Ann Nolan finally surrendered.
She no longer clutched the slip of paper, her eyes filled with deep sorrow, her long lashes trembling with traces of heartbreak.
She let go, and Zachary Santos took the paper from her hands to inspect it closely.
The more he read, the deeper his brows furrowed.
Ann Nolan hugged her arms tight to her body, feeling ice-cold despite wearing a coat.
So cold, so very cold…
Her face was an abnormal shade of pale, like a sheet of paper, devoid of any color.
“Co on, let’s go to my car,” Zachary said, pulling her arm and leading her to the underground parking lot.
His Ferrari was parked below.
Ann got into the car, silent and still feeling cold from head to toe.
Especially around her heart, which felt no warmth at all.
“Does my brother know about this?” Zachary asked, pinching the paper, sitting next to her.
His eyebrows were tightly knitted.
Ann shook her head, her voice clear but dull, “We got divorced yesterday, he doesn’t know.”
“Divorced?” Zachary was clearly unaware, “When did you find out you were pregnant?”
“Also yesterday.”
“What were you thinking, you agreed to the divorce?”
“I was the one who proposed the divorce, of course, I agreed,” Ann said, her arms crossed, her eyes devoid of any sparkle, “It’s just that this child is too unexpected… I wasn’t prepared. I guess logic is telling that I need to abort it.”
Zachary was silent for a long while.
He knew Ann wanted a divorce.
He also knew Ann liked his brother.
“Can you bear it?” Zachary asked softly, his voice still carrying an elegant clarity.
At Zachary’s question, Ann’s eyes turned red, “He shouldn’t have been born.”
Zachary observed every expression of hers, his pupils reflecting only her image.
He was used to reading expressions, and Ann’s deanor did not escape his eyes.
He knew Ann couldn’t bear it.
Every woman should be delighted to learn they’re pregnant, not anxious and fearful like this.
“CEO Santos, this has nothing to do with you, promise you won’t tell your brother, okay? Promise …” Ann pleaded with him, her eyes filled with fearful unrest.
“I promise you.”
“Thank you, CEO Santos… May I make another request? I want to transfer to Golden Growth’s Old York branch, is that possible? I’ll go in a few days. I know I’m asking for too much, even overstepping…”
“Whatever you say I agree to,” Zachary said, looking into her eyes, his voice raised slightly, “But can you stop wronging yourself?”
Zachary had never yelled at her like this before.

Ann fell silent.
“Of course, you’re the mother, it’s up to you to keep it or not. If you want to abort it, I won’t stop you. Just think it through, because once the child is gone, it’s gone,” Zachary spoke very rationally.
