Chapter 21

~Spring’s POV~

My thumb hovered over the screen as the words blurred for a second, and a foreign ache uncurled in my chest.

With the whole situation gone wrong and matebond, I had forgotten it was my birthday briefly, even though that sheer fact is the reason I was thrown into this ss.

Or maybe I’d chosen to forget. It hadn’t felt like mine this year.

Behind , I could still feel their presence. I didn’t need to turn to know they were still watching, still parsing every breath I took like it might reveal my next move.

The phone buzzed again.

Mum: We’ll be there before sunset. We have gifts and your favourite cake—don’t even think about running off!

I bit my lip, my chest tightening.

"Everything okay?" Storm asked, though I sensed the softness in his tone, I knew he was curious like all the others.

I didn’t answer.

"Spring?" This ti it was Jace, his voice gentler than before. It lacked the usual cocky lilt. He was trying, in his own way.

They all were. And I hated that it only made it harder when Jade purred in response.

I turned slightly, not fully facing them but enough for them to hear .

"It’s my birthday," I said flatly, but not emotionless. "And my mom decided to co into town. With my dad. Great."

Kael blinked. "Wait. Today’s your birthday?"

"You say that like it’s a cri," I retorted.

"No. Just... unexpected," Kael muttered, scratching the back of his neck.

"What’s unexpected? She would have been mated to us since the first ti we spoke to her if it wasn’t, but it only happened today."

Kael shrugged at Jace. "Moonbite, you don’t exactly give off ’let’s throw a party’ vibes."

"Well, good," I replied. "Because I’m not in the mood for one."

Jace stepped closer. "Do they know? About the bonds, about us?"

"No," I said instantly and a bit too fast. "They don’t know. And they don’t need to. For all everyone knows, I am just a human and not a..."

My shoulders slumped at the realisation, and when I lifted my eyes up, I saw the look of shock on their faces.

Exactly.

Ignoring them, I continued, "This is already a ss. The last thing I need is them in the middle of it."

"Wait, wait, wait... Its rare for a human to be mated with a werwolf... and now not just one but five Alpha werewolves?" Kael questioned. ’How the fucjk is that possible?"

Spring inhaled as she took in all of their expressions. They were thinking it. There was no doubt about it.

"I... I don’t know. It’s not like I asked to be bonded to any of you. I just..."

"How does she know so much when she’s only been in the school for what... a month tops?" Jace questioned next.

"Well..."

Before I could finish, Lucien cut in. "Well, she goes to our school and..."

"No." Everyone turned in the direction of the voice. "That’s not it."

I blinked as Storm walked forward, then turned and stood in front of the heirs with his hands tucked inside his trousers pocket.

"That’s because she is a werewolf."

All four pairs of eyes went wide.

"What?"

I wanted to deny it, but I knew they’d figure it out after so ti.

Suddenly, a loud clap broke the silence as Kael walked closer to Storm. "If you are a werewolf.. Then the rumours that you are not the real daughter of the Kiane family is true. And if so... that proves Storm’s theory. You are a werewolf, and only a werewolf alpha female can be mated to us all."

Kael shrugged as though he hadn’t helped Storm reveal more than I wanted anyone to know. "Sorry, Moonbite, I believe only an alpha she-wolf is worthy of us."

I scoffed and looked away. "That proves nothing."

"But it does, doesn’t it?" Tyrion, who had been silent all this while, finally spoke up.

My brows creased. "Excuse ?"

"I did not think much about it, but I felt the aura imdiately I stepped into school. And just as you saw us, your eyes flashed red before reverting, Spring. You are not just any werewolf but an alpha she-wolf."

I took a step back. All of my secrets had been dusted in my face. As much as I wanted to deny it, I knew they were too smart not to see right through it.

Instead, I neither accepted nor rejected their words.

"About my parents and family... I do not want any of this getting out." she gestured with ehr hands and they nodded.

Lucien finally spoke, his voice low and rough. "Do you want us to stay away?"

I turned to him then. Fully. His eyes t mine—not defiant, not wounded, but open. He was asking, not demanding. That mattered.

"Yes," I said after a beat. "I need space. Just for today."

Tyrion nodded once, like he understood even before I finished the sentence. "You’ll have it."

"But if anything happens..." Storm began, and I cut him off.

"Othing will happen. Besides, I do not need Glorified Alphas to fight my battles for ."

"Spring,’ Storm began and I cut in again. "I’ll scream, set sothing on fire, or text. Whichever’s most efficient."

That earned a half-smile from Jace. "You’ll text before setting fire to anything, right?"

"No promises."

Kael whistled low. "Happy birthday, little Tyrant. Try not to burn down your house before cake."

"I’ll make sure the cake survives," I said dryly, turning back toward the door. "Thanks for the... chat."

No one stopped as I left this ti. No one chased. And that silence—it felt like a small, hard-won freedom. Like a breath of air I hadn’t realised I needed.

"No promises, Alphas. I do not have your numbers rember." My lips curled upward at the side as I walked away.

"Does that an we get to burn that witch, Madelyn?" Jade inquired.

"No. Not yet anyway. But she’ll get what’s coming for her next ti. I promise."
