Xia Zhiqing stared at the water in the glass, feeling uneasy.
"This morning, when I went out, I ran into him in the lobby. He ignored , and his expression was quite cold, Zhuo," Xia Zhiqing turned around, her eyes full of concern. "I just feel uneasy and particularly anxious. How about we formally apologize to him today?"
"Apologize to him for what?" Zhuo Jun was dismissive.
Xia Zhiqing said worriedly, "According to President Liang, he knows that we did it privately. I heard them ntion a young model who was forced to quit the industry because of this kind of thing. No one knows where she is now. Will I end up like that?"
"You’re too tense." Zhuo Jun tapped her glass. "Have so water."
Xia Zhiqing chanically picked up the glass. The warm water slid down her throat, but it had no effect, and she still felt uneasy.
"How can you be the sa as her? That young model was on the fringes and didn’t have anyone covering her. You have President Liang. What are you afraid of?" Zhuo Jun took the glass from her hand. "You rest and recharge so you can talk more with the director and producer tonight."
Xia Zhiqing nodded and walked to the bed. "Zhuo."
She stopped him. Zhuo Jun stepped back to look at her. "Anything else?"
Xia Zhiqing asked, "Do you think Chairman Cheng is well-connected in the circle?"
Zhuo Jun chuckled slightly. "Him? He’s alright in the business circle, but the entertainnt industry..." He smirked and shook his head with a laugh. "No match for President Liang."
"Really." Xia Zhiqing breathed a sigh of relief and lay down.
At the sa ti, Cheng Qiaobei received the nu for the banquet from Wei Lai. After a detailed review, he adjusted two dishes and instructed her to execute the changes.
On the laptop screen, Cheng Qiaobei looked at the information sent by Jiang Wanyi and said, "Only these hotels?"
Jiang Wanyi replied, "There are two more that require my personal discussion. I’ll make ti to go over the weekend."
Cheng Qiaobei said, "Thanks for your hard work. If they don’t et our expectations, they aren’t a must. Explore other options."
Jiang Wanyi replied, "The budget is limited, and these two offer the best value for money."
Cheng Qiaobei nodded in understanding, "Alright, you decide. Shall we end today’s eting here?"
Jiang Wanyi noticed he was about to close the video. "Have you resolved the matter with the young star?"
Cheng Qiaobei was about to remove his headphones. "You still have ti for gossip? Your workload must be light."
Jiang Wanyi shrugged, "OK, OK, as long as it’s resolved. I was just concerned about any unhappiness between you and her because of these issues."
Cheng Qiaobei, relaxed, said, "My wife trusts a lot."
Jiang Wanyi looked at the man on the screen. He used to have an unsettling aura, but now he exuded a sense of calm. She couldn’t understand what changed about him, but now she realized it was the aura of a married man.
Cheng Qiaobei had that aura many won yearned for in a husband.
Jiang Wanyi said, "You found a good wife, so cherish her."
Cheng Qiaobei smiled, "Of course. Bye-bye."
He ended the video first. Jiang Wanyi retracted her gaze and began sorting through the piles of docunts on the table.
After this period of professional interaction, Jiang Wanyi felt more admiration for Cheng Qiaobei’s capabilities, while the person she once loved remained just a mory of the past.
Cheng Qiaobei was right. It’s better to move forward than to dwell on the past.
When Nuwa created humans, she placed most of the body’s organs at the front to encourage people to look and move forward.
For the current Jiang Wanyi, Cheng Qiaobei was rely her boss, a work partner.
After the video conference, Cheng Qiaobei stretched his shoulders and neck, feeling extrely tired.
He walked over to the sofa, sat down, and placed his legs on the footrest. He opened Chen Ningxi’s WeChat, waiting to connect to a video call.
The video call went unanswered for a long ti, so Cheng Qiaobei hung up and called Chen Ningxi directly.
The phone rang seven or eight tis before it was picked up. The background sound on the other end was a bit noisy.
"Wife..." Before he could continue, Chen Ningxi said, "Hold on, I’ll call you back later."
She hung up again.
Cheng Qiaobei held the phone, feeling puzzled.
More than ten minutes later, Chen Ningxi called back.
"Hey, I was handling the hospital admission procedures earlier. My grandma wasn’t feeling well and had to be hospitalized."
Cheng Qiaobei imdiately sat upright. "When did this happen?"
Chen Ningxi said, "About half an hour ago. My grandpa called my mom, saying grandma was dizzy and a little nauseous. She’s had vertigo before, so I quickly drove to her house to take her to the hospital."
Cheng Qiaobei got up to grab his car keys. "Which hospital?"
"Don’t co back. It’s too far, and going back and forth would be exhausting." Chen Ningxi said, "I need to hang up. I still need to go to the pharmacy to get her dicine."
"Which hospital?"
"The General Hospital."
After saying this, she hung up the phone.
Cheng Qiaobei checked his watch. The banquet was an hour away.
Ten minutes before the banquet, Cheng Qiaobei called Wei Lai over. "I need to leave in the middle of the event. Ning Xi’s grandma is in the hospital, and I have to go back."
Wei Lai replied, "Leave it to ."
The banquet started. Cheng Qiaobei first toasted the director and the artists from the show. Wei Lai poured water into his glass, and after briefly speaking, he excused himself and left.
As soon as he walked out of the banquet hall, another figure quickly followed him out.
In the quiet of the night, the parking lot was especially serene. Cheng Qiaobei placed his hand on the car door and then heard soone calling him from behind:
"Chairman Cheng."
Cheng Qiaobei stopped moving and turned to see Xia Zhiqing standing nearby. The street lamp illuminated her face, revealing her anxious expression.
Xia Zhiqing approached him cautiously. "Chairman Cheng, I have sothing I want to say to you."
Cheng Qiaobei instinctively looked at the surveillance caras. A large tree conveniently blocked the view. He didn’t want to be manipulated again. "Stay there."
Xia Zhiqing imdiately stopped. "Chairman Cheng, I don’t an any harm. I just want to explain the trending topic."
Cheng Qiaobei frowned and pointed to the front of the car. "Say it from there."
Seeing Cheng Qiaobei so guarded against her, Xia Zhiqing knew she had offended him.
"Chairman Cheng, don’t worry, no one is filming us. About the trending topic, I really didn’t want it,"
Cheng Qiaobei was still thinking about Chen Ningxi at the hospital. "I have things to do today. We’ll talk tomorrow."
Seeing him about to leave, Xia Zhiqing realized he would be gone tomorrow, and who knew when they’d et again. If she didn’t clear things up, she was worried she’d end up like the young model.
"Chairman Cheng," Xia Zhiqing urgently blocked Cheng Qiaobei, "Chairman Cheng, could I take a mont of your ti to explain everything?"
Cheng Qiaobei said, "No need. I’ve already talked with President Liang, and I have an urgent matter now."
Xia Zhiqing said, "Chairman Cheng, it wasn’t my idea. It was... it was us..."
But she couldn’t reveal the company’s intention, as it would an selling out Liang Fangyi, her boss.
