The chief warden sighed, knowing this wasn't going to be easy to digest.
"Senator, before I explain what happened to your daughter, I need you to understand that we deal with a lot of irrational pregnant inmates in here. Most of these won never bargained to be pregnant in the first place. They see their pregnancy as an impedint rather than a gift."
The chief warden paused, catching her breath.
"Although we try to counsel our pregnant inmates regularly, there have been a lot of incidences, where so of them try to terminate their pregnancy by consuming abortion pills. But in the case of Mrs Morgan, I'm still a little confused because I always thought she wanted it."
"What are you trying to say, warden?" The crease on the senator's forehead deepened.
"According to the doctor who attended to your daughter, she ingested so harmful drugs which are detrintal to her pregnancy.
The senator's gaze shifted from the chief warden to Gwen, his widened eyes laced with confusion and disbelief.
"What harmful drugs are you talking about? Cocaine!"
"Oh no senator." The chief warden frowned. "We do not allow any form of hard drugs in here. I was simply referring to abortion pills."
Just then, the doctor who was initially attending to Gwen, entered the infirmary to check on another inmate patient.
"Aha! Doctor Stephan, please, I need your attention over here." The warden called out and the mature doctor walked up to them, with a polite smile framing his lips.
"Please, can you explain to the senator more about the drugs Mrs Morgan consud?"
"Certainly, chief." Dr Stephan turned to the senator. "Good day senator, you're welco."
"Mm-hmm..."
"Your daughter took a combination of two powerful synthetic dications known as mifepristone and misoprostol. While mifepristone works by blocking the effects of the hormone needed to maintain a healthy pregnancy, misoprostol results in the end of the pregnancy. In simple terms, your daughter has just successfully terminated her pregnancy."
"What!" Senator Gregory's widened eyes glared at Gwen's protruded stomach. "Impossible! Gwen would never do such a thing. Moreover, she still looks very pregnant to ."
"Sir, I know this is hard to take in. But this is the unfortunate truth. Her stomach is still protruding because we are yet to evacuate the pregnancy which will be done in a few hours at the theater. I'm very sorry."
"Thank you, Dr Stephan." The chief warden signalled the doctor to carry on with his activity while she attended to the distraught father.
"How can you let this happen?" Senator Gregory demanded between clenched jaws. "What kind of circus do you people run here that a pregnant woman can ingest any harmful drug under your watch."
"Senator, please let's talk in my office and not here." The chief warden pleaded, gesturing towards the door.
Senator Gregory was about to lash out openly at her when he noticed that the nurses and inmate patients who were awake were all staring at him.
"Lead the way."
When they were finally inside her office, the chief warden began to plead with the enraged father."
"Senator, I am truly sorry for what happened to your daughter. I take full responsibility for our negligence. But please you need to understand that most of these inmates have beco exceptional at concealing these pills. But in Mrs Morgan's case, I find it quite strange because she seed pretty excited about her pregnancy."
"Exactly!" Senator Gregory exclaid in a repressed voice. "My daughter has never for one's thought about terminating this pregnancy. Sothing must have triggered her to take those harmful pills."
The chief warden thought briefly before responding.
"Mrs Morgan was pretty upset after chatting with her sister."
"Her sister?! Alia!" The senator was taken aback.
"Yes, senator. A few hours before the incident, Mrs Morgan was visited by Mrs Alia Anderson. I think they both had a fallout during their discussion. Mrs Morgan was really distressed and agitated after Mrs Anderson left. We had to temporarily sedate her to help her relax. No one knew when she took those pills. But you can be rest assured that it wasn't injected into her by anyone. She consud it orally."
The majority of what the chief warden said barely registered in the senator's mind as his thoughts were preoccupied with so many unanswered questions.
Why did Alia visit her sister all of a sudden?
What could she have said to Gwen to push her into taking those pills?
Did she threaten her?
But with what?
Is there sothing she hasn't told him yet?
Different questions clamoured for attention in the senator's mind.
Suddenly he stood up and thanked the chief warden for the prompt information.
"Let know when my daughter finally regains consciousness. I would like to speak with her."
"That wouldn't be a problem, sir. You can co back tomorrow sa ti. By then, the whole evacuation process should be concluded and Mrs Gwen would be able to see you."
"Okay." The senator thanked the chief warden again and left.

It had been over an hour and thirty minutes since Alia got her father's ssage, informing her that he was urgently needed at that female correctional facility.
Alia couldn't help but wonder if this was Gwen's move of trying to either play smart or confess her cri. She decided that whatever the case, she would expose Matt and Regina's treachery to her father once and for all.
After waiting for her father for another twenty minutes with no call, Alia was about to pack up and leave when she received a ssage from her father informing her that he was close to the cetery.
Within a space of five minutes, Senator Gregory was standing beside his first daughter, trying to remain composed as he paid his respects to his late wife.
Both father and daughter observed so minutes of silence in front of Fiona's tomb before making their way to a large oak tree within the cetery and taking a seat on the blanket under the tree shade.
"So how are you holding up with Blaze and all?" Senator Gregory asked, observing his daughter's slightly depressed mood.
"I'm taking one day at a ti, Dad." Alia exhaled, releasing a sigh.
"Have you spoken to Blaze recently?"
Alia nodded, her expression lancholic. "Three days ago. He doesn't want to co visit and I understand his reasons."
"Don't worry, my dear. We will soon find out who those perpetrators are and make them pay for what they have done." Senator Gregory reassured his daughter with a convincing smile.
"Sure. Dad..." Alia shifted closer to her father, taking his right hand into his. "...there is sothing you should know."
"Okay..." The Senator stroked his daughter's hand in his, thinking she was about to talk about her visit to the female correctional centre and why. "... I'm all ears."
"It's about Uncle Matt, Regina and Gwen's paternity."
Senator Gregory's head furrowed, "What about them?"
"I wanted to tell you this before their trial. But I was afraid for your health. Nevertheless, I think the truth has been delayed for far too long. I don't want you to make any more mistakes like you did in the past by welcoming them into your life again."
"Just tell and do away with the suspense."
Alia observed the impatience and slight coldness in her father's gaze. She thought about asking him what was wrong but decided to just spill the beans.
"Regina is Matt's mistress. They have been having an affair for a long ti, way before you t her. This affair resulted in Gwen which they pinned on you to ruin your relationship with mom. Gwen is not your daughter, but Matt's illegitimate ..."
"Enough of that rubbish, Alia."
