Chapter 241: Chapter 242 Provocation_1
“So there really was sothing amiss, but he hadn’t ntioned a word to her. Muniang laughed at herself wryly, ‘It’s aningless.'”
“Did sothing happen? Why do you look so upset,” Wu Haoli frowned, aware of the news that He Suxue had co here, but Muniang’s mood was indeed very strange. Wasn’t she soone not easily taken advantage of?
“A few days ago, Yu Ze rescued a woman. It’s said that she ca from the Capital City, having traveled a great distance to find him. During these days spent together, I almost forgot the fact that he ca from the Capital City too; he never ntioned it,” Muniang’s tone was exceptionally desolate. He never ntioned it.
Although Wu Haoli had anticipated this outco, he still felt a pang of heartache for Muniang as she was now, so he joked with a smile, “You’re jealous because he rescued a woman?”
Muniang glared at him irritably, “What’s there for
to be jealous about? It’s beneath a gentleman to ignore soone in peril. If I got angry every ti he saved soone, I would have died of rage by now.” Although she said this, her heart felt uncomfortably blocked.
Wu Haoli’s lips curled, “Do you really think Yu Ze is the kind of person whose kindness is so overflowing that he would draw his sword to help anyone he sees in trouble on the road?”
Muniang’s heart ached, rembering how Yu Ze, upon seeing He Suxue’s face clearly, didn’t hesitate to leap to her rescue. The mont the dagger landed on the horse’s hindquarters, crazedly pulling the carriage toward the cliff’s edge, no one knew the panic she felt inside the carriage at that instant—seeing him outside, protecting He Suxue with such sorrow.
He was always a cold-hearted person, so how could he care so much for just anyone?
Pursing her lips, Muniang glared at him, “You think you understand him better than I do?!” Then with a “hmph,” she stood up and strode out briskly.
“Qingya! See the guest out!”
Qingya looked awkwardly at Wu Haoli, and apologized sowhat sheepishly, “Mr. Wu, please don’t be offended, our Lady—”
Wu Haoli touched his nose and replied, “I know, it’s fine. I’ll co back another ti.”
This reassured Qingya, who quickly smiled and escorted Wu Haoli out.
Yu Ze had been chopping wood on the mountain and encountered Wu Haoli who was just about to leave. Yu Ze’s whole aura was off, “You sure co here often.”
But Wu Haoli appeared completely oblivious to the insinuation in his words, “Oh? I like to visit frequently to foster neighborly relations. Besides, it’s not like I’m an outsider.”
Yu Ze’s fists clenched inside his sleeves with a cracking sound. Qingya hurried forward, “The Lady was just in the kitchen, worrying that the firewood was running out. Perhaps, Sir, you should first—”
Yu Ze, aware of Wu Haoli’s background, held back because of the nurous dealings Muniang had with Dongxing Building. He restrained himself but, as he passed by Wu Haoli, warned him in a low voice, “Don’t harbor any inappropriate ideas. Stay away from her! She’s none of your business in this lifeti!”
Wu Haoli turned his head to watch him, replying with a teasing smile, “I stand by what I said. Who knows about the future?”
After speaking, he flicked his sleeve and walked straight out of the estate.
Yu Ze watched his retreating figure, his eyes growing sharper, but ultimately, he said nothing and turned to go inside.
“My dear, I’m back!” Yu Ze called out as soon as he reached the kitchen door, then walked in.
Muniang forcefully slamd the kitchen knife into the chopping board, her face expressionless.
Yu Ze was taken aback, “What’s wrong?”
Binding her anger, Muniang asked, “Have you been keeping many things from ? Is your relationship with He Suxue really just an arranged betrothal?”
Yu Ze furrowed his brow, “Why are you suddenly asking this?”
“Just tell .”
Yu Ze let out a sigh, “Many things are hard to explain clearly, I—”
Before he could finish, an auntie rushed in, gasping for air and said, “The girl your family brought back so days ago, sothing’s happened! It seems she’s lost all hope and wants to jump into the river! Hurry and go persuade her, we can’t stop her!”
Yu Ze’s expression darkened, and he imdiately dashed out of the door, moving so quickly that he nearly made the auntie’s eyes spin.
The auntie touched her head, “Hey, how co your husband’s steps are so quick?”
Muniang stood still, unable to utter a word, she knew this was the proof He Suxue wanted to give her, the challenge she had thrown at her in the kitchen earlier. Indeed, He Suxue did have the confidence she claid.
“Do you really think that Yu Ze is the kind of person who is so kind-hearted that he sees soone in trouble on the road and draws his sword to help at no regards to himself?”
“I’ll let you know very soon, in his heart, the comparison between you and
doesn’t hold up.”
Muniang forced a smile, her heart suddenly filled with mixed feelings.
“Muniang, aren’t you going to take a look? This could lead to a loss of life. Are you too scared to move?” the auntie urged anxiously.
Muniang scoffed, “She won’t die. You go ahead, auntie, I’ll co shortly.”
The auntie couldn’t grasp the situation for a mont and could only walk away, dumbfounded.
Muniang had no intention of going and simply returned to her room, shutting herself inside.
When Yu Ze arrived at the riverbank, He Suxue had already stepped into the river, the water rising past her waist. Her eyes, blurred with tears, still glimred with them as she scread hoarsely, “Don’t co over, I don’t need your ddling, let
die!”
A crowd had gathered on the riverbank, everyone unwilling to witness a tragedy unfold. But with the girl’s emotions so unstable, if anyone attempted a rash rescue and she, in a fit of agitation, took a few more steps forward and drowned—how could they live with that?
Yu Ze’s face was stern, “What are you doing? Get up here this instant!”
He Suxue spotted Yu Ze, and a flicker of joy passed through her tearful eyes, but she continued to cry, “I won’t! You don’t want
anyway, what’s the point of living? Now all you have eyes for is Qiao Muniang. I’ve waited for you for so many years, waited for you to co ho, but now you tell
there’s another woman. I shalessly ca here, yet I have to endure her attitude, when she is clearly—”
“Enough!” Yu Ze barked, “Will you stop it already? You’re supposed to be a proper lady, and now you’re making a scene like a peasant woman, carelessly throwing away the He Family’s face!”
He Suxue bit her lip. If it weren’t for him, why would she resort to such a sche? Her words, indirectly and directly, were misleading others, making them believe that she was Yu Ze’s legal wife and that Qiao Muniang was just a mistress, a bitch kept on the side!
As expected, the crowd imdiately erupted into noisy discussion.
“Qiao Muniang is actually a mistress? I thought she was legitimately wedded, turns out it was all deceit!”
“Tsk tsk, always knew that family was out of the ordinary, why would they fancy a village girl? A legal wife, how could it be? Turns out it was sothing underhanded! I knew there was a reason they didn’t have a wedding; it was because of this!”
“So Qiao Muniang is just a mistress, and yet she has the audacity to show her true colors to the real Lady, pushing her to the point of attempting suicide by jumping into the river. Such a ruthless plotter she must be!”
