Luo Yue sent a ssage that the sa man who claid Shentu Jing had killed his parents wanted to et with him.
Shentu Jing looked over his shoulder to see Shentu Mingye and Jiang Zhaoling arguing.
"So what? You should go see a plastic surgeon," Jiang Zhaoling said sarcastically.
"You’re the one who should see a plastic surgeon to fix that peanut brain of yours, stupid Barbie!" Shentu Mingye retorted.
Shentu Mingye wouldn’t stop lanting. So random girl had punched him in the face, and it humiliated him greatly. This was a first for him.
Shentu Jing pinched the space between his brows. This could go on forever. He walked past them and took his coat off the wall.
"Butler!" he called, and an elderly man ca into sight.
"Young Master, is there anything I can do for you?" the butler asked politely.
"Look after your little master and Miss Jiang. I’m afraid they’ll break sothing again," Shentu Jing said.
"Yes, sir. You can count on ," the butler nodded. Shentu Jing left the mansion at ease, knowing he could count on the old butler to break up any potential fight between the cousins.
Luo Yue sent a ssage that the man wanted to et him in a café downtown. Shentu Jing agreed.
"Drive to this address," he said to the chauffeur. He didn’t ask Luo Yue or Han Juexian to drive because he had assigned them other tasks.
Soon, they were parked in front of the café, a small white building nestled among other shops and a nearby mall. Shentu Jing crossed the grass separating the car park and entered the café. He looked around and saw the man sitting near the window, stirring a cup of coffee mindlessly.
The man wasn’t even looking at the coffee. Instead, he was gazing out the window as if sothing interesting had captured his attention.
Shentu Jing approached the table and sat down, bringing with him an air of elegance and sophistication.
"You must be the man who claid I killed his parents?" Shentu Jing’s tone was businesslike.
The man turned to face him and smiled warmly. He had dark hair and eyes, wore an expensive suit that was impeccably ironed, and had a tan skin tone. He looked to be no more than in his mid-twenties.
He may have appeared friendly, but Shentu Jing knew all too well how people could be. They might seem like rabbits on the surface but were wolves underneath.
"Yes, I am the one who contacted your Mr. Luo Yue," the man said with a smile.
"He is not my Mr. Luo Yue. He is simply my assistant working under a contract with ," Shentu Jing replied. From the man’s words, it seed like he was implying that Shentu Jing had a personal relationship with Luo Yue, trying to irk him.
"I see. By the way, you can address as Qiao ShenJi," the man said, offering Shentu Jing a hand to shake.
Shentu Jing took his hand and shook it firmly, squeezing hard. Qiao ShenJi squeezed back, all the while smiling as if they were two friends eting after many years apart.
"A mber of the Qiao family. You belong to my eldest brother’s fiancée’s family. I see why you claid I took the lives of your parents. You’re trying to create a rift between the two families," Shentu Jing said.
Even if Qiao ShenJi hadn’t done anything, the two families weren’t friendly with one another, and an inevitable conflict was brewing. Yes, Shentu Chu’s fiancée was Qiao Nian. This arrangent had been made by Old Master Shentu when they were babies. However, Shentu Jing suspected sothing else.
Why would Grandpa marry his grandson off to his enemy?
Shentu Jing and Qiao ShenJi withdrew their hands. Qiao ShenJi shook his hand to ease the pain. Shentu Jing’s grip was too strong!
"Quite a handshake there," Qiao ShenJi remarked, still smiling. Shentu Jing showed no reaction. It was obvious who was stronger.
"My parents didn’t go by the na Qiao. For your information, I can be considered a matrilocal husband. I married a Qiao woman and took her surna rather than her taking mine. Funny, isn’t it? Everyone sees as a joke. Can you imagine how much of a joker I am?" Qiao ShenJi said it so casually that Shentu Jing thought, Hey, maybe this man isn’t so bad after all.
If it weren’t for the conflicts between the two families, they could have been friends. He liked Qiao ShenJi’s sunny attitude toward hardships.
"I see you as a potential business rival—or rather, a determined person who takes the initiative to get up and do sothing. Though I have no recollection of killing anyone, I think I ought to know your parents’ surna," Shentu Jing said, amused by Qiao ShenJi’s perspective.
A matrilocal husband was often looked down upon by society. People usually assud such a husband would live off his wife and run to her for protection or money.
Qiao ShenJi broke into a chuckle. "Thank you for thinking highly of . I could never participate in any business activities," he said, suddenly sounding sad.
"Why? Does your family forbid you?" Shentu Jing was curious about him. He had never heard of such a strange arrangent, especially in today’s modern society.
"Yes, they made sign an agreent to never interfere with the Qiao family’s business. Only my wife is allowed to manage her part of the business. Well, I used to go by the surna Liu. I heard that you, Shentu Jing, were once involved in a car accident that took the lives of many people ten years ago. Do you have no mory of that?" Qiao ShenJi said, pursing his lips. His eyes glittered in the sunlight.
"No, I don’t. I can’t rember clearly. But I’ll ask my assistant to look into it," Shentu Jing answered.
He was telling the truth. He didn’t rember much about what had happened ten years ago. He knew about the accident, but he didn’t dare to dwell on it. It haunted him every night.
He wondered if Qiao ShenJi had been sent by the Qiao family to pin the bla on him.
