Serena knew she was in shock. It was why she was sitting here in a computer café, playing gas instead of trying to get answers to her questions. But knowing the problem did not an she’d found a solution for it. The truth was that she was a ss. Her mind was spinning, thoughts colliding, mories—or lack of them—taunting her. The clicking of the mouse beneath her fingers was the only thing keeping her grounded in the present.

She didn’t know how she had ended up here, but it felt safer than being anywhere near Owen or even Aiden. At first when she’d raced away from that house, she’d gone on mindlessly. Just wanting to get away from the pain in her head. Then she’d pondered about going to Aiden but even that thought repulsed her. What was she supposed to say to him? That her fiance had returned? What then?

It was only a long ti later that she finally decided that she needed to know more. Sothing did not add up, she was sure. She felt herself being haunted by Owen’s reproaching eyes as he saw her escaping his touch...escaping him. But to her, Owen was just a stranger.

Serena’s fingers drumd on the desk, her thoughts spiraling. She couldn’t hide from the truth forever. She would have to talk to Aiden eventually and let him know the truth. Maybe she could talk to Aiden and he would co up with a solution. After all, they were in a contract marriage... breathing deeply, she clenched her hands and ca to a decision. It was ti to have a word with her husband.

Serena stood outside the conference room, where Aiden was supposed to be apparently as per the secretary outside his office and breathed in slowly. She would need to talk to him..

As her hand pushed down on the handle, Serena paused. Through the small gap in the door, she could hear Aiden’s voice, low and cold. Curious and hesitant, she froze, listening.

"I don’t care what excuses you have," Aiden’s voice was sharp, almost cutting. "A breach of contract is a breach of contract. If you think there won’t be serious repercussions for this, you’re mistaken."

"But, sir, I didn’t realize—" The other man’s sounded desperate, almost pleading.

"Realize?" Aiden’s laugh was cold, without an ounce of humor. "Ignorance won’t save you here. You signed the contract. You broke the terms. If you don’t fix this, I’ll ensure you never work in this industry again. Do I make myself clear?"

Serena hesitated, reminded of the first ti Aiden had t her. He’d been cold like this to her as well. But over ti, he’d ward up. But what was the guarantee that he would not be cold again. Yes, he was attracted to her but that was all physical... What would he do if she told him that she’d found her old lover...

No. She coulnd’t talk to him. Not without knowing more details and not without being able to guess his reaction. She stepped back and hurriedly behind the door ss she felt soone walking out. Tomorrow. She’d talk to Owen and sort things out...

anwhile, Owen, who had been standing behind the office, stepped away as he watched Serena go inside softly. He breathed a sigh of relied that she was safe and nothing had happened ot her due to his impulsiveness.

Once back ho, he quietly walked back into the bedroom and picked up the scarf that had fallen onto the floor. Quietly, he picked it up and sniffed, feeling a small smile on his face. Soon, his Rena would return to him. She’d already been told the truth.

Hugging the scarf close to his chest, he climbed onto the bed and closed her eyes. Soon, her mories would return. Grabbing her picture from the nightstand, he wrapped the scarf around it and gently caressed her face," We’ll be together soon. I am sorry for lying to you, Rena. But I dare not tell you the entire truth."

’But I will co clean about mother and father. I will tell you everything once you are back with . And I will make them apologize to you."

Carefully, he placed the picture back on the nightstand and pulled out his cell phone, opening the surveillance app on his phone. Hurriedly, he played back the video from a few hours ago and smiled in satisfaction.

Putting up the caras in this place had been the best decision possible. Now, he could see for himself how his Rena was back with him. He’d almost kissed her today.

Owen smiled—a dark, satisfied smile. He replayed the mont of near-intimacy, watching it over and over. This was exactly what he needed.

He opened his video editor and clipped the footage down to just the hug and the mont their faces drew close, stopping at the part before Serena had pulled away and run from him.

Once he had the clip ready, he attached it to a ssage and typed swiftly: "Here’s what you need. She’s still with . Now, let’s talk paynt."

Leaning back, he smirked then, feeling the rush of control and satisfaction flow through him. Now he’d like to see what that man did. He had the gall to refuse to pay him last ti, didn’t he? He’d even sent the goons and investigators after him.

Owen’s phone buzzed, breaking his thoughts, He picked it up, eyes glinting with anticipation as he saw the incoming ssage.

"Paynt received. Two million dollars have been transferred to your account. Let’s et and discuss further. I want to see Serena."

Owen’s smile widened. He opened his banking app to confirm the transaction, his eyes flickering over the balance as it updated with the new funds. Good. This would do... for now. He turned to Serena’s picture again, "Don’t worry. I will see you to see him again. But first, let save so money for our future, Rena...my little golden goose."
