Qiao Zhaodi and Qiao Yindi run off to the kitchen to scoop water at her command.
Qiao Xiaomai then turns her attention toward the Zhang Family. Having been petrified by Qiao Xiaomai’s threat to Zhu Hongyun, and with Tong Sanlang now gone, they slowly sit down on the ground. Feeling restless and insecure, they lie down, their hands covering their heads, their bodies curled up into balls.
Qiao Xiaomai can’t be bothered with them. Her gaze returns to Zhu Hongyun, “The ten taels of silver, fork it out.”
“I don’t have it,” Zhu Hongyun says, her lips trembling.
Qiao Xiaomai laughs, “So, how much do you have?”
“Less than one tael.”
“Are you trying to fool a three-year-old? Tong Sanlang even has a stash of over a hundred taels of silver, and you and Tong Erlang don’t even have one tael?” Qiao Xiaomai says, scoffing at her.
“We spent it all. We have none left. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have sold the prescriptions,” Zhu Hongyun lowers her head, her hands clenched around her clothes as she speaks.
“Zhaodi, Yindi, go search Zhu Hongyun’s room. If you find anything of value, bring it out.” Qiao Xiaomai instructs the sisters, who are washing their faces by the washbasin.
This command startles the sisters.

Search the room?
Behave like thieves, just like the Sun Family?
Upon hearing this, Zhu Hongyun, raises her head, exclaiming, “You dare!”
Qiao Xiaomai raises an eyebrow, “So, you do have valuable things but are unwilling to part with them.”
“I don’t!” Zhu Hongyun retorts, flustered.
“Then what are you scared of?” Qiao Xiaomai glances at her, her voice suddenly icier, “Zhaodi, Yindi, go search!”
Upon hearing the tone of this command, the sisters exchange a glance, and forget about finishing washing their faces. They quickly stand up and run toward Zhu Hongyun’s room.
Seeing this, Zhu Hongyun becos anxious, and tries to intercept them.
Qiao Xiaomai calmly warns her, “Don’t run. If sothing happens to the child in your belly, your safety umbrella will be gone.”
Her words stop Zhu Hongyun imdiately.
It’s the truth. The child in her belly is the only reason she’s not hard. Nothing can happen to it.
