Chapter 1650: Chapter 1649: The New Daughter-in-law is Quite Good

After hearing about Tong Erlang’s situation, Liu Lanfen nodded without the slightest hesitation.

She had been caught by the city patrol guards and sent back to the Liu Family. Her father, constrained by public opinion, had not taken drastic action against her for the ti being. But she understood this was not the end. Her father intended to sell her off again once the scandal cooled down.

Last ti, she was sold to beco a concubine of an official family. After the fiasco, the next ti would certainly be out of the Capital City altogether.

Rather than waiting for an uncertain future in so unknown place, it was better to marry Tong Erlang.

Tong Erlang, although riddled with flaws, still had his rits: he wasn’t malicious at heart and would dote on his wife.

These two qualities were enough.

She didn’t have high expectations for a husband—just these two traits sufficed to earn her agreent.

As soon as she nodded, Yang Wenxiao’s people imdiately reported her decision back to Yang Wenxiao.

Yang Wenxiao then summoned Tong Sanlang to ask for his opinion.

Tong Sanlang, after probing into Liu Lanfen’s character, confird that her personality, while fiery, lacked Zhu Hongyun’s vices and agreed as well.

Not only did he agree, but he also sent six chests of dowry to Liu Lanfen, all of which he had obtained from Qiao Xiaomai. Qiao Xiaomai’s warehouse was already so full of clothes and jewelry that it was about to overflow.

Yang Wenxiao also casually added to her dowry, and thus Liu Lanfen was promptly sent to the manor.

Upon her arrival at the manor, Tong Tiehu paid considerable attention. Tong Erlang, though half-crippled, was not completely hopeless—there was still a chance for recovery. He hoped the new granddaughter-in-law could help pull Tong Erlang back on his feet, so he hosted a lively wedding for Tong Erlang and Liu Lanfen.

At that ti, Tong Erlang was still deeply yearning for Zhu Hongyun and had no intention of taking a wife. It was Tong Tiehu who ordered people to physically press him into completing the marriage ceremony.

After the wedding, Liu Lanfen devoted herself to managing the household and raising the child. She spoke to Tong Erlang gently and cared for Yangyang with a mother’s love and attention. Although both Tong Erlang and Yangyang ignored her, she was never upset and went about her days cheerfully.

Liu Lanfen, after all, was the daughter of an official family. Though she was not proficient, she had so skill in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting. Coupled with her outstanding looks and gentle deanor, over ti, Tong Erlang gradually showed her a kinder face.

A girl of Liu Lanfen’s standing was completely out of reach for soone like Tong Erlang. That he could have fallen for Zhu Hongyun in the past showed just how low his standards had been.

Previously trapped in his nostalgia for Zhu Hongyun, he couldn’t pull himself free. But now, looking at Liu Lanfen with a clear mind, she truly seed like a celestial maiden descended to earth.

A pampered lady of noble upbringing, adept in many talents, beautiful, and gentle—compared to Zhu Hongyun, a coarse village woman, she was indeed like a goddess.

To have lost a shrew who dared to lay hands on a princess, only for a fairy to fall from the heavens to replace her—this turn of fortune left even Tong Erlang, sunk as he was in mories of Zhu Hongyun, unable to deny that Tong Tiehu had treated him well.

And so he, half-heartedly yet willingly, consummated the marriage with Liu Lanfen and began a new phase of life.

“Your second brother is a man of little ambition, no ability, and no bigger plans; he’s easy to control. Liu Lanfen quickly got him wrapped around her finger,” Tong Tiehu remarked. “At least for now, Liu Lanfen seems to be doing well.”

Tong Sanlang let out a sigh of relief at these words. “That’s good, then.”

“I don’t expect him to achieve great things; I just want him to live a stable life.”

Tong Tiehu grunted in agreent. “I’ll keep an eye on them for now. Hopefully, Liu Lanfen won’t disappoint .”

Seated nearby, Qiao Xiaomai, who had been listening, couldn’t help but speak up, “Since she dared to flee her arranged marriage and stand up to her father, she must understand how precious stability is now.”

If this Liu Lanfen didn’t stir up trouble, Qiao Xiaomai would acknowledge her as a sister-in-law.
