"Where is Matt?" Senator Gregory demanded in a deadpan tone as Desmond hurried after him, jogging at so point to catch up with the senator's long strides.
"He is currently with the doctor at the ergency room where Jerry is been attended to?"
"Have Jerry's parents been released from the police custody?"
"No, brother."
"What the hell are you people waiting for?" The Senator paused at the hospital entrance, snapping his head sideways to glare at his brother.
"I...I was...umm... planning to call.... umm..." Desmond's uncoordinated behaviour and stuttering further pissed the senator.
"Speak and don't wait my ti, goddamnit." The Senator bood, scaring the old security man standing by the hospital entrance door.
"Matt... He's the one in charge...o...o...of everything."
"Then lead the way." The senator let out a frustrated sigh as Desmond hurried forward.
As the senator and his entourage made their way through the hospital lobby towards the ergency departnt, they beca the centre of attraction to both patients and hospital staff who marvelled at the presence of a governnt VIP in their midst.
Inside the ergency room, the doctor was speaking in a low voice to Matt, who was looking stressed out and horrified by the turnout of the event.
Prior to this very mont, Matt had been daydreaming of all the possible negative things he would do to Jerry for his deception, betrayal and his younger brother's assault on Gwen. Maybe beating him up severely and threatening him with death was all he planned on doing.
Never in his wildest dream did he envision sothing as animalistic and sick as all the things done to Jerry's body.
"Which of the Mafia group did Jerry offend?" Matt pondered in his mind, barely listening to what the doctor was saying until the door to the room was pushed open.
Matt and everyone in the room aside from the unconscious patient turned around to see the senator and a few people walk in.
"Sir, please you can't be..."
"That is the senator you are talking to young woman and the patient you're attending to is his son-in-law. Show so respect." Matt rudely cut off the nurse, who was trying to do her job.
"I'm sorry sir." The nurse timidly lowered her head and took a few steps backwards allowing the senator passage.
Senator Gregory acknowledged Matt briefly as he stepped closer to the bed, gritting his teeth in fury. His vicious gaze slowly lted at the sight of what was left of the handso man he once knew as Jerry Morgan.
The sa handso man who had succeeded in putting his two beautiful daughters against each other with his lies. The sa man, responsible for pushing Alia to turn against the family. The sa man, indirectly responsible for Gwen's current condition.
The senator couldn't believe what was left of this impressive young man. The half-bandaged unconscious man lying on the bed and strapped to different beeping devices didn't look like Jerry a bit, making the senator question his thoughts.
"You're sure this is Jerry?" The senator asked Matt, just to clarify his doubts.
"In the flesh brother. Don't mind his disfigured bandaged face. He is still the sa man."
The senator shook his head, letting out a sigh of pity. He regretted the fact that Jerry was still legally married to Gwen. Otherwise, he wouldn't be this bothered.
"I need everyone in this room to excuse us briefly except for the doctor." Gregory gestured, impatiently. He waited briefly until Lin gave the all-clear signal, before bombarding the doctor with different questions.
"What happened to him?"
"We can't say for sure what really happened to Mr Jerry, sir. But we did treat him for, multiple stab wounds..." The doctor explained, adjusting his reading glasses on the bridge of his nose as he read from Jerry's hospital folder. "...burns, fractured bones, all ten fingers amputation, broken knee joint, crude total glossectomy, inflammation..."
"What was that last thing you said before inflammation? Glosse... what?" The senator asked, heart drumming in his ears at all the scary things the doctor was ntioning.
"Glossectomy, sir. This is the surgical amputation of the tongue and in Mr Jerry's case his whole tongue was removed surgically using crude thod."
"What!" The senator bood. "What animal would do such a thing?"
"It beats ." Matt's furrowed brows deepened.
"And I believe that animal is passing a ssage across to us," Desmond added from behind, still fidgeting. He was given a warning glare by Matt and he imdiately excused himself out of the room.
"Is he going to survive all of these?" The senator asked looking completely lost.
"Yes sir. I'm afraid to say this but whoever did this to him wanted him to live as a handicap."
"Hmm... this is unfortunate. Thank you, doctor. Please give us a second while I talk things through with my brother."
"Okay, sir."
After the doctor shut the door behind him, Senator Gregory turned to face Matt.
"What in God's na is happening, Matt?"
"I honestly don't know brother. I'm still trying to figure it out." Matt replied in all sincerity.
"Have you said anything about this to my wife yet?"
"No, I haven't." Matt lied through his teeth.
"I would like you to keep it that way. I'll personally speak to her and then Gwen once she has been discharged from the hospital."
"Okay, brother."
"Also, watch out for Desmond, I think he has resud smoking and you know what that ans."
"I don't need to be reminded, brother. I guess seeing Jerry like this took a toll on him. But you have nothing to worry about, I'll take care of him."
"What about Jerry's parents? Desmond told you haven't released them yet."
"No, I haven't."
"What are you waiting for?" Senator Gregory asked in a repressed voice. "You want things to blow out in our face before you do that? We have no excuse for keeping them locked up anymore. Jerry has been found. Please have them released imdiately."
"I'll speak to the chief of police once I leave here." Matt stifled his inner consuming rage focusing his attention on the beeping heart rate device.
"When you release them, including the younger brother." The senator stressed the last part knowing that Matt was still holding Benjamin captive for what he did to Gwen. "Inform them of Jerry's situation and have them brought over to see Jerry for themselves. With the current situation of things, we need to assure them that we do not have a hand in Jerry's condition. We cannot escalate this matter until we find out who is responsible and why they are trying to fra us, okay?"
"Sure. I'll take care of things just as I always do." Matt said, a dangerous glint flashing across his eyes as he looked up to et his brother's worried gaze.
"If you were to take a wild guess, who do you think is responsible for Jerry's condition?"
Matt scanned Jerry's bandaged face before replying.
"Based on information I've gathered, concerning who Jerry had been secretly conducting business with, this looks like the work of a drug mafia group. Jerry has been secretly laundering their money for years using his family company as a front. I believe this is one of such transaction gone wrong. Jerry knew he was in trouble that was why he disappeared without a trace. But with this set of people, nowhere is safe.
The Senator beca even more panicky at the thought of associating with drug mafias.
"Do you think they are trying to pass a ssage across like Desmond blurted out a few monts ago?"
Matt clenched his fist behind him, masking his anger under a worried expression. He thought briefly before responding.
"Let's not get our hopes high, brother. If anyone tries to threaten our family, Lin and I will take care of them."
"All right then, I'll leave you to take care of this. I've got an early schedule tomorrow plus I'll be visiting Judith later in the day to see Alia and talk so senses into her."
"I wish you good luck, brother." Matt's smile turned into a devilish grin as the senator left the room.
"If only you knew..." He let out a wicked chuckle as he dialled Regina's number.
