Chapter 108

~Jade’s POV~

Ever since getting ho, I found it hard to concentrate on anything, not even when mum and I sat in the dining room for dinner.

Everything seed out of whack since I saw Drake again and he kissed .

As much as I should have been angry about it, I found myself imagining the kiss and understanding why Javelin was eager for more.

I sighed for the umpteenth ti, dropping my cutlery and just staring at my food like it was the problem.

Xavier, Xade and Xander weren’t ready for what was to co, especially now when they were all trying to fall in love with to break the curse.

The curse!

My eyes went wide in shock. This wasn’t good. I needed to understand the reason why everything was happening to , especially with a fourth bond.

And as much as I wanted to hide things, I knew now was the ti to open up to my mates.

The question now wasn’t reporting, but to which of them? I knew I had to tell them all, but who would handle the news quite well?

I opted out for Xavier and Javelin gave the green light as well. The last thing I needed was another distraction or fighting to draw unnecessary attention to .

I had my goal and as much as sabing my mates mattered, I didn’t want to lose myself in the process of things.

"Jade?"

I paused with my fingers midway between touching my phone on the table.

"Mum?"

"You’ve been staring into space since," my mother noted. "Is everything alright?"

I blinked before nodding slowly. "Yeah. Everything is fine."

I watched my mum carefully while smiling softly to ease her worry as I picked up my phone.

Seeing mum dig into her roasted chicken, I dialled Xavier’s number and placed the phone to my ear only to have it disconnect. I pulled my phone back to check what was wrong, only to see an incoming call from Xavier.

My lips pulled back in a smile, and I answered, ignoring the stares I got from my mum across the table. "Hello, I..."

"Jade?"

As soon as Xavier said my na, my smile widened. "Hey, I was just about to..."

"Co outside."

"What?"

"Co outside. I’ve got sothing for you."

For a second, I just stared at my phone like I had heard him wrong. "What?" I asked again, my voice rising slightly in confusion.

But the call had already gone quiet, the line still connected, yet Xavier said nothing more.

My heart picked up for reasons I couldn’t quite explain. Slowly, I lowered the phone from my ear, my thoughts already running ahead of .

Outside? Right now with mum here?

Part of felt guilty for not telling my mum yet, but I wanted things to myself before she started being intrusive.

"Mum..." I started, but she was already watching .

Her brows lifted slightly, and her sharp gaze locked on in that knowing way that always made feel like she could see straight through .

"Was that your mate?" she asked calmly.

I froze.

That question hit harder than I expected, and for a brief mont, I could only stare at her. Did she know? "You... you know?" I asked, my voice dropping.

She gave a small smile, nothing too wide, but enough to tell she had been observing far more than I thought.

"I may not know everything," she said gently, "but I’m not blind, Jade. You have..." she let out a small laugh. "My daughter’s been marked and I did not know."

Before I could respond, the sharp sound of the doorbell rang through the house.

Both of us turned toward the door instinctively. My heart jumped.

"That must be him," I said quickly, already pushing my chair back.

Mum didn’t stop , but I could feel her gaze following as I hurried out of the dining room, my grip tightening slightly around my phone.

By the ti I reached the door, my pulse was racing in anticipation. I didn’t know what I expected.

But it wasn’t this.

The mont I opened the door, I found myself staring at a deliveryman standing on the porch, a few neatly packed bags in his hands.

I blinked. "Oh," I said, the word slipping out before I could stop it.

"Delivery for Jade Snow," he said politely, already holding them out to . Still on the call, I slowly took the bags from him, my confusion growing. "You just need to sign here, please."

"Thank you," I murmured and did everything he asked before stepping back slightly and closing the door.

I lifted the phone back to my ear.

"Xavier...?" I swallowed, trying to mask my disappointnt. "Why aren’t you here?"

There was a brief pause on the other end before he finally responded.

"I’m sorry," he said, his voice calm as always, though there was a hint of sothing softer beneath it. "I had a few things to handle tonight."

I looked down at the bags in my hands, my fingers brushing lightly over the smooth material.

"So you sent a delivery instead."

"You have a date tomorrow," he replied simply. "I wanted you to have sothing nice."

The words settled quietly in my chest, warr than I expected. For a mont, I didn’t know what to say.

"Xavier, I—" But before I could finish, the call ended.

I stared at the screen for a second, then let out a small breath. Typical.

Shaking my head slightly, I turned and walked back into the dining room. Mum was still seated, her brows raised in silent question the mont she saw .

I gave her a small smile, lifting the bags slightly.

"So I was right?" she asked.

I shrugged lightly. "It was just a delivery guy."

Her expression didn’t change, but I could tell she wasn’t entirely convinced.

Still, she let it go. I didn’t give her the chance to press further.

"I’m going upstairs," I said quickly, already heading toward the stairs.

"Jade," she called after .

I paused halfway up, glancing back. "It’s from my date," I added before she could ask anything else.

A soft chuckle followed as I turned and continued up to my room, closing the door behind .

The mont I was alone, I leaned back against it for a second, exhaling slowly as everything caught up to at once.

Then my gaze dropped to the bags in my hands.

Carefully, I moved toward the bed and set them down, my curiosity building again.

"Xavier..." I murmured under my breath as a small smile ford despite everything. For soone who claid not to be trying... He was doing a lot.

Just then, my phone chid with a text ssage. I unlocked my phone to read it.

Xavier: Hope you love them. Looking forward to seeing you in them.
