Later, the Crown Prince ascended the throne and, with thunderous asures, executed over a hundred corrupt officials. No one called him cruel. Even when he took the initiative to send troops to attack the restless neighboring small countries, people praised him for having the spirit of the great ancestor, and there were no accusations of overzealous militarism in the historical records.

Qi Nan brought back three hundred veteran soldiers, more than half of whom were over fifty years old. This group of old n had experienced the most difficult conditions on the frontier. They were aged and weak and couldn’t do heavy labor. A large portion of them had suffered severe injuries in their early years, leaving them with hidden ailnts that sotis confined them to bed.

If it weren’t for the other veterans who could barely make ends et often helping them, these stubborn old n, who refused to accept further aid from the Court, would have probably died of hunger or illness a long ti ago.

The remaining half of the veterans varied in age, including young n who hadn’t married yet and were seventeen or eighteen, and n in their forties. All had been injured on the battlefield: so lost an arm, so a leg, and others had severe internal injuries with their days numbered.

Mo Yan had anticipated this situation and, thick-skinned, invited all the doctors from Du’s dical Hall, including her master, to co over to check the veterans’ health and provide dical treatnt.

Everyone knew that these people had little capacity for labor. Saying that they would work for the Mo Family to support themselves was just a way to let these n, who had sacrificed for their country, let go of their burdens and live out their final years in peace.

Seeing the true state of these n clearly, Chu Heng’s view of Mo Yan had risen to a new level, and his impression of her improved greatly. He even felt that, aside from the issue of her background, there seed to be nothing that made her unworthy of his cousin.

As for the Ministers, they didn’t co for nothing. They each presented the Silver they had prepared to Mo Yan, expressing their sincerity.

Whether they were showboating or truly sincere didn’t matter—Mo Yan had no reason to refuse. She accepted everything and set it aside, allocating it to be used for the veterans’ dical expenses. She had plenty of dicinal materials that she could provide for free, but she certainly couldn’t let her master suffer losses. Moreover, since all the doctors from the dical hall had co, she couldn’t let them return empty-handed.

After a whole day of busyness, they finally settled in the three hundred veterans, which left Mo Yan utterly exhausted. Fortunately, Chu Heng and the Ministers were tactful. After inspecting the houses where the veterans would live and the new clothes given to them, they left for the city without imposing on the Mo Family for a al.

Not just Mo Yan, but everyone else in the Mo Family had been running around all day, busy preparing als for the group of soldiers. After the latest supper since moving to Liu Yang Village, everyone was so drained that they slumped in their chairs, not even wanting to tidy up the bowls and chopsticks.

"Sister, do we need to hire a few people to cook for those soldiers?" Thinking about doing it all again tomorrow, Xin Er crinkled her face and pitifully put forth the suggestion to her sister.

"There’s no need to hire anyone specially. Let them get settled in, and then I’ll see who knows how to cook. After that, we can let them cook for themselves. We just need to deliver the ingredients to them every day. Let’s just work a little harder ourselves for these next few days." Mo Yan did not agree with Xin Er’s suggestion.

Those soldiers, who had co through the piles of dead on the battlefield, even if they were missing hands or feet, did not want to accept help for nothing. Hiring soone specifically to cook for them, despite the good intentions, would also hurt their pride. They may not be able to do strenuous work, but cooking was not difficult; it was better to let them do it themselves and feel more comfortable.

"Alright then..." Xin Er didn’t understand her sister’s reasoning, yet she did not question her sister’s decision.
