For so reason, Yan Junyu set out alone this ti, without even bringing Guan Yu, his personal attendant. Over the past few days, Young Master Yan, who used to have everything done for him, had managed to beco self-sufficient, no longer requiring others to wait on him.
Young Master Yan showed a keen interest in the Mo Family’s orchard, herb fields, rice paddies, and even in Liu Yang Village and Yuhua Mountain. Besides eating and sleeping, he spent his ti exploring these places, or seizing the opportunity to sneak into the school to tell the children eerie ghost stories and scare them, which he found far from dull or boring.
That day, after breakfast, Yan Junyu called on Little Flower as usual, asking it to take him on an adventure in the mountains. During this season, the mountains yielded many fine things, from ga to unusual wild fruit and rare green plants, all of which could delight him for a good while.
"Young Master, are you heading into the mountains again?" Dani, carrying a bamboo winnowing basket, happened upon Yan Junyu just as he was about to leave. A hint of shyness appeared on her face, and her eyes sparkled more than usual.
Ever since Tie Tou and Liu Qingqing had gotten engaged, the marriage arrangent of Dani, who was not so young anymore, had also beco a priority for the Wu family. Wu’s had had three matchmakers propose alliances for Dani, and so it was not proper for her to show her face publicly anymore. After discussing with Mo Yan, she had hired a woman to help her out.
The Wu family had not bought any land, so Dani usually looked after her younger siblings at ho, did the chores, and picked up needlework again. She often visited the Mo Family to consult with Lixiu, and lately, she had been coming more frequently, which ant she often encountered Yan Junyu.
"Mm, good morning, Miss Wu," Yan Junyu, not noticing the young woman’s peculiar behavior, greeted her politely because of Mo Yan.
This simple greeting caused faint blush to creep onto Dani’s face, making her usual complexion a few shades more attractive: "There are many snakes, insects, rats, and ants in the mountains, so of them poisonous. Young Master, please be careful not to get bitten."
At her words, Yan Junyu subconsciously touched an object hanging at his waist, his expression becoming unusually tender: "Thank you for the warning, Miss Wu. With this sachet here, those creatures won’t dare co close."
Dani did not miss the man’s small gesture, and a hard-to-bear sourness surged up in her heart. She said with self-mockery, "I am being too ddleso."
Yan Junyu gave Dani a puzzled look, not understanding why she suddenly manifested such emotions.
However, his acquaintance with Dani was limited, and they were unlikely to have much interaction in the future. He didn’t have the leisure to speculate about the troubles of a woman who didn’t matter to him. So he nodded at Dani, pinched the ear of the restless Little Flower, and urged, "It’s getting late, hurry and follow into the mountains."
Little Flower, impatient, shook its head to break free from Yan Junyu’s hand and, with a long howl, dashed towards the back mountain, leading the way.
"Little Flower, slow down for , I can’t keep up!" Carrying the heavy bow and arrows on his back, Yan Junyu chased after shouting in frustration as man and beast quickly disappeared into the dense forest.
Dani watched quietly as the man’s tall figure faded from view, until not a sound could be heard anymore, and the stars in her eyes gradually dimd.
At that mont, Mo Yan erged from the house and saw Dani standing at the doorstep with her back to her, asking in confusion, "Big Sister Dani, why aren’t you coming in?"
Dani, as if waking from a dream, quickly turned around and handed the bamboo winnowing basket to Mo Yan, saying, "My mother made so roasted tea leaves last night, so I brought so for you to try. Since you’re here, it saves the trouble of going inside."
The smile on Dani’s face was too forced, and Mo Yan noticed it right away. Accepting the basket, she asked with concern, "Big Sister Dani, do you have sothing on your mind?"
