Aurora’s POV

It was now ti for to show myself. Then I coughed, and now eyes turned to .

"Aurora... Aurora, how are you doing?" Darius said, his voice cracking as his hands touched my face.

I turned my face away from his hand.

"Who are you? Who am I?" I said.

And then Darius pinched the bridge of his nose.

"I am Darius. I told you she’d lost her mory. Damn it," Darius said, as Rebecca stood in front of .

"I think she’s pretending. Because I saw her clearly with Hazel back in New Orleans. She was very much normal. I don’t know what is suddenly wrong with her that she’s not rembering any of us."

"Where is you? Where am I?" I said, my eyes feeling confusion. "I need to go back ho. My mom and dad are waiting for ," I said.

And all of them just gazed at .

"Your mom and dad?" Then Darius turned to Rebecca. "Is her mom and dad still alive?"

"I’m not sure about that. She was living with the Parks in New Orleans. I doubt if her parents are still alive because she was the only witch there."

And then Darius turned back to .

"My parents? When last did you see them?"

"My mom and dad wanted to go out and get candy. And I never saw them again," I said, talking, feigning as clueless as I can feign.

And they gazed at each other.

"She really has lost her mory. Or she’s pretending. I know what I saw."

Then Darius stood up and banged his hand.

"I trust Aurora with everything. She’s not the type... I an, who would lie about losing their mory? What kind of stupid lie would that be? She’s not lying," Darius said.

And Rebecca shook her head.

"Hazel was protecting her. She was looking at with horror in her eyes. She knows what she’s doing."

Then Rebecca stood in front of and held my cheeks tight.

"Tell them. Tell them you’re lying."

"I don’t know you. I’m lying about what?" I said.

And then Darius just pushed her away from beside .

"Leave her. Leave her, and let her be now."

"No. You’re not understanding. She—this bitch—is lying!"

"Release her," Darius said to the demon next to .

And that one ca and then released the chain. My hands were free.

"My hands are hurting," I said.

And Darius imdiately held my hands.

"Which part?"

"Every part. Why am I being chained? Where is my parents? Who are you guys?" I said.

And then Darius told both of them, "Leave."

"Darius, Rebecca has to say sothing—"

"I said leave. I don’t want to see you now."

Then Rebecca hissed, and then she rushed out.

But then Darius turned to .

"I’m very sorry about that. I... I am your husband," he said. "But on the day of our wedding, sothing bad happened. That... made two of us no longer together. Which I’m very sad for. Genuinely very sad. But the thing is that I will never let you go again. You are now back into my ho, and I’ll never let you go out of my sight again."

"What are you saying? Who are you?" I said.

"I told you I am Darius."

"But how can I have a husband? I am seven years old. My mom said I can’t get married until I’m 18."

"Look at you. You are now more than 18. But you wiped off your old mory because of so damn wolf—his na is Leon. Trust , I know. I know you’re scared right now, but I’ll protect you from every evil eye out there. Protect you from that bitch, that damn idiot Leon, and everyone that’s going to pose a threat to you. I promise you."

Where am I? I said, and he giggled around.

"You are in the Demon’s High House."

"Really?" I said, and then he nodded.

"Yes. You are in the Demon’s House, led by Demon George. If I had gotten married, our daughter would have been the one to rule. Which I’m still going to do."

"You’re still getting married?"

"But I’ll wait for you to recover your mory. Because right now, you think you are a seven-year-old girl when you are very much matured," he said, and then I swallowed.

"Yes. Why did I lose my mory?"

"I’ve told you, it’s because of a wolf. His na is Leon, and you are going to be staying very clear of him. Understand?"

I nodded.

"Good girl," he said, touching my cheeks, and irritation filled my stomach. He annoys so much that I want to cut his hand off.

Then I coughed and imdiately stood up.

"Rebecca, get her water now," he said.

