"Oh my goodness! Of course, you are not. You are a fully grown woman." Dr Venessa scanned Alia from head to toe, tears pulling in her eyes as she recalled the loss of a dear friend.
"Yes, I'm." Alia chuckled amid tears.
"I know this is unprofessional." Dr Vanessa's eyes shifted to Blaze as if seeking his approval. "But, can I hug you?"
Blaze give her a curt nod without saying anything.
"Certainly." Alia nodded as she took two steps closer.
Both won embraced each other warmly leaving Blaze slightly lost.
"I'm so sorry about your mother. I couldn't bring myself to accept the fact that she left us so early."
"It's okay. That is in the past now." Alia pulled away, wiping her tears with the back of her hand while ushering the doctor back to her seat.
Blaze stood still for a mont, marvelling at his stroke of luck. He had no idea Alia would know the doctor when he was busy doing his research earlier. This simply ant a big win for him, at winning his wife's heart back.
"So, what brought you here?" Alia asked after they were both done exchanging pleasantries and catching up on old tis.
"Oh...your husband invited over. He was just telling about your pregnancy so far and so of the challenges you have encountered. He wants to take charge and ensure you have a blissful pregnancy journey. I hope you wouldn't mind being your doctor from henceforth."
"Are you kidding ? Of course not. I wouldn't have asked for a better choice." Alia replied beaming, sparing Blaze a brief appreciative glance.
Blaze's heart skipped a bit at the insignificant but captivating stare. It rendered him speechless for a few seconds, making him feel like a bird gliding in the wind.
He just sat there watching the exchange between the doctor and Alia without interfering while giving himself a pat on the back for a job well done.
"This is excellent, news." Dr Vanessa clasped her hands excitedly. "That ans I'll be seeing you at my private clinic, tomorrow to have you registered for your antenatal care."
"Okay! I can't wait." Alia's shimring eyes glimred like a child who just received her favourite ice cream.
"Let not keep you waiting." Dr Vanessa stood up. "Your husband said you both need to be sowhere this morning."
"Oh yes. Thank you for coming Dr Vanessa. It was such a pleasure having you in our ho." Alia stood up and embraced her again.
"The pleasure is all mine."
"Thanks for honouring my invitation, doctor Venessa. Do have an amazing day."
"You too, Mr Anderson. Please take care of your wife for and have an amazing day."
"I will."
Alia walked Doctor Vanessa to the door before shutting it behind her. She turned to face her husband who had already left his desk to join her, her eyes brimming with accusation.
"First you cook breakfast, and then you give a rose with a captivating note. And now this. Are you trying to bribe , dear husband? Because this isn't part of what we agreed."
"No, I'm not trying to bribe you," Blaze said in a smooth silky voice that was dripping with so much affection. "I'm just trying to do what is right for my pregnant wife."
"By researching about my past and bringing a doctor friend ho to persuade ." Alia raised her brows accusingly at him, heat curling up her spine at the closeness between them.
"Your past. Why would I want to dig into your past? Shouldn't I be interested in your present and future?" Blaze replied to her question with a question, the side of his lips curled up in a smirk.
"Then how did you know that Dr Vanessa was my late mom's gynecologist," Alia asked eyeing him.
"To be honest, I didn't know. I was just looking for the best gynecologist to attend to my pregnant wife. I made so calls, did my research and everything pointed to her." Blaze explained while drinking in his wife's glowing morning beauty, wishing he could lean forward and kiss her.
"Anyway, thanks. It was really thoughtful of you." Alia patted him lightly on the chest and quickly retrieved her hand as if she had touched hot coal.
"You're welco."
"We should get going. Let's not keep Aunt Vera and Eugene waiting." Alia quickly turned away, to hide her flushed face.
Umm...babe, wait." Blaze held her on the wrist. But withdrew his hand when she titled her head backwards, eyeing his firm grip.
"I'm sorry. I was going to tell you that I called Vera earlier informing her that we would be coming a bit late."
"Late! Why?" Alia raised her brow while unconsciously stroking where Blaze had earlier held onto her.
"I was thinking we should visit your dad first."
The smile on Alia's face slowly faded.
"I... I don't think that's a good idea. I don't know if my father wants to see you." She turned her face sideways to hide the lingering hurt in her eyes.
"I spoke to him earlier and he said I could co."
"You spoke to him?" Alia's eyes shut up.
"Yes."
"And he said you could co."
Blaze nodded his head.
Alia's heart started pounding.
"What do you want with him?" She asked protectively, uncomfortable with the idea.
"I already apologized to him over the phone for what I did. But I wanted to do it face-to-face. I want to make things right but I can't do that without your permission."
"I don't know." Alia sighed, massaging her forehead. "Give a minute while I speak to him over the phone." She excused herself and left the office.
A few minutes later, she called Blaze over the phone and said she was ready to go.
The ride down to the hospital was uneventful as Alia mostly kept to herself, except for a few occasional remarks.
When they arrived at the senator's hospital room, they found him in a very jovial mood chatting away freely with a young nurse.
They all exchanged warm greetings before the nurse excused them after ensuring her patient her taken all his oral dication.
Alia and her father spoke for a while while Blaze sat quietly observing the father and daughter, taking note of Alia's occasional glance in his direction.
"Alright, Blaze cos closer. I want you to sit here..." The senator gestured, pointing at an empty seat by his bedside.
