Chapter 98: Chapter 95: Moon-Loving Greedy Wolf

Yesterday, they had only killed one Third-level Magical Beast. They still needed to kill one hundred Second-level Magical Beasts and nine more Third-level Magical Beasts. The task was daunting. But Mu Chen didn’t wake the others, who were still in the middle of their Cultivation. Instead, in just a few steps, he leaped to the top of a large tree. He needed to see farther, to see just how vast this Demon Beast Prison was.

But after climbing to the treetop, Mu Chen was disappointed. The forest at the edge looked lush, but it was nowhere near as dense as the forest in the center. The mont he reached the top, his view was blocked by countless tall trees ahead. Helpless, Mu Chen had no choice but to drop down from the tree.

As soon as he landed, Mu Chen found eight pairs of eyes staring straight at him. After a mont’s pause, Mu Chen greeted the four of them, "Morning!"

"Morning!"

The four looked at Mu Chen blankly. Ye Shuangshuang asked, "Captain, what are you doing?"

Mu Chen rubbed his nose. "I was going to go up there and see how vast this Demon Beast Prison is, but when I got there, I discovered..."

"That the Demon Beast Prison is boundless?" Qing Lei interjected.

Mu Chen looked at everyone earnestly and said calmly, "I discovered that the nutrients here are quite abundant. The surrounding trees are all developing nicely!"

The three were utterly speechless. Ye Shuangshuang’s mouth twitched a few tis, and she let out a silly laugh. "The Captain is so witty and humorous. We are not worthy!"

"You think so? I think so too."

Amidst everyone’s disdainful gazes, Mu Chen led the four deeper into the Demon Beast Prison. Magical Beasts were more concentrated there, which increased their chances of completing the mission. Of course, the accompanying danger was also constantly increasing.

"Little Tiger, attack!"

In the dense center of the Demon Beast Prison, following a soft cry, there was a BOOM. A wave of air rippled through the sky as a huge black shadow flew out of a patch of woods, crashing hard against a small hill.

"Alright, got another one."

Little Tiger jumped joyfully beside the giant black shadow. The shadow was a huge, snake-like Magical Beast. Looking at the now-dead giant snake, Little Tiger asked curiously, "Brother Mu Chen, what kind of Magical Beast is this? It’s so strong, my hands are numb."

Four figures gradually walked out of the forest. Their clothes were clean, showing no signs of travel. They were none other than Mu Chen, Qing Lei, Mo Qing, and Ye Shuangshuang. And today was the fourth day of their trial in the Demon Beast Prison.

Glancing at the giant python, Mu Chen’s lips curved up. "This is a Three-Eyed Frenzied Python, a Third-level Magical Beast. With this, we’ve completed one-third of our mission."

Qing Lei glanced at the Three-Eyed Frenzied Python and said flatly, "The tenth Third-level Magical Beast? But the Second-level Magical Beasts..."

Ye Shuangshuang and Mo Qing also looked helpless. In these four days, they hadn’t encountered a single Second-level Magical Beast. Every beast they attracted was a Third-level Magical Beast. Once, they even ran into two Third-level Magical Beasts at the sa ti. Fortunately, Mu Chen was strong enough to take on one by himself, allowing them to successfully kill both.

Mu Chen could only remain silent in response to Qing Lei’s question, because this was simply too abnormal. How could there not be a single Second-level Magical Beast in the entire Demon Beast Prison? Taking two steps forward, Mu Chen’s Kan Realm Spiritual Power spread out rapidly, but not a single Magical Beast appeared within the range of his Spiritual Detection.

He rembered encountering this situation once before in the Demon Beast Forest. But that was because a powerful Magical Beast was successfully advancing, and all the Low-level Magical Beasts had gathered to act as its Guardian. ’Could a Magical Beast in the Demon Beast Prison be about to advance?’

Thinking of this, Mu Chen nodded to himself. Although the possibility was very small, it wasn’t zero. In these four days, aside from the first Third-level Magical Beast that attacked them on its own, the locations where the other beasts appeared were all very regular. ’Regular?’

"Wait!" Mu Chen suddenly exclaid. The four behind him were startled. Before they could complain, Mu Chen spoke first, "I finally know the reason."

Ye Shuangshuang was stunned. "What reason?"

Mu Chen smiled faintly. "The reason why we keep failing to find any Second-level Magical Beasts."

Hearing this, Mo Qing and Qing Lei both perked up. Mu Chen’s expression was calm. "In this Demon Beast Prison, another Magical Beast is about to advance."

"Advance?" the four said in unison.

Mu Chen nodded. "Mhm. Only a Magical Beast that needs to advance would summon all the Low-level Magical Beasts within its Domain to act as its Guardian. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the directions the recent Third-level Magical Beasts have co from are very regular. If you connect the location where the second Third-level Magical Beast appeared with the location of the one we just killed..."

"It seems like we’ve been getting closer and closer to the center of the Demon Beast Prison," Mo Qing said softly, her eyes lowered.

But that one sentence made everything click for the others. Ye Shuangshuang exclaid, "Are they trying to lure us into the Domain of a King-level Magical Beast?"

"You guessed it. They are trying to lure us into the Domain of a King-level Magical Beast. If that’s the case, then this advancing Magical Beast probably discovered us and has been observing us for a long ti. After determining that we would be a threat to its advancent, it began guiding us toward the very center of the Demon Beast Prison, wanting to use the King-level Magical Beast to kill us. The intelligence of this beast is truly surprising." An unusual light flashed in Mu Chen’s eyes.

