Christina’s POV

Hudson stayed with quietly all week. He never ntioned Niall or my father again, and neither did I.

Sotis, waking from nightmares, I wished my father had died in prison.

Hudson said he’d checked Genevieve’s whereabouts during my kidnapping. She was nowhere near there. But did that prove she wasn’t involved?

These questions went in circles until my head hurt I had to force myself to think of sothing else.

Soon I had a bigger concern: my pregnancy.

I seed to have every possible complication constant nausea, all-day morning sickness, bloating, no appetite, and mood swings so bad I cried at paper towel comrcials.

Soon I had no energy left to think about Niall or my father.

They moved to obstetrics and gave a private room. The doctor wanted to stay two more weeks for observation, as a precaution.

Hudson visited whenever he could get away from work. He stationed two guards outside my room, though I doubted my father would try again. Hudson’s instructions apparently didn’t ntion Genevieve, because one morning she walked right in while the guards did nothing.

I was in bed reading jewelry magazine.

"I ca to see how you’re doing," she said. "Don’t kick out."

I put the tablet down. "I’m fine. Thanks for coming. You can leave now."

Genevieve sat down. "Don’t be so rude. I brought you a fruit basket."

She looked paler and thinner than before, but her eyes blazed brighter.

"You’re pregnant." Her gaze dropped to my barely visible bump.

I placed a hand over my belly.

"That doesn’t an you’ve won," she said. "Hudson will co back to eventually."

"I want you to leave." My hand moved toward the call button for hospital staff.

"Wait! Don’t you want to know why Hudson always protects ?"

My hand stopped. That question had been bothering for months.

Genevieve leaned forward, smirking. "My brother died saving Hudson. He promised to take care of ."

"I want you to know that whatever happens, Hudson will never hurt . He keeps his promises."

I scoffed. "That doesn’t an he’ll choose you."

"Maybe he will, maybe he won’t. Honestly, I don’t even like him much. But I’ll get him. I’ll be Luna of the Sabreridge pack. His money, territory, assets... everything will be mine eventually."

"So you just want his status and money," I said flatly.

She smiled, showing perfect teeth. "Now you get it."

"You won’t win."

"Just watch ." She said the last sentence with such venom that I believed her. Not that Hudson actually owed her anything, but she clearly believed she was entitled.

I blurted out, "Were you behind the kidnapping?"

"Didn’t Niall admit to that? He and your father planned it all, according to Hudson."

Hudson told her? The thought made sick.

"Maybe I was involved, maybe not," she said smugly. "But you’ll never be sure."

I took a deep breath. "Leave."

I placed a protective hand on my stomach.

The movent seed to set Genevieve off. "Hudson is mine. Christina, get out of the picture before you get hurt. Really hurt. But now you’re pregnant. Be extra careful. Next ti it might not just be you in danger, but the baby too."

Let rip her throat out, Akira snarled, rage flooding through .

I slowly stood up, scanning the bedside table until I spotted the fruit knife.

I grabbed the knife and pressed the cold blade to her neck. "Genevieve, don’t confuse my restraint with weakness. You can’t push around anymore."

Her eyes went wide with panic.

She squeaked, "If you hurt , Hudson will never forgive you!"

I whispered, "Shall we test that?"

I demanded coldly, "Tell the truth!"

She hissed back, "Never!"

I pressed a little harder, and the blade cut the skin behind her ear. Blood welled up.

"Start talking or the next cut goes across your face."

"You... you bitch!" voice trembling. "You wouldn’t dare!"

I laughed lightly. "Do you want to find out?" though my eyes were ice-cold.

"No, please, don’t!" She shook uncontrollably. "I’m sorry! I’ll talk! Just let go!"

I glanced toward the door just as I caught a familiar scent. Mint and sandalwood. I pushed Genevieve away and tossed the knife in the trash.

Once free, Genevieve grabbed a chair and swung it at .

The heavy chair hit with a loud thud, and I grunted in pain.

"Christina!" Hudson burst in and rushed to . "Are you all right?"

His eyes blazed with murderous fury.

I could have avoided the chair, but when I slled Hudson’s scent, I changed my plan. I wanted to see if he’d still defend her after watching her try to hurt and our baby.

"Call a doctor!" Hudson barked at the guards.

I shook my head. "No, it’s fine."

I stood up. The chair hit my shoulder and it stung, but it wasn’t serious.

"Genevieve, what the hell is wrong with you?" Hudson’s voice was a dangerous growl.

"Hudson, she started it! She cut with a knife! Look at my neck!"

Hudson didn’t even look at her. "I don’t care. You hurt her."

"She hurt first! Can’t I defend myself? Hudson, why are you blaming ?" Genevieve whined.

"I told you to stay away from her!"

Then she sobbed harder, playing up the drama. "Fine! If you don’t want here, I’ll go!"

She grabbed her bag and shot a hateful look before storming out.

The door slamd, leaving sudden silence.

Hudson checked over. "Are you all right?"

I composed myself. "I’m fine."
