That night, Claire Shaw remained pressed against Ethan Blackwood’s chest. Ethan gently stroked her wrist, looking at the bandaged gauze on her arm, his eyes cold and deep.

He resembled a lion ready to pounce, with the darkness masking the chill emanating from him.

It wasn’t until dawn that Claire finally fell into a deep sleep. He carefully released her body and quietly got out of bed.

In the swaying wind and rain, he lit a cigarette, wide awake, his silhouette elongated by the night.

Finn Pierce stood respectfully by his side, saying, "The factory area has been abandoned for years, and the caras are long dead; we couldn’t find that mysterious man."

"What about the mall’s surveillance? He managed to save Ms. Shaw just in ti. He might be hiding in the crowd."

"I’ve watched it many tis, no suspicious individuals spotted. Either he’s incredibly skilled at hiding, precisely avoiding all caras, or he wasn’t in the mall at all."

Ethan exhaled a smoke ring. Claire had said that when she awoke, those thugs had multiple wounds, and later, the warehouse was burned down to destroy all evidence, leaving nothing behind.

Dealing with soone so ruthless isn’t a good thing.

"Sir, let’s put aside the mysterious man for now. There’s intelligence suggesting that ’Fox Hunting’ has secretly infiltrated ridia."

With a cigarette between his fingers, Ethan’s pupils suddenly enlarged, "If he dares to co, I’ll make him eternally rest in ridia. Search! Dig three feet if you have to find him."

"Yes."

Finn watched Ethan gripping the railing tightly, the veins on his hands protruding.

Apart from Claire, he rarely revealed his emotions.

Finn softly reminded, "Boss, it’s almost dawn. You should rest for a while."

Ethan stared at the hazy sky, his face covered in a thin mist, his jawline tense, "Yes, it’s dawn, but that person can no longer see it..."

A cold wind blew, scattering the ash between his fingers.

The white powder danced with the wind.

From the room ca Claire’s scream, "No!"

Ethan dropped the cigarette and quickly ran towards her.

Finn watched his departing figure and sighed softly.

After all these years, he still couldn’t let go.

As soon as Ethan pushed open the door, Claire jumped off the bed, quickly running towards him.

"Ethan."

Ethan held her tightly in his arms; the young girl had a nightmare and was drenched in cold sweat.

She wore a silk camisole with an open back, and her exposed back was covered in droplets of water, resembling peeled lychee.

Ethan gently wrapped his arms around her waist, speaking softly, "Don’t be afraid, I’m here."

The girl in his arms looked up, her face streaked with tears, biting her red lips pitifully, making Ethan’s heart ache.

He held her tightly in his embrace. Claire had slept for less than half an hour, waking imdiately when he left.

It’s evident this event had left a significant psychological shadow on her.

With her head buried in his embrace, Claire slled the strong scent of tobacco.

Ethan gently laid her on the bed, tapping her back like comforting a child, "Don’t be scared, it’s just a dream."

Claire tightly held onto his clothes, choking up, "Don’t leave , promise you’ll never leave, okay? Ethan, you’re all I have..."

Tears gradually soaked his clothes, also moistening the man’s heart.

Ethan softly licked away her tears, "Luna, you’re my life, how could I bear to leave?"

"Be good, I’ll watch over you, sleep a bit."

Slling Ethan’s scent, Claire finally fell into a deep sleep. She relied greatly on him.

In the afternoon, Claire was awakened by the vibration of a phone call.

Groggily answering the call without opening her eyes, "Hello."

A gentle voice ca from the other end, "What were you up to last night? How co you’re still sleeping in? That’s not like you."

Hearing the voice, Claire imdiately opened her eyes, her drowsiness dissipating instantly.

Flustered like a child, she stuttered, "Mr.— Mr. Jason, I had a bit of insomnia last night."

"Did I disturb you then?"

"No, no, sir, is there anything?"

Mr. Jason replied warmly, "It’s just been a while since I’ve seen you. Why don’t you co over for dinner after work?"

Claire nodded quickly, "Okay."

Jade Jason was her kindergarten teacher. At that ti, Miranda Shaw was in her crazy phase, with her mind always on how to marry into the Sutton Family.

Whenever she failed and in rage, she would rage and scold Claire, often forgetting to pick her up from school.

Jade, understanding the situation, took Claire ho, healing her with love.

Because of her, Claire decided to enter the preschool teaching field after graduation.

Her place in Claire’s heart was akin to a mother.

The teacher didn’t know she had already resigned.

When Claire hurriedly got out of bed, Ethan was already gone.

On the nightstand was a note he left, saying he would accompany her when he returned from work.

Looking at his strong, bold handwriting, Claire faintly smiled and sent him a ssage.

A mont later, a reply ca, offering to have a driver take her there.

Claire didn’t argue further. Although Yasmin Yorke had been caught, it was wiser to stay cautious in the future.

Today was another day of gentle rain. The hot sumr weather was swept away by heavy rain, bringing a hint of coolness to this June afternoon.

Despite the pain in her foot, Claire went to a flower shop to pick lily of the valley flowers that her teacher liked, along with so fruits.

Mr. Jason had divorced early and lived alone on the city outskirts after retirent, where the housing was affordable, with a big yard in front and a few acres of land behind, blending beautifully with nature.

Wyatt dropped Claire off at the gate and offered to carry the fruits inside.

Claire thanked him gently, "I’ll handle it. Please co back to pick up later."

"Okay."

Although Wyatt agreed, he only drove away slightly and didn’t leave completely.

As soon as Claire entered the yard, Mr. Jason ca out to greet her.

"Girl, co in quickly."

Claire, wearing a long-sleeved white shirt dress to cover the injuries on her arm, sweetly called out, "Mr. Jason."

"The flowers in the yard have blood, the sunflowers are huge, and the seeds inside are about to mature, right?"

"Yes, they can be eaten in a few days."

"When the ti cos, I’ll co over, and we can roast them to snack on while watching dramas..."

Claire happily chatted with her teacher, walking forward without looking and ran headfirst into a solid chest.

"Ah!"

She glanced back, and in front stood a tall man, dressed in a white shirt, with fair skin and delicate features.

A stark contrast to Ethan, he resembled a young master stepping out of a comic book.

Clean, noble.

The prominent bones of his wrist firmly supported Claire, his voice gentle, "Long ti no see, Little Fox."

Claire blinked her big eyes, connecting the man in front of her with the boy from her mory, "You’re... Hayden!"
