Chapter 486: Chapter 487 Continue Pouring_1
Yu Ze had originally thought that now that Muniang was finally resting at ho, he could spend more ti doting on her, but who knew she would beco so serious and wouldn’t even let him touch her.
“The first three months are the critical period, don’t even ntion matters of the bed to , go roll over and sleep on the other side!”
Muniang wrapped herself in the quilt and kicked Yu Ze with one foot.
Yu Ze wore a look of aggrieved displeasure, “Wife, haven’t the past two months gone well?”
Muniang glared at him, “That was because I didn’t know! Now forget it!” This child was her lifeline; if anything went wrong, she would be anxious to death.
Yu Ze ground his teeth and had no choice but to silently endure, his heart harboring a bit more resentnt toward the child.
“Right, the Governor of Qinghua City has been dealt with, who are they planning to let take over?” Muniang only just rembered to ask.
Yu Ze wrapped Muniang in his arms, half-leaning against the headboard playing with her hair, “I don’t know, it’s not yet decided. They’ll probably wait until Jin Renjie’s case is settled before discussing it further. Moreover, since there’s no Autumn Examination this year, they can’t select new officials, so they’ll have to see if there’s soone suitable from another place for a transfer. Do you have any thoughts?”
Muniang looped an arm around Yu Ze’s neck, “Since there’s no candidate yet, why not consider Lord Lu? He dedicates himself to the people and he would certainly make a very good magistrate in Qinghua City.”
“I knew you would think that,” Yu Ze pinched her nose.
Muniang raised an eyebrow, “Of course, in the future Qinghua City will not be just any place. With Qiao Muniang here, it’s bound to steal all the lilight from the Capital City soday. It’s a potential stock that’s sure to appreciate in value. It’s better to give this sweet deal to soone we’re familiar with than to an outsider.”
“I know how formidable my wife is,” Yu Ze said, a smile curving on his lips.
When Lord Lu received the official appointnt from above, he was so moved he was almost in tears. He really hadn’t expected to receive a promotion, and even a rise of three ranks at that! That was indeed sothing extraordinary.
“Qi’er, co quickly and check for Dad, Dad didn’t read it wrong, did he? Governor of Qinghua City? Magistrate?!”
Looking at her father’s pathetic excitent, Lu Qi’er couldn’t help but feel speechless, “Dad, you read it right. It’s the Magistrate. Who would have thought that with Lord Jin’s downfall, such a benefit would fall into your lap.”
“That’s true, how did it fall into my lap? This rise by three ranks is too…” Lord Lu didn’t finish his sentence when Lu Qi’er already understood.
“I reckon it’s Sister Mu who helped. Dad, if you want to express your gratitude, you should thank Sister Mu,” said Lu Qi’er.
Lord Lu was stunned for a mont, “What do you an? Why would Lady Yu help?”
“Dad, I’m telling you this, but you must absolutely not spread it around, Yu is not soone to be trifled with. Do you know the vacant Prince An Mansion in Qinghua City?”
Lord Lu’s jaw almost hit the floor, “He’an… He’an…”
Lu Qi’er nodded, and Lord Lu suddenly broke into a cold sweat, finally understanding the warning his daughter had given him earlier. Lu Ziquan, that brainless fool, had dared to harm the child of Prince An. If it hadn’t been for the private relationship between Qiao Muniang and him, he wouldn’t just miss out on a promotion by now; he might have t the sa fate as Lord Jin and his family.
“Dad, you really need to be more cautious in the future. Sister Mu has given you plenty of face this ti. The matter with brother was his own fault, and you shouldn’t hold a grudge against Sister Mu just because of it. Not to ntion Sister Mu is inherently a good person, even if she weren’t, with her status as Princess An, crushing you would be as easy as crushing an ant,” said Lu Qi’er with profound sincerity, worried that her father was being foolish.
Lord Lu felt as if he had been struck by several bolts of lightning; his mind was reeling, but he still managed to nod vaguely in response.
These past days, Muniang had been recuperating at ho, and Mrs. Lin had been making her a ton of nutritious concoctions. At first, it was manageable, but after eating them for a while, Muniang felt like she was going to throw up.
“Muniang, quickly drink this bowl of chicken soup. Mother made it especially for you.”
Watching as Mrs. Lin brought in yet another large tray, Muniang was on the verge of tears and looked to Yu Ze for help, only to see him spread his hands helplessly, “I can’t possibly offend my mother-in-law on your behalf.”
Muniang glared at him, but he still put on an innocent face.
Actually, Yu Ze was also at a loss. Ever since Muniang had beco pregnant, her appetite had grown increasingly fickle, and she could hardly stand greasy food. But how could she not replenish nutrients while carrying a child? If she had her way, her health might suffer.
So he had no choice but to use Mrs. Lin to pressure her. This little woman was not afraid of him; with a little coquetry, she could lt half his heart. If he coaxed her, she would definitely take advantage and refuse to eat. But Mrs. Lin was different; her tactics were much more effective.
“Mother, I’m not hungry at all right now, please leave
be. Just the sll is making
nauseous,” Muniang wished she could pinch her nose shut.
Mrs. Lin said anxiously, “Now is not the ti to be picky. You’re carrying a child. Co on, drink this.”
“Mother, I really don’t want to drink it. Let’s skip it this ti, okay? I’ll drink it next ti,” Muniang tried to wheedle her way out of it.
But Mrs. Lin imdiately put on a frail deanor, “Muniang, my health is still weak, and just getting out of bed for this little while has tired
out so much that I feel faint. I forced myself to make this for you. If you don’t eat it, wouldn’t all my effort be in vain?”
Muniang, feeling helpless and not wanting to disappoint Mrs. Lin’s intentions, reluctantly took the chicken soup and pinched her nose to gulp it down.
Yu Ze felt secretly ashad; this was an area in which he would never surpass Mrs. Lin.
Mrs. Lin chuckled to herself for a while before leaving satisfactorily with the tray.
But Muniang was far from okay; the chicken soup she’d been fed churned in her stomach, making her so uncomfortable she wanted to vomit. Her aggrieved little face was all scrunched up.
Seeing her discomfort, Yu Ze felt truly sorry and after much cajoling and feeding her a few candies, she finally felt better.
Her stomach felt better, but Muniang was still upset. She could tell that Yu Ze was in cahoots with her mother and huffily said, “I’m going to the embroidery room.”
Yu Ze pulled her back, “What’s wrong? Are you mad at ? I’m doing this for your own good. If you don’t get enough nutrition, the child won’t be healthy either.”
Muniang understood the reasoning, but being force-fed these days hadn’t sat well with her, and a man naturally wouldn’t understand how uncomfortable she felt swallowing it. Since she didn’t dare to lose her temper with Mrs. Lin, she took her frustration out on Yu Ze, this ‘soft persimmon’ that she could squeeze.
“Don’t bother ! Going to the embroidery room won’t stop
from drinking chicken soup!” Muniang stord off after dropping that line.
Yu Ze was filled with helplessness, knowing he had offended his wife. Still, he couldn’t change his basic stance, so he simply had a few Hidden Guards follow her to keep watch. Muniang’s temper had beco sharper with the pregnancy, but usually, after a little while, she would cool off—then he would continue the feeding…
