"Mother—," Chen Shanshan stared at Mrs. Du in disbelief, clearly not understanding why Mrs. Du would make excuses for a country bumpkin.
Mrs. Du had no mind to explain to her, seeing Mo Yan’s indifferent face, which clearly showed no interest in engaging with her, made Mrs. Du’s heart feel as if it was blocked by a boulder, extrely uncomfortable, and the questions she wanted to ask also couldn’t be voiced.
Mo Yan secretly breathed a sigh of relief, but just then, Xin Er, pulling Zhenzhen, got off the carriage and ran over. Zhenzhen glared angrily at the mother-daughter pair and asked, "Sister, did soone bully you?"
Mo Yan was taken aback and instinctively positioned herself in front of the two youngsters, hiding their faces, "Sister is fine! Didn’t I tell you not to co down? What if you get sick from the cold? Hurry back onto the carriage!"
The two little ones had charged out from behind her, and she hadn’t even noticed. She just hoped that the woman, who seed to be Mrs. Du, hadn’t seen their faces, for one child looked so much like her, and the other nearly a carving of their father. If this woman truly was Mrs. Du, she would certainly recognize them!
The siblings didn’t know their sister’s concerns; seeing their sister standing in front of them, they simply thought she was worried about them getting hurt, which only made them more certain that the two won had been bullying their sister.
Thus, the two of them simultaneously stepped out from behind Mo Yan, their little faces fully exposed to Mrs. Du’s gaze, and Mo Yan couldn’t block them in ti.
"Why do you want to bully my sister?" Xin Er glared at the mother-daughter pair with an angry face, unaware of how much of a shock her own visage presented to them.
Chen Shanshan’s eyes widened, as if seeing a ghost while looking at Xin Er, then back at Mrs. Du, she stuttered, "Mo-mother, this brat, this brat..."
At this mont, Mrs. Du was utterly deaf to her stepdaughter’s words, staring at Xin Er for a long while, astonished, then her stiff gaze shifted to Zhenzhen’s face, her face full of disbelief, unconsciously reaching out to touch their faces.
Seeing her expression, Mo Yan inwardly cursed, quickly yanked the siblings to her side, and said sternly, "Listen to your elder sister, hurry back onto the carriage, or your sister will get angry."
The two little ones didn’t understand why their sister was so angry; it was the first ti they saw their sister talking to them so seriously, and they instinctively stepped back, a bit frightened.
Zhenzhen, observing the mother and daughter’s odd expressions, found the older woman’s face rather familiar, but the thought of her bullying his elder sister wiped that feeling away, and emboldened, he loudly said, "Big sister, if soone bullies you, we can’t leave!"
Seeing him disobey at such a critical mont, Mo Yan truly beca irate, landed a slap on his back, and pushed the two of them toward the carriage, "No one is bullying your sister, get on the carriage now."
That slap on the back didn’t hurt at all, but Zhenzhen felt genuinely saddened. Seeing his big sister’s stern face and her low spirits, he silently climbed onto the carriage.
Xin Er also didn’t dare to say anything and obediently followed. But just before entering the carriage, she turned her head for one more glance, and just happened to et Mrs. Du’s complex gaze. A strange feeling washed over her, and she quickly shook her head to dismiss the sight, sitting down inside the carriage.
It wasn’t until the children were on the carriage and out of sight that Mrs. Du regained her senses, her gaze returning to Mo Yan, now even more fervent, making Mo Yan feel a bit creeped out.
"Alright, the carriages have been separated!"
Right then, the two carriages were successfully parted, and Mo Yan was relieved, quickly thanking the bystanders who had helped. As Chen Shanshan’s unruly behavior provided a stark contrast, the crowd had a good impression of her. They politely waved their hands before dispersing.
