Chen Ningxi looked at the contact on her phone, it was Manager Li Mu from the regional branch.

Cheng Qiaobei asked, "How’s your relationship with Manager Li?"

Chen Ningxi said, "I et him often during etings at the branch office. Outside of work, we haven’t had much contact."

Cheng Qiaobei understood, "He must be calling about Liu Yahui’s matter. Let take this call."

Chen Ningxi knew what he was worried about, "Don’t worry, even if his position is higher than mine, I can handle it."

Cheng Qiaobei insisted, "Trust , it’ll be easier for to talk to him."

Having a diator often increases the chances of successful negotiation.

Chen Ningxi handed him the phone, and Cheng Qiaobei put it on speaker.

"Hello, who is this?"

There was a two-second silence from the other end before the polite voice said, "...Hello, are you Manager Chen’s spouse?"

Cheng Qiaobei’s tone was distant, "Yes."

Li Mu introduced himself, "I’m Manager Li Mu from the branch office. We often et at etings when Manager Chen cos over; we have a good relationship. I wanted to talk to her about Liu Yahui’s matter."

A gleam flashed in Cheng Qiaobei’s eyes, and Chen Ningxi had a premonition that he was about to start performing.

As expected, the next second, he sighed, "Sigh... I didn’t expect my wife’s matter to alert the branch leadership. Thank you for your concern, Leader."

He didn’t ntion Liu Yahui at all.

Li Mu realized the other party wasn’t taking the bait and understood their attitude, realizing it wouldn’t be easy to negotiate and that he’d have to diate himself.

"Our branch’s leadership team is already aware of Manager Chen’s matter; everyone takes it seriously and is focused on it. I understand the impact on her reputation and stand up for her. Actually, we all know Manager Chen’s character; she wouldn’t do such a thing. No one took those words seriously. Liu Yahui is either absent-minded or foolish; who talks nonsense at work like that? It’s not good."

The buildup is for the inevitable ’but’ later on.

But Cheng Qiaobei didn’t give him the chance, "With the leadership’s words, I’m reassured."

He still didn’t ntion Liu Yahui by a word.

He continued, "My wife has suffered such injustice, not only is her reputation damaged, but she has also been greatly affected ntally. You interact with her often at work and understand her temperant; she’s soone who’d rather break than bend. To be suddenly labeled with morality issues, how could she bear it? It’s a huge insult to her character.

While at the police station she could still hold on, but back ho she locked herself in her room and wouldn’t co out. I’m worried she might not be able to think straight, so I stand guard at the door. Imagine if sothing were to happen to her, trying to prove herself... I can’t even think about it.

Sigh... After all, she’s a woman who’s been subjected to public pressure due to these so-called moral issues. She needs ti to calm down, and I hope the leadership understands."

"I do, very much so."

In just a few words, Li Mu felt the gravity of the situation. If she were to sink into depression or sothing were to happen, as the diator, he’d bear responsibility.

Li Mu didn’t want to cause trouble for himself, so he said, "Let Manager Chen rest well, and make sure she doesn’t think too much. If there’s anything, we’ll certainly stand by her, and other issues can be discussed. The leadership team is already researching further handling of Liu Yahui and Wang Qing, and we will certainly give Manager Chen and her family an explanation."

Cheng Qiaobei feigned a low, emotional tone, "Thank you, Manager Li, for your concern and for seeking justice for my wife."

Li Mu replied, "It’s my duty. I won’t disturb you any further, take good care of Manager Chen, and we’ll communicate in ti if there are any issues."

"Alright, goodbye, Manager Li."

One second, he was playing the role of a husband seeking justice for his wife; the next, his lips curled into a sly smile.

Chen Ningxi took back her phone, "Did you graduate from a drama school?"

Cheng Qiaobei chuckled, "I’ll take that as a complint."

Chen Ningxi said, "You make it up as you go. Locked in a room and thinking too much? Why not just say I’ve already collapsed?"

"Good idea," Cheng Qiaobei raised a brow and smiled, "I’ll say that next ti I get a call."

Chen Ningxi nudged him, "Stop fooling around."

"When it cos to handling Liu Yahui’s matter, don’t worry about whether our thods are dirty or not; achieving our goal is most important," Cheng Qiaobei pulled her into an embrace, wrapped his arms around her waist, and said, "Of all the people Liu Yahui’s family could have approached, they went straight to the company higher-ups. It’s clear they’re trying to use their position to crush us."

Chen Ningxi said, "Even if his level is higher than mine, so what? My attitude is what matters, and I won’t compromise my dignity."

Cheng Qiaobei kissed her on the lips, "That’s right. If I hadn’t scared him just now, he’d definitely be negotiating terms with us for reconciliation. And Wang Qing, since she’s the instigator, even if she doesn’t get locked up for a few days, she should at least have a mark on her record."

Eventually, Liu Yahui was administratively detained for six days, while Wang Qing avoided detention but was fined five hundred yuan.

When Liu Yahui was released, both of them would have to make a public apology at a company eting.

Ye Yujun only found out about the rumors about Chen Ningxi the next day and wanted to call Chen Ningxi imdiately, but was stopped by Chen Weichuan.

"Look, it’s still early; the kid might not be up yet. Call her later," Chen Weichuan urged her, "Have breakfast first."

Before heading out, Chen Weichuan reminded Ye Yujun, "The ones spreading the rumors have been taken care of. Just ask a bit about her, don’t get too worked up."

Ye Yujun glared at him, "Go to work already."

She shooed him away and then took out her phone to call Chen Ningxi. As the ringtone played, Ye Yujun mumbled to herself:

"My own daughter is suffering; how could I not worry?"

"Mom, calling this early for sothing?"

On the other end ca Chen Ningxi’s voice. Ye Yujun listened and found it calm, with no sign of anything being amiss, and asked with a smile, "Are you at work?"

"I just got to the office, what’s up, Mom?" Chen Ningxi asked.

"Is there nothing you want to tell Mom?" Ye Yujun probed.

Chen Ningxi stood up and shut her office door, "You heard about it?"

Ye Yujun said, "This is a big deal. If I didn’t call, you wouldn’t have told ."

Chen Ningxi laughed, "It’s not a big deal; it’s been resolved, hasn’t it? I can’t call over every little thing, or I wouldn’t grow up."

Ye Yujun said, "To , you’ll always be a child."

Chen Ningxi laughed, "Alright, I got it. I’ll tell you if anything cos up."

Ye Yujun advised, "Since the ones who needed punishing have been punished, and those who needed fining have been fined, consider the matter settled without a fight. People at work might gossip for a while, but just keep a calm heart. After so ti, it will blow over."

Chen Ningxi truly didn’t care much about these matters, "Got it, Mom."

They chatted for a bit more and then ended the call.

During lunch break, Cheng Qiaobei received a call from his mother-in-law, Ye Yujun.

"Cheng, I bought so fish. You and Ningxi co over for dinner tonight."

Cheng Qiaobei said, "Mom, how did you know I was craving fish?"

"Is that so? Then I made the right dish," Ye Yujun laughed.

This son-in-law of hers had a sweet tongue and knew how to charm, and she bragged about him endlessly in their circle of friends.

Judging by the events that had happened to Chen Ningxi, he could handle things well, stand up to issues, and was truly reliable.
