Chapter 44: Chapter 41: Martial King Essence Pill
SHING!
Like a longsword being unsheathed, the Profound Old Ghost’s tightly shut eyes snapped open. A ray of purple light shot out from within them. Six ice-blue Ice Crystals imdiately began to revolve around his purple Snake Pupils, the rciless light they emitted both soul-stealing and utterly demonic.
This was the first ti Mu Chen had seen the Profound Old Ghost’s eyes. With just a single glance, Mu Chen felt as if he were being stared down by an Ancient Giant Beast, so much so that he even forgot to breathe.
"Soul Separation!"
The Profound Old Ghost didn’t notice Mu Chen’s expression. After a soft cry, his brows furrowed tightly. His rciless Snake Pupils revealed a pained look. It was clear that the Profound Old Ghost was enduring with all his might. The pain of soul separation was not sothing just anyone could bear; the sensation was several tis more intense than what Mu Chen had felt when his Dantian was reforged.
"Split!"
The Profound Old Ghost let out a great shout. His originally ethereal body suddenly flickered a few tis, and then a luminous mass split off from him. This luminous mass was precisely the soul fragnt the Profound Old Ghost had separated. However, the Profound Old Ghost’s face turned extrely pale and his expression grew much weaker. A few mottled streaks appeared in his brilliant blue hair, and his already insubstantial body beca even dimr.
"Huff... huff... It’s done. Goddamn it, the pain of tearing one’s soul apart really isn’t sothing an ordinary person can withstand." The Profound Old Ghost gasped for breath, a bitter smile on his face. If he had a physical body, he definitely wouldn’t be in such a pathetic state; at the very least, enduring it completely would have been no problem.
"Master, are you all right?" Seeing the Profound Old Ghost’s face, which had aged in an instant, and his exhausted expression, Mu Chen felt a pang of distress.
"I’m fine. Who do you think your Master is? I was once the renowned..." The Profound Old Ghost shook his head with a smile, pushing the ball of soul toward the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit despite his weary expression. The Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit knew exactly what to do next. It opened its little mouth and swallowed the soul in one gulp. The effect was almost instantaneous. The nearly transparent Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit instantly beca more solid, though it was still a far cry from what it used to be.
"Wuuu..."
After letting out a happy cry toward Mu Chen, a trace of determination flashed in the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit’s eyes, and it charged headfirst into the Black Iron Lock Chain.
BANG!
The three-ter-long Black Iron Chain suddenly let out a dull roar and began to tremble with a series of clangs. Then, a dazzling mass of red and blue light erged from the body of the chain. Waves of Primordial Power erupted from it, blowing away the surrounding dust and smoke that had just been kicked up by Morin’s self-destruction.
Mu Chen stared intently at the dilapidated Black Iron Lock Chain, his heart filled with both anticipation and anxiety. As if sensing Mu Chen’s mood, the Black Iron Lock Chain suddenly floated up from the ground. Then, the chain burst with red light, and a torrent of scorching fire erupted from its body. The surrounding temperature instantly rose by several degrees.
Mu Chen quickly retreated a few steps. Looking up, he saw that the Black Iron Lock Chain, which had been made of low-quality materials to begin with, couldn’t withstand the high temperature and instantly lted into a pool of black tallic liquid. Floating within this liquid were nurous yellow and green specks.
Having read many books, Mu Chen naturally knew what these floating objects were: impurities from within the black iron. These impurities quickly began to boil in the scorching fire, bubbling and surging. Due to the different lting points of the black iron and the impurities, it took only a mont for the yellow and green impurities to turn into wisps of yellow or green gas that drifted out of the black liquid.
But this was just the beginning. For the next while, the black tallic liquid continued to bubble, the bubbles turning into gas that slowly drifted out of it.
A quarter of an hour later, the volu of the liquid had already shrunk by half. But just then, the blob of black tallic liquid suddenly began to change shape. It slowly stretched, grew longer, and finally transford into a thin chain over ten ters long and as thick as a finger. The chain was exquisitely crafted, without a single flaw.