The others imdiately fell silent. If that were really the case, then this Magical Beast that wanted to advance was... too terrifying.

But Mu Chen’s lips curved into a smile. "However, this was a gamble. If it had won, we might have been eliminated. But clearly, it lost. And the price for losing is that its location has now been exposed."

"Near the location where the second Third-level Magical Beast appeared!"

"Exactly. It’s hard to imagine that this Magical Beast’s way of thinking is so unique, choosing to advance so close to the outer edge. Although the risk is great, it’s also the safest thod. Who would have thought that a Magical Beast on the verge of advancing would be holed up sowhere in the outskirts of the Demon Beast Prison? I suspect that so kind of rare, intelligence-boosting plant must have grown in this Demon Beast Prison, causing so of the Magical Beasts’ intelligence to far exceed their level."

"So, should we head back now?" Qing Lei asked, looking at Mu Chen.

Mu Chen nodded. "Of course. Perhaps this ti, we’ll be able to complete the entire mission. However, by the sa token, our situation will beco extrely dangerous. After all, we only know that a Magical Beast is about to advance, but we don’t know the specifics—what level it’s advancing from or to."

Mo Qing thought for a mont and said, "I suspect the level of this advancing Magical Beast isn’t very high. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have needed to use such a thod to guide us to the central area of the Demon Beast Prison."

"Sister Mo Qing is right, it probably isn’t very high," Ye Shuangshuang said with certainty.

Little Tiger looked at Mu Chen, then at Mo Qing, and said, "Brother Mu Chen, I also think we should give it a try. Anyway, with Brother Mu Chen here, we should be pretty safe."

Hearing Little Tiger’s words, Mu Chen feigned helplessness and said, "Alright then, let’s retrace our steps."

Mo Qing giggled. "Actually, even if you all hadn’t said anything, the Captain would have definitely turned back. He understands the situation more thoroughly than any of us."

To this, Mu Chen just smiled faintly and said nothing more. The journey here, with all their stops, had taken four and a half days. Now they had to return to their starting point. Even if they traveled at full speed, it would still take nearly three days. Mu Chen was making a bet—betting that all the Second-level Magical Beasts were currently gathered around the one that was about to advance.

If he won the bet, they might be able to finish the mission in one fell swoop. If he lost, it would an they would have three fewer days to complete their mission.

Ti flew by, and three days passed quickly. In those three days, they once again didn’t encounter a single Magical Beast. They did, however, run into several groups of students, which surprised them. But among those students, who didn’t recognize Mu Chen? If not for his looks, his unique attire alone would make him unforgettable.

Most of them were in a sorry state, with tattered clothes and covered in dust. This was already the seventh day of the new student trial in the Demon Beast Prison. Students were being eliminated wave after wave. Almost every day, at every mont, countless Signal Flares would shoot into the sky. So were because of pursuit by Magical Beasts. Others, however, were due to robbery by other students.

The mont these students saw Mu Chen’s team, they would imdiately turn and flee. They knew that with Mu Chen’s Martial Master Realm, he wasn’t allowed to attack them first. But if you truly annoyed soone, and they insisted on attacking you first anyway, you’d have no recourse.

Seeing the new students fleeing as if for their lives, Ye Shuangshuang giggled from behind, "As expected of our Captain, so impressive! You didn’t even do anything and you’ve scared them into a hasty retreat. I’d say there’s an eighty percent chance we’ll complete the mission this ti..."

To this, Mu Chen could only give a wry, silent smile. Gradually, Mu Chen’s team arrived at the location where they had been attacked by the second Third-level Magical Beast. With a HUM, his Spiritual Detection spread outwards, but the result was disappointing. There wasn’t the slightest fluctuation of a Magical Beast’s Primordial Power in the surroundings.

Mu Chen was confident his deduction couldn’t be wrong. There had to be a reason why his detection wasn’t picking up any Primordial Power fluctuations. Mu Chen looked up. The sky was clear, the sun was scorching, the mountain peaks were high... ’The peaks!’

Mu Chen froze for a mont, then with a leap, he shot towards one of the mountain peaks. In just a few bounds, he was standing on a summit. His Kan Realm Spiritual Power spread out rapidly. A mont later, Mu Chen smiled. "Finally found you!"

Down below, the four quickly followed after seeing Mu Chen suddenly dash madly up a mountain peak. When they saw his smile, they knew their gamble had paid off.

"You found them?" Qing Lei asked, already knowing the answer.

Mu Chen chuckled. "I found them, alright. But the Magical Beasts this ti seem a bit overwhelming. The one that’s advancing is among them. It seems... it hasn’t successfully advanced yet, but based on the Primordial Power fluctuations, it’s not far from succeeding."

Mo Qing let out a soft breath and said, "Captain, can you detect the number and levels of the Magical Beasts inside?"

Mu Chen smiled and nodded. "I can. I just got a clear reading. There are over one hundred and thirty Second-level Magical Beasts and three Third-level Magical Beasts. There’s only one Magical Beast whose Primordial Power fluctuations are unstable, constantly wavering between Level 3 and Level 4. And one more thing you’ll never guess."

"What is it?"

"These Magical Beasts... they’re all the sa species." Mu Chen wore an expression that was hard to read as good or bad as he gazed deeply into the basin surrounded by mountain peaks. There, besides the dense forest, there seed to be countless eerie glows, vigilantly watching their surroundings.
