Alia's sudden emotional breakdown took Henry and Maria by surprise.
While Henry stood up and ca before her, ready to lend a shoulder to cry on, Maria pulled Alia into her loving embrace, stroking her back.
"Oh, my child, please don't cry." Maria's voice quivered as she tried to hold back her own tears.
"Amy, tell who offended you and I will personally deal with that person." Henry's tone was filled with unhinged rage and hurt.
Alia just shook her head in response, words failing her at the mont.
"Shh... sweetheart. You know you're all I have right now. You are my strength and if you break down, I won't be able to carry on." Maria kissed Alia on the centre of her head, tears streaming down her face.
"I'm sorry, mum." Alia hiccuped, her body trembling. "I'm trying to be strong but everything seems to be going wrong around . I feel like I'm cursed."
"No, my child. Don't say such an awful thing. You are not cursed." Maria's reprimanded softly.
"This is just a temporary setback just like you used to say. It won't last forever. Nothing does. It will fizzle out eventually."
"But what if it doesn't, mum?" Alia lifted her head to look into Maria's moist eyes. "What if it gets worse? What if everything, I have worked and fought against cos crashing down on ? I'm trying my best to remain strong be life keeps dealing unfair punches at . I'm tired, mum. I'm tired of losing. I just want a break from all of this heartache. I want everything to go back to normal."
"It will." Maria pulled Alia back into her arms while wiping her tears with her thumb. "It will, my child. We just have to remain hopeful and strong."
Henry was completely weakened by Alia's words and Maria's tears. He could tell sothing new was bothering her. He hated seeing them cry or feeling this hopeless. But he also knew they were bottling up a lot of emotions that needed to be released.
Giving them so space to express their feelings, he slowly moved away from them, while dialling an international number on his phone.
"I miss him," Alia whispered after a while of silence and sniffles. "I miss him so much that my tummy hurts. I wish I could see him. I wish he could hold and tell everything is going to be fine."
" too." Maria rested her chin on Alia's head. "I know he misses you too."
Just then, Henry approached both won holding his phone out.
"Amy, soone wants to talk to you."
Alia lifted her head away from Maria's chest.
"Who?" She croaked, her voice very faint.
"Your husband."
Alia's eyes brightened up a little as she asked, "Blaze..." While reaching out to collect the phone from Henry, who simply nodded, a smile spread across his curled lips.
Wiping her face with the back of her hand and clearing her voice, Alia slowly brought the phone to her right ear and said,
"Bkaze..."
"My love..."
Blaze's tender and soothing deep husky voice made Alia burst out in tears afresh. She stood up and walked away from Maria and Henry to talk privately with him.
Maria frowned, knowing exactly how Alia was feeling. It reminded her of the ti her husband slumped and was rushed to the hospital. No one understood the pain she was going through except her.
But in Alia's case, it seed worse because she was with a child and her hormones were suffocating her.
"She'll be fine Mom." Henry ca to sit next to Maria, placing his arm across her shoulder.
"I know she will." Maria leaned her head on Henry's shoulder. "Blaze will soon co back ho and take away all her pains."
"Yes, he will."
"I need you to do a favour, Henry." Maria's voice turned all cold and hoarse. "Find out who offended my daughter-in-law? I won't have anyone ss with her while I'm still alive."
"Okay, mum."
"Go now." Maria freed herself from Henry's tender hold.
"Right after I get my phone from Alia." Henry pointed out and Maria nodded.
Standing behind a trimd bush of wild red flowers, Alia listened as Blaze did everything within his power to console her.
"I want to see you, Blaze. Even if it's just for a minute, I want to see you and hold you in my arms. I really miss you and this distance is killing slowly. Please, let co over. I'll be extrely careful."
"Okay," Blaze replied from the other end of the phone with a long sigh.
"Okay?!" Alia's eyes brightened.
"Yes. I'll speak to the chief warden over here and make the necessary arrangents. When a date is fixed, I'll communicate to you."
"Thank you, my love."
"I should be the one saying thank you for not giving up on . I love you so much."
"I love you more." Alia's shimring eyes glimred like a starry night.
"Now tell , who pissed you off?"
"It's my dad and Gwen."
Alia gave Blaze a summarised version of her visit to the prison, the cetery and her confrontation with her father.
"I can't believe your dad is falling for that crap." Blaze's voice was laced with fury as he spoke.
" too." Alia lanted, the crease on her forehead deepening.
"I can't believe he's willing to forget everything those people did to and our family. I hate the fate that an innocent child had to suffer for this. I even tried to tell him about the affair but he doesn't want to listen to anything I have to say. He thinks I'm making things up. He didn't say it but he feels I'm responsible for Gwen's miscarriage."
"Now that is the kind of thing that pisses off about your father." Blaze's voice was livid with anger.
Alia smiled bitterly.
"Dad can be stubborn at tis. I wish he could trust on this issue. His good heart is going to betray him. He is going to make a far more grievous mistake if he allows those people back into his life. Even my Nana is begging to forgive them and set them free. If I don't, they will all see as an evil person with a heart made of stone. I feel so angry and helpless right now because I don't want to lose my father or even my Nana to those people."
"Don't worry, my love. I'll handle this. I'll make your father and Nana see the truth. Go along with your father's decision. It will be in our favour when your uncles finally regain their freedom. By the ti I'm through dealing with them for crossing , they will wish they never left their prison cell in the first place."
"Crossing, you!" Alia raise a brow. "What are you trying to say?"
"We will talk more when we see in person, sweetheart. In the anti, can I say hi to my mom before the call ends?"
Alia smiles returned at the thought of seeing Blaze after more than two months.
"Sure."
