Evaline:

The mont that strange, unsettling feeling crept through , my entire body reacted before my mind could catch up.

I jerked my hand out of Kyros’ grip.

The movent was sudden, sharp enough to make everyone in the room go still.

For a second, no one spoke.

And Kyros... he just stared at , his brows pulling together in confusion. "Eva...?" he asked slowly, his voice unsure.

I didn’t answer.

I couldn’t.

Because I finally rembered that feeling... that horrible, familiar feeling.

My heart started pounding so loudly it echoed in my ears, drowning out everything else. My breath turned shallow, uneven, as panic surged through like a tidal wave.

No.

No, this wasn’t-

This couldn’t be-

I had felt this before. I had sensed it before.

I knew this.

It was the sa cold, creeping sensation that I sensed on Draven back then. The sa energy I felt in the other soul death patients. The sa darkness I felt in the secret chamber.

It was sa.

"Eva?" Oscar said sharply this ti, stepping closer. "What’s wrong?"

But I barely registered his voice. My gaze was locked on Kyros. And my mind was racing, piecing together sothing I didn’t want to understand.

As my panic surged, the mate bonds I shared with my mates surged instinctively, sending a wave of alarm to all three of them at once. I felt their confusion spike in response, felt their attention snap fully onto ... but it wasn’t fast enough.

Because I was already moving.

I crawled forward, closing the distance between and Kyros in seconds before grabbing onto his arms.

"Eva, what are you-" he started, startled by the sudden movent.

I didn’t answer him. I didn’t have ti to answer him. Instead, I let my power surge. The warm, golden energy flowed out of and into him without restraint, without hesitation.

For a split second, Kyros stiffened under my hold, clearly confused by what I was doing. His eyes searched my face, trying to understand, but I couldn’t look at him.

I was too focused.

Too desperate.

Please...

Please let be wrong.

I didn’t even get the chance to finish that thought. Because within seconds, my power recoiled in that familiar way... like it had burned itself... and confird my worst nightmare.

My breath hitched sharply as my vision blurred for a mont.

No.

No, no, no-

There it was.

That darkness.

That sa suffocating, twisted energy I knew belonged to that one ancient entity. And it was strong.

It coiled inside Kyros like sothing alive, sothing waiting...

Sothing wrong.

My hands trembled against his arms as I tried to breathe, but it felt impossible. My chest tightened painfully, each inhale coming out more like a gasp.

"Evaline!" Kieran’s voice cut through sharply. "What’s happening?"

I couldn’t answer him. I couldn’t answer anyone. Because the truth was already crashing down on . And I didn’t know how to say it out loud.

Kyros was the first to react to my state. He grabbed my shoulders, steadying as I swayed slightly.

"Eva, hey-what’s wrong?" he asked, his voice filled with concern now.

The mont his hands touched , my power recoiled again. Harder. Like it was rejecting him. Like it was warning .

A shudder ran through , but I didn’t pull away this ti.

I couldn’t.

Because I needed to be sure. I needed to see it.

Before anyone could stop , I grabbed onto his jacket and shoved it off his shoulder.

"Eva-" Rowan started, clearly alard.

But I didn’t stop.

My fingers hooked into the collar of his t-shirt, yanking it down just enough to expose his chest.

Kyros froze completely, too shocked to react.

"What are you doing?" Oscar asked, his voice tense now. But I knew he was catching up. I could hear it in his voice.

And as all eyes fell on Kyros’ now exposed chest... everyone and everything stilled.

No one moved. No one spoke. They all stared at it... the familiar dark veins.

Thin.

Black.

Spreading beneath Kyros’s skin like poison slowly taking root.

Exactly like...

My breath broke. The room felt like it tilted, and for a mont, I couldn’t move. Couldn’t think. Couldn’t even blink.

Sensing it with my power had been one thing. But this... seeing these veins with my very own eyes... this made it real.

This made it undeniable.

Kyros was infected. Sohow, that Great Evil... it had reached him.

"How..." Rowan whispered, his voice barely audible.

But no one answered.

This wasn’t supposed to happen. Not tonight. Not after everything we had done just to make sure there wouldn’t be any more victims.

The Great Evil had been poisoned and sealed away in the secret chamber. It’s trapped beneath the west tower once again.

It wasn’t supposed to-

It wasn’t supposed to find another victim.

And yet...

It had.

My hands slowly loosened their grip on Kyros’ t-shirt, my fingers trembling uncontrollably now.

My gaze lifted to his face, and I found him staring at in confusion. He was completely oblivious to what had happened to him, and what was going to-

And that... that broke completely. The back of my eyes burned as tears filled my eyes, alarming him even more as he had no idea what was going on.

"Eva..." he said softly, searching my eyes. "What’s going on?"

My lips parted, but no words ca out.

Because how was I supposed to tell him?

How was I supposed to say it?

That he was next.

That he was going to end up like Draven.

Like Naira.

Like Carson.

Like all the others.

My vision blurred as tears burned at the edges of my eyes.

I shook my head slightly, as if denying it would sohow change the truth.

"It can’t be..." I whispered.

But it was.

It was.

A broken breath escaped as I looked at him again, really looked at him... trying to find so sign that this wasn’t real. That this was a mistake.

But the veins were still there, now peeking from under his t-shirt.

The truth remained.

My voice cracked as I finally forced the question out.

"...How did this happen?"