And the demon rushed in and poured water into a glass cup for . I collected the water and then shoved it right inside my mouth, and then I spat it in his face.

"Oh. I’m sorry."

Irritation flashed through his eyes as he cleaned it up.

"It’s fine. It’s fine."

"No, I’m sorry. My mother taught that I must always be in my best manners, and I have clearly puked on you."

"It’s not puked, but it’s fine," he said, as the demon next to him handed him a piece of clothing and he used it to wipe his head.

Then I drank more water, and I was about to spit it on his head again before he covered my mouth.

"Hey, hey, it’s enough. Calm down," he said, as he was barely holding it in.

And then an idea popped into my head. Yes. This is what I’m going to do. I’m going to make him hate with everything in him.

And then I started shivering.

"I’m cold. I need to be covered. If not, I will—"

"Okay, fine." He looked around. "Soone get a warm blanket."

"I don’t want to stay in this room. This room reminds of where those monsters usually live. I’m scared of the dark, husband," I said.

And he blinked. "Husband?"

"Yes, husband. You just said that and you used to be married. Aren’t you my husband?"

"We were not married, but we wanted to be—"

Then he suddenly cut himself off. "You know what... fine. I was your husband," he said.

And then I smiled.

"Okay, husband. You’re very good-looking too."

Oh. He blushed. He actually blushed.

"I know," he said as he tucked his hair behind his ear. "You’re very beautiful too."

His blush was so bright I thought his cheeks were about to catch fire. Honestly, for a demon king, he had the emotional stability of wet bread.

"You’re very beautiful too," he repeated, softer this ti—like he expected to swoon.

Instead, I blinked at him. "Oh. Okay."

That tiny "okay" shattered him. His smile twitched. His left eye twitched. His pride twitched and died.

"Just... okay?" he asked, clutching his chest dramatically.

"Yes. You look... okay," I said, shrugging.

His soul left his body for two full seconds.

Rebecca, who was eavesdropping from the doorfra like the professional hater she is, burst into laughter.

"She said you look okay," she repeated loudly, like she wanted the entire demon clan to hear.

Darius glared at her. "Shut up."

"No, YOU shut up," she said, rolling her eyes. "Your wife—oh wait—your DELUSIONAL wife doesn’t rember you, and even in fake mory-loss mode she’s still rejecting you."

I gasped. "You’re rude."

She gasped back. "You’re lying."

I tilted my head sweetly. "But I’m pretty."

She froze.

Darius almost choked.

Rebecca scowled. "You think being pretty solves everything?"

"Yes," I said imdiately.

Darius nodded. "Yes."

Rebecca groaned loudly. "I hate it here."

Then she stomped out, slamming the door so hard dust fell from the ceiling.

The mont she left, Darius dropped to one knee beside my bed like a knight auditioning for a bad romance novel.

"Aurora, I promise you—no matter what you rember, no matter what you feel, I will win your heart again."

I stared at him blankly. "Why?"

He paused. "Because you’re my wife."

"You said we didn’t get married."

"Well—spiritually—emotionally—hypothetically—"

"That’s not a thing," I said.

"It IS a thing," he insisted, offended. "In demon law, if two souls declare affection, the universe binds—"

I held up a hand. "I’m seven."

He shut up instantly.

A demon soldier entered silently, bowing. "My lord... the witches near the border are acting suspicious."

Darius sighed. "Tie them up."

I stood. "No! You can’t just tie people up!"

Darius blinked slowly. "Aurora... you are literally tied up five minutes ago."

"Exactly," I said. "I speak from experience. It hurts."

The soldier tried not to laugh.

Darius glared at him. "Leave. Now."

The demon ran out as if his life depended on it, which it probably did.

Then Darius turned back to , softening his voice like lted butter. "Aurora... I just want you to feel safe."

"I would feel safer," I said, "if you stopped breathing so close to my face."

He jerked back like I slapped him with holy water. "Sorry. My apologies."
