Chapter 317: Chapter 318: Planning to Murder Her Husband_1
Yu Ze saw Muniang to the door, feeling unwilling to part, but with so many people around, he couldn’t do anything more intimate, so he could only watch forlornly as Muniang walked away.
Upon arriving at the Jiang Family, Jiang Hengyu greeted her with great enthusiasm, “Tsk, tsk, I always said Yu Ze would eventually send you here. I’m telling you, in the Capital City, no one is closer to him than I am!”
Muniang felt speechless; was this sothing even worth bragging about?
The maids finished organizing her things, and the Jiang Family had specially arranged a courtyard for Muniang, the Chui Yuge. Although it was just a short stay for a month, they were very attentive. It seed that the relationship between the Jiang Family and the Yu Family was indeed quite good.
Jiang Hengyu was a chatterbox — once he started talking, he would not stop. But his stories were interesting, all about the amusing tales of the Capital City, which Muniang found quite entertaining.
“It’s not just
boasting — the title of one of the Capital City’s Four Masters wasn’t given to
for nothing. There are so many influential young masters in the Capital City, so why was I singled out?” Jiang Hengyu boasted with pride.
Muniang felt embarrassed for herself; she had been blind when she thought he was good-looking because of those sugar figures.
“Hey, I’m asking you sothing, why aren’t you saying anything?” Jiang Hengyu looked at Muniang expectantly.
Muniang replied dispiritedly, “I don’t want to know.”
Jiang Hengyu harrumphed, “It’s because Yu Ze didn’t make the list, isn’t it? Let
tell you, just because of that, I am better than Yu Ze!”
A thousand horses galloped through Muniang’s mind, thinking aside from his face, this man really had nothing else going for him.
But Muniang was indeed curious, “You say that Yu Ze isn’t included, why is that?”
“That guy has been staying at the frontier for ten years; of course, he isn’t included,” Jiang Hengyu replied.
Muniang responded with an “Oh,” and asked, “Then who are these Four Masters of the Capital City you’re talking about?”
Jiang Hengyu liked it when Muniang asked these kinds of questions, and said smugly, “Of course, I don’t need to ntion myself, hahaha, then there’s the forr Prince Qi, Mr. Helian Yue of the Helian Family, and also a businessman, Wu Haoli, who actually owns Dongxing Building. Do you know of it?”
Muniang was slightly startled and lanted inwardly. Wu Haoli’s status had fallen to the level of being lumped together with this sort of fellow — no wonder Wu Haoli had never ntioned it, probably because it was too embarrassing to bring up.
During this month, Muniang couldn’t leave the house and had to stay indoors, but with Jiang Hengyu the joker around, the days weren’t too boring.
That evening, as was her custom, Muniang tidied up early and dismissed the maids, ready to turn off the lights and go to bed, when she suddenly noticed a shadow flickering at her window. Muniang’s heart skipped a beat; could it be another assassin?
Muniang suppressed the panic in her chest, her hand already reaching under her pillow for a curved knife. Since the two previous assassination attempts, she had beco much more vigilant, always keeping a knife at hand while sleeping.
The outside was pitch-black, and she couldn’t see anything, so Muniang did not dare to act rashly, waiting instead to stab at the approaching person.
She distinctly felt soone drawing nearer to her prowl, and Muniang instantly pulled out the knife, ready to thrust with the speed of lightning.
But her wrist was seized, and she heard a familiar voice, “Are you trying to murder your own husband?”
Muniang flipped over and got closer to the person, finally recognizing his face — it was Yu Ze.
Muniang dropped the knife in annoyance, “What is this, scaring soone in the middle of the night for no reason?”
Yu Ze sat on the bed edge and hoisted Muniang onto his lap in an embrace, “I missed you. Lucky for us, I reacted quickly, or else by now, you would have had to collect my body.”
Muniang glared, “What nonsense are you spouting!”
Although she was not from this era, after such a long ti being influenced by it, she also disliked hearing words like “death,” especially when it ca to Yu Ze.
“All right, all right, I was wrong, okay? I just had such a big scare, and you’re not even consoling
but scolding
instead. You really are a little wild cat.”
Muniang’s tone indeed softened, “Are you hurt? I was just being cautious, how would I know it was you? What are you doing wandering around in the middle of the night? We agreed that we can’t et before the wedding; it’s against the rules.”
“I ca at night exactly because it’s against the rules. I can’t even see you, and I missed you to death,” Yu Ze said, and once again started to get handsy.
Muniang slapped his hands away without any courtesy, “I’m still a respectable maiden, don’t ss around with !”
Yu Ze looked aggrieved, “But we almost—”
“Almost what?” Muniang glared at him fiercely.
Yu Ze could only say, “Nothing.”
Muniang laughed with a “Pfft,” grabbed his face, “How co you’re even cuter than when you played the fool?”
Yu Ze said with a grievance, “A kiss should be okay, right?”
Muniang couldn’t resist this move of his, feeling as if she was mistreating him, and after all, he had indeed made a lot of effort to climb the wall and co in at this late hour. So, she hooked his neck and kissed him, her clever little tongue darted in, lightly sweeping over his teeth.
Yu Ze was overjoyed; it was a rare mont of Muniang taking the initiative. He held Muniang and kissed her passionately for a long ti before stopping.
Muniang’s lips were swollen and red, and she pushed him irritably, “All right, hurry up and go, otherwise it would be terrible if we were discovered.”
Yu Ze looked at Muniang’s lips, which were tempting and luscious, swallowed hard, and could only say, “I’ll co to see you again next ti.” Then he flipped out of the window with a swift move.
Muniang silently laughed, is there even going to be a next ti? He really was sothing else, acting like they were having a secret affair even though they were about to beco husband and wife.
A month went by slowly, and Yu Ze, who had been looking forward to it, finally reached the long-awaited day of joy.
While it was still dim outside, Muniang was dragged out of bed by her maids, washed ticulously as if cleansing a cabbage, and then dressed piece by piece in the elaborate bridal attire. Every ornant was carefully prepared: the scented silk pouch around her waist, the warm jade bracelet on her wrist, and even each strand of her hair had to be combed thoroughly.
As it was almost ti, Jiang Hengyu entered the room, his eyes lighting up when he saw Muniang’s getup, “That’s really not bad at all.”
Muniang asked, “What are you doing here?”
Jiang Hengyu patted his chest, “I’m here to act as your brother, to carry the bride out the door!”
Only then did Muniang rember this custom and said, “Thank you.”
“What are you being polite for! I’m acting as your brother and still getting the better of Yu Ze. When he cos to fetch the bride, I’ll have to put on the airs of an elder brother and give him a good teaching,” Jiang Hengyu laughed heartily, clearly cherishing the rare opportunity to one-up Yu Ze.
Muniang’s mouth twitched; she really didn’t want to talk to this joker.
Suddenly, the sound of firecrackers burst from the doorway, and an old woman shouted, “The groom is here!”
