An Jin pinched the few extra pounds of fat that had clearly appeared on her body, alarm bells blaring in her mind. "No, this can’t go on. I’m going to get so exercise every day!"
Mi Yin, on the other hand, didn’t mind at all. He thought she looked even better now. She had been a little too thin before, feeling almost weightless when he held her. Now, she felt much nicer to hold.
"That’s fine with . If you go, just make sure I’m with you," Mi Yin said.
An Jin nodded and snuggled into his arms with a yawn. ’I just woke up, I absolutely can’t fall asleep again,’ she thought, but her eyelids still drooped irresistibly.
Mi Yin smiled, gently wrapped an arm around her waist, and used his free hand to block the light from the window. His thin lips brushed against her ear as he murmured, "If you’re really sleepy, just take a nap. I’ll wake you up when it’s ti to eat."
’I’ll wake you when it’s ti to eat.’
’Eat until you’re full, then sleep. Wake up, and eat so more.’ Was Mi Yin really planning on raising her like a prize pig?!
An Jin was speechless for a mont, but she couldn’t fight the exhaustion in her body. In the end, she fell fast asleep in his arms again.
Mi Yin held her without moving for hours, not daring to disturb her. The slight swish of his tail revealed just how much he was enjoying this tender mont with his mate.
However—his gaze lingered on her face, a hint of confusion creeping in.
’Jin’er really has been sleeping a lot lately.’
...
Every ti the deep cold season arrived, steaming hot and fragrant roasted sweet potatoes beca incredibly popular among the Beastn, and An Jin was no exception.
Ling Hong had even bought a special oven for the house for this very reason. The sweet potatoes in the storehouse would beco sweeter after aging for a while, and An Jin was particularly fond of them.
But this cold season was a bit different—An Jin had beco unusually picky about her food.
For example, yesterday she loved roasted sweet potatoes, but today she only wanted to eat at. Tomorrow she might only want to eat green vegetables, and the day after that, who knew if she’d prefer sweet or sour flavors?
Ling Hong was run ragged by her whims, but he secretly enjoyed it. He spent most of his ti with an apron on, tinkering in the kitchen and inventing a host of new dishes.
...
As the old saying goes, "It’s not cold when it snows, but when it lts." However, that didn’t really apply in the Beast World.
In the Beast World, where temperatures already dropped to more than ten degrees below zero while it was snowing, it only got colder when the snow began to lt.
The extre low temperature made one’s teeth chatter and body tremble and stiffen. Even wearing several thick layers of animal hide could hardly ward off the severe cold.
Having been cooped up inside for so ti, An Jin leaned by the window and saw that the snow outside had mostly lted and the temperature had ward up quite a bit. She wanted to go out for a walk and stretch her limbs.
Although the sun was out, the air was still cold. Ling Hong rummaged through a chest and pulled out several matching sets of plush beast-hide coats. He piled them all on her, wrapping her in so many layers she looked like a giant, overstuffed dumpling.
In terms of keeping warm, no amount of thick clothing could compare to a truly heavy, plush beast-hide coat.
Moreover, these hides were from several old brown bears Ling Hong had hunted for her right before winter, after they had grown their thick winter coats. The fur was more than ten centiters thick, completely impenetrable to the cold air.
An Jin, who was so bundled up that only her eyes, nose, and mouth were visible, was speechless. ’There’s a special kind of cold, and it’s called ’your mate thinks you’re cold’.’
After the snowlt, the mountain forest was damp. A white mist, heavy with moisture, filled the air. The dark soil was riddled with puddles, and a single step could land you in a well-hidden one, soaking your entire pant leg.
Bright green, clean shoots sprouted from the thirsty earth.
Even the bare, brown tree trunks were beginning to show hints of green. The vibrant, post-snow spring scenery was filled with a sense of pent-up life, ready to burst forth.
An Jin gazed all around, a sigh of contentnt escaping her lips as a puff of white mist. The raw, natural beauty of the jungle was always a visual feast.
"If you’re cold, we can go back," Ling Hong said, turning his head. His gaze fell on her flushed face and the red tip of her nose.
An Jin shook her head. "I’m okay, it’s bearable." She rubbed her reddening fingers and said, her enthusiasm starting to wane, "Let’s wander a bit longer. We might find so edible wild vegetables or fruits."
Ling Hong naturally deferred to her wishes. Mi Yin didn’t mind, though the low temperature made him feel drowsy. He followed along lazily, his eyes half-closed the entire ti.
Suddenly, he snapped his eyes open, his gaze darkening. Before anyone could react, he launched himself into the jungle.
Imdiately after, several cries of pain rang out.
A black-and-red snake tail flashed past, sending five or six secretly-following Beastn flying. His bright red, forked tongue flickered as he uttered a cold, dangerous question: "Looking to die?"
’If Jin’er weren’t nearby, and if she didn’t hate seeing bloodshed, I would’ve sent these Beastn to et their so-called Beast God that very instant.’
Seeing a Wandering Beast, these Beastn were scared silly. The Snake Beast before them didn’t even have a single beast marking, so why did his aura make their very souls tremble in fear?
These were ordinary Beastn from nearby tribes, mostly Third and Fourth Rank, along with a more powerful Fifth Rank Bear Beast.
The ferocious-looking Bear Beast was the most revered and powerful warrior in his tribe. He couldn’t believe he’d been ambushed by a Snake Beast. ’Yes! It was an ambush!’ he told himself. ’The only reason I got hit is that this Snake Beast shot out of the woods without warning.’
’I was completely focused on the female’s lingering scent in the air and didn’t have ti to react. That’s the only reason his ambush worked.’
"I’d advise you to mind your own business. If I lose that female’s trail, I swear I’ll lead my tribe’s warriors to hunt you down and slaughter you, you wretched Wandering Beast!"
Mi Yin stared at him coldly. His long, slender snake body raised his upper torso five or six ters into the air, allowing him to gaze down imperiously at the trembling Beastn.
His bright red, forked tongue flickered as he spoke, his words like ice:
"...Female?"
The arrogant Bear Beast was sent flying dozens of ters. A loud CRASH echoed from the distance, followed by complete silence.
He was most likely dead.
"Ah! Y-you... you killed Li!" The faces of the four remaining Beastn drained of all color. They never imagined this Snake Beast with no markings could be so powerful.
Ling Hong pushed through the undergrowth and hurried over, cradling An Jin in his arms. Her entire form was still hidden by the thick beast-hide coats.
He frowned deeply and asked in a cold voice, "What’s going on here?"
"These damn Beastn were lusting after Jin’er." Mi Yin was overco with the urge to slaughter these fools who didn’t know their place. But out of consideration for An Jin, he had restrained himself from landing a fatal blow.
"I sensed them earlier too. I thought they were just Beastn from a nearby tribe out on a spring hunt. I never thought they’d have such intentions."
Ling Hong let out a cold laugh, pulling her even tighter with one arm. His other hand transford into a beast’s sharp claws. "In that case, there’s no need to show any rcy."
"Please don’t kill us, we were just drawn by the scent..."
"Scent?" Mi Yin and Ling Hong exchanged a look, and both of them froze.
