"Uh..." Qiao Nian quickly racked her brains for an excuse. "I saw it on the news,"
"Oh," Shentu Chu replied and continued to walked. Qiao Nian had to jog behind him to keep up with him.
After a while, Shentu Chu stopped and turned around.
"Why are you following ?" His tone was strict.
"I....I have no money," she looked down, pouted her light pink lips with a hint of sadness in her eyes.
"Sigh.... What happened to your money? Don’t you have a phone?"
She could sense the annoyance in his voice. Qiao Nian raised her chin and t his eyes.
"My sister tricked and took away my phone. So I have nothing on now," it was very embarrassing. How could she get tricked so easily by Qiao Tong, her half sister?
He gave her a deep and profound stare. Qiao Nian suddenly felt uncomfortable under his scrutiny. Then Shentu Chu snapped his fingers.
"How do I address you?"
"What?" She looked him confusedly.
"What’s your na?" He rephrased his question.
"Uh... Qia... Nian?" She stuttered. She didn’t ntion her surna, afraid that he might find out her real identity.
Luckily, he didn’t hear the first word she said or he might suspect sothing. Qiao Nian looked at him uneasily, a little nervous because she was finally in front of her fiancé.
The fiancé that was rumoured to be a big pervert and heavy drinker with a crooked nose and twisted face.
"Just Nian?"
She nodded vigorously, looking like a little bunny.
"Then I’ll call you Nian Nian," he smiled
Nian Nian?
Qiao Nian felt like sohow splashed sugar water over her.
"Do you rember your parents’ phone number? I can help call them for you,"
"It’s better not to," Qiao Nian’s pupils flashed with emotions. Shentu Chu didn’t question her further.
"Then you can walk ho yourself?" Shentu Chu looked like he was eager to get rid of her.
Asking a girl to walk ho alone when the skies are getting dark... the weather turning chillier..... in dark alleys... Qiao Nian shuddered.
"I don’t know the way," she looked up at Shentu Chu, a soft but faraway look in her eyes.
Shentu Chu: "..."
"Fine. You can follow . But do not bother for trivial things. Understand?" He warned her, pointing a finger at her forehead.
Qiao Nian nodded obediently like a puppy.
"Good," he patted her head.
I’ve just picked up a stray. What a nice way to start my day, Shentu Chu sighed inwardly.
Qiao Nian wanted to move her head away but she didn’t.
She followed Shentu Chu who walked around until they ca out of Bei Long District and into a foodie street.
Shentu Chu saw her tongue unconsciously licking her lips, and she was looking at so tanghulu.
"Want so?" He pointed to so tanghulu.
Qiao Nian didn’t want to bother him so she shook her head. But her tummy betrayed her at this mont.
A chuckle was heard.
"You’re really a stray I picked up," Shentu Chu teased her. Then he proceeded to buy a tanghulu and handed it to the girl who happily took it and bit into it.
"Mmmm! Thanks!"
Not long later, Shentu Chu ended up buying lunch for the both of them.
"You don’t seem close with your parents or siblings," he said.
They were sitting at an outdoor restaurant eating so hot dishes.
"It’s like that. I was separated from them since young do naturally we are estranged. It’s enough to have my grandpa’s love and care," Qiao Nian looked excitedly at the food.
As the daughter of the Qiao family, she lived what others called a perfect life, sheltered from anything, eating the best of the best. But in reality, it was more like a cage for her.
There were so many restrictions and scheming people in the household. Qiao Nian had to be wary at every second every minute. Even the food prepared by her own mother, she didn’t dare to simply eat.
"Why did you believe at the shop earlier?" Qiao Nian asked, picking so veggies with her chopsticks.
She also didn’t know that Shentu Chu was quite familiar with type of lifestyle. Didn’t they say that he liked to dine like an emperor?
"Because of your eyes," he replied.
"Huh?" The girl was confused again.
"Just eat your food," he didn’t explain further and put so dishes into her bowl.
"I can’t eat so much," Qiao Nian looked hopelessly as Shentu Chu stuffed her bowl with lots of dishes, at, veggies, carrots, and even fish which he ticulously plucked out the bones.
"Why?"
"I’ll beco fat,"
"Fat girls are cute,"
Qiao Nian patted her cheeks.
Although she was thin, her face naturally had so baby fat. Her classmates used to taunt her that her face was so fat so she tried to slim down.
"I’m fat?"
"No,"
"Then what do you an?"
"I ant you are cute,"
When he said those words, Qiao Nian’s little heart beat faster. She chewed the insides of her cheeks, eyelashes fluttering nervously.
"Don’t worry about it. I think you’re too thin," Shentu Chu pushed the plates towards her.
Qiao Nian only nodded shyly, thinking that sothing about Shentu Chu doesn’t add up like the rumours online said.
Usually, Shentu Chu have never eaten or ordered much. But because of her presence, he decided to her her try the food of the common people.
After eating, they walked the streets side by side. By now, Qiao Nian had beco more relaxed with Shentu Chu.
"Um... Do you usually eat here? I thought you should be in a..." Qiao Nian wanted to probe for more information about her fiancé.
"A fancy restaurant?" He laughed a little, stuffing his hands into his pockets.
"I prefer the foods here. They taste more vibrant,"
They walked and walked until Qiao Nian saw a neon signboard up ahead. Written on the signboard in slanted words were ’Spice and Fun Nightclub’.
A nightclub?!!!
