Tina closed her eyes, a gentle smile flickering across her face like a hologram, as mories of her past relationship with the only man she had ever truly loved flashed before her eyes.
"Once upon a ti, I was the luckiest girl in the city. I had a boyfriend who loved , a kind-hearted future mother-in-law who worshipped and a thriving career in the movie industry. Money was never a problem because aside from my wealthy parents catering for all my needs, my boyfriend was fond of spoiling silly with only the best of the best. My life was like a roller coaster filled with different adventures and excitent until one day when everything changed." Tina opened her eyes, a deep sigh escaping her lips.
"Here it cos." Kayla sang in a thrilled voice, her eyes glistening with anticipation just like everyone else on the table.
"I got a call from one of the top movie directors abroad, who wanted to take a lead role in his upcoming movie."
"Wow... Isn't that supposed to be a good thing?" Nicole interrupted Tina earning herself a nasty glare from her friends.
"Stop interrupting her and let's get the juice of the story." Kayla scolded playfully before asking Tina to continue.
"This was like a dream co true for as a local actor. So I wasted no ti saying yes to the director and signing a contract which was sent to my email. I also quickly processed my flight ticket because I was to leave the country the next day. When I went over to my boyfriend's ho to break the good news to him, I was t with a surprise party and an engagent ring..."
Muffled gasps escaped everyone's lips on the table but no one interrupted Tina as she kept on talking.
"He was going to propose to before his mother and a few of our friends. When he asked to marry him, all I wanted to say was yes. I an which lady in their right senses would want to turn down such a gorgeous man and a beautiful diamond ring? But then I rembered a clause in the contract which says that I'll have to be single to act that role and the movie was going to take three years to produce."
"That is one evil contract." Stacy couldn't help keeping quiet anymore.
"I totally agree." Nicole concurred.
"Guys, let's allow Tina to finish her beautifully sad story before we air our opinions." Kayla pleaded.
"Sorry, sweetheart. Please continue." Stacy said as she gestured zipping her lips.
"To my disappointnt, my boyfriend kicked against the idea of travelling abroad. He claid the director was a fraud and a womaniser. And he also promised to find a better deal. Instead of listening to his passionate appeal and reasoning, I got angry and said a lot of hurtful words to him. Without giving him a reply to his proposal, I walked out of the house and the next day I took a flight out of the country without taking his calls or those of his mom." Tina broke down in tears.
"Ugh! Don't cry..." Alia pulled Tina into her warm embrace, doing her best to soothe her, while others joined in encouraging her.
"Do we get to hear the ending of the story?" Kayla whispered animatedly causing everyone, including Tina to burst into laughter.
"To cut the long story short, I found out in the most painful way that my boyfriend was telling the truth and it was too late for to co back because of the damn contract I signed. Although I got my wish and beca one of the top female international actors in the industry, I lost a good man."
"Such a heartbreaking story." Adriana sighed. "But did you ever reach out to your boyfriend and ask for forgiveness."
"I tried." Tina smiled bitterly. "But I discovered he had barred my line and blocked on all his social dia accounts."
"Probably he still feeling hurt." Alia pointed out.
"I would definitely be hurt if I were in his shoes," Joana said, amazed at her friend's foolishness.
"Yeah." Nicole nodded her head. "Especially if that f**king director had his way with you."
"Did he?" Kayla winked at Tina.
"Kayla!" Alia shot the latter a disdainful stare.
"What! It's just us, girls. No one here amongst us is a virgin except..." Kayla allowed her words to trail as all eyes followed her gaze, stopping at Alia.
"Kayla..." Alia's cheeks flushed with embarrassnt.
"Amy, you seriously need to get laid because you're missing out on all the fun. If you want I can arrange a hot sexy dude for you. I promise you going to love it." Joana stifled a chuckle as Alia's cheeks got redder.
"Thanks, I'll pass." Alia rolled her eyes, turning her attention back to Tina. "So, do you know if your boyfriend has married so other girl?" She asked, taking a sip of her orange cocktail.
"No..." A bright and hopeful smile spread across Tina's lips.
"You see I've been secretly following up on him. Yesterday I ran into his cousin at a restaurant and he confird to that my boyfriend is still single and hasn't gotten over ." She lied about the last statent.
"Wow! That's great." Alia exclaid.
"This is like a second chance at love." Kayla bead.
"I think you should go after him quickly before another lady steals him from you," Nicole suggested.
"Yeah!" Everyone on the table concurred.
"I'm already on it." Tina felt so much lighter and happy after pouring out her heart to her new set of friends. "And this ti around I have no plans of letting him go. I will do everything within my power to have him put that ring on my finger."
"Sounds like a perfect plan." Adriana clapped her hands.
"Let's all make a toast," Joanna said raising her glass of champagne in the air.
"To Alia..."
Alia, whose glass was in the air, eyed Joana, making the latter giggle. "I hope you find love at the hands of a man who is truly deserving and hot as hell."
"Thank you." Alia smiled blowing kisses to Joana.
"And to our newest friend, Tina. I hope you get your man back and this ti love him unconditionally. Cheers!"
"Cheers!" All the ladies on the table happily clinked their glasses, beaming and laughing happily until a man in a black suit approached their table.
