi-wix hasn’t been doing well this year. Jackie has been worrying himself constantly trying to revive it, but financing is a major hurdle. So Jackie thought about getting so funds from President Kane, but unexpectedly... President Kane refused and said sothing that upset Jackie. Jackie then fell from the tree."
Preston, who worked in Leon Keane’s business, was accustod to referring to him as President Kane in public and before Mrs. Kane.
"Fell from a tree? Jackie is grown, and he’s climbing trees?" Mrs. Kane sarcastically quipped, then continued, "Was Jackie injured from the fall?"
This put Preston in a spot: "It’s... it’s fine, Jackie was lucky, not seriously injured."
"It’s good that it’s not serious. Send the address of Jackie’s hospital."
"Fourth Sister, you’re so busy, no need to visit Jackie..."
"I’m not busy but can’t visit Jackie. I’m still lying in the hospital myself! It’s Dad causing a fuss to co, from No. 2’s house all the way to ."
"It’s Dad! Alright... Fourth Sister, why are you hospitalized? Your health..."
After asking about Mrs. Kane’s health, Preston hung up and noticed Lucas looking displeased.
"Why’d you agree with Aunt to let Grandpa co here? Grandpa’s old, nagging to death, you let him co here, will it let live?"
The old Mr. Price treasured Lucas like a precious grandson, yet Lucas loathed the old Mr. Price dearly.
"What choice did I have? Should I tell your aunt that Jackie doesn’t welco Grandpa, that he finds Grandpa too naggy?"
"..."
"Your grandpa coming isn’t necessarily a bad thing. He spoils you, just cry to him, let him ask your aunt for that three hundred million, otherwise your fall won’t be in vain right?"
Lucas’s eyes twirled with excitent, and he grinned: "Dad, you’re so smart. Why hadn’t I thought of that before? Grandpa asking Aunt for three hundred million, Aunt wouldn’t dare not comply, then Aunt would help ask Leon for money."
"Haha... The Chi-wix crisis is finally resolved."
Preston also smiled, the father and son grinning cunningly and slyly.
About two hours later.
Mrs. Kane’s phone rang again, seeing another call from the old Mr. Price, Mrs. Kane had a throbbing headache. She didn’t answer, pretending not to hear.
The phone finally stopped ringing.
Monts later, a ssage popped up.
Mrs. Kane rubbed her aching temples and opened the ssage.
"Jackie’s company is now short of three hundred million, I’m giving you three days to transfer these funds to the Chi-wix account."
Three hundred million?
Where was she going to find three hundred million? Not in three days, even in thirty days, she couldn’t co up with three hundred million, it wasn’t like it was thirty million, Mrs. Kane was on the brink of madness.
Mrs. Kane didn’t reply to the ssage.
By evening, the old Mr. Price called again.
Mrs. Kane was utterly frustrated, thinking she should clarify things.