Imdiately after, the end of the chain ford into the shape of a wrist guard. Two words faintly appeared on the guard, but they were shrouded in red light, making it difficult for Mu Chen to see what they said. At the sa ti, a dart-like blade materialized at the front end of the chain. The blade was cone-shaped, with clear spiral patterns along its body.
Once all of this had fully ford, the scorching fire on the chain’s body was instantly replaced by blue light. In the blink of an eye, the temperature that had just risen suddenly plumted. A final wave of frigid air radiated out from the chain, and Mu Chen shivered from the sudden chill.
"It’s about to be complete. The birth of an Immortal Treasure is bound to cause a worldly phenonon. To prevent anyone from noticing, I’m taking it into the Extre Spirit Pearl."
After saying this to Mu Chen, the Profound Old Ghost, without any visible sign of circulating Primordial Power, grabbed the chain that was like Profound Ice and vanished without a trace in an instant.
The mont the Profound Old Ghost disappeared, Mu Chen finally saw the two words carved onto the chain’s wrist guard... Shattered Star.
The cyclone dissipated, and the surrounding dust and smoke gradually settled. A massive crater fifty ters in diater and seven ters deep appeared before him. Around the crater, yellow sand swirled, no grass or trees remained, and shattered stones lay scattered about. It was a scene of utter devastation.
’Where’s Iron Armor Steel Fang?’
After a mont of stunned silence, Mu Chen suddenly rembered Iron Armor Steel Fang. He searched for a mont and then spotted a silver-armored, pangolin-like little beast sleeping soundly in the distance. He was speechless. Who else could that Silver-armored Little Beast be but Iron Armor Steel Fang? ’Since Master could easily block the self-destruction, then Iron Armor Steel Fang, whose strength is not that different from Master’s, could naturally block the shockwave without a scratch.’ He silently cursed himself for being an idiot, then ran over, scooped up Iron Armor Steel Fang, and held it in his arms.
But just as he picked up Iron Armor Steel Fang, he suddenly noticed several Storage Rings next to it. This surprised Mu Chen. He reached out and picked them up. Mu Chen counted a total of fourteen Storage Rings. These rings must have belonged to the mbers of the Morin rcenary Corps. One of them was exquisitely designed. Mu Chen released his Spiritual Power, trying to penetrate it to see what was inside, but when his Spiritual Power touched the ring, a resistive force easily blocked it.
"Huh?" Mu Chen let out a surprised sound. Unwilling to give up, he released his Spiritual Power again, but the result was the sa.
He sighed. ’It seems the Spiritual Realm of this ring’s owner is higher than mine. Otherwise, with my Leaving Realm Spiritual Power, I should have been able to see what’s inside.’ He set the ring aside, deciding to have his Master look at it later.
Picking up another ring, Mu Chen sent out his Spiritual Power. This ti, it passed through unimpeded. He easily erased the original owner’s Spiritual Mark, and the items inside were laid bare for him to see. When he saw what was inside, Mu Chen was truly astonished.
"Thirty-six Level 1 Magic Crystals, fifteen Level 2 Magic Crystals, four Level 3 Magic Crystals. And two hundred Purple Elental Crystals."
As he took stock of the items one by one, Mu Chen’s face lit up with joy. He took out the useful things, ignoring the clothes and other personal belongings. The more he investigated, the more shocked he beca. Of the fourteen rings, aside from the first one he couldn’t penetrate, he had erased the Spiritual Marks on all the others. The wealth he obtained left him dumbfounded. Two of the Storage Rings alone contained over fifty Fourth-level Magic Crystals each, and there were tens of thousands of Purple Elental Crystals. The thirteen rings had instantly turned the once-poor Mu Chen into a nouveau riche.
"One thousand one hundred Level 1 Magic Crystals, over seven hundred Second-level magic crystals, over four hundred Third Level Magic Crystals, over one hundred Fourth-level Magic Crystals, thirty-seven thousand Purple Elental Crystals, and various External Injury Elixirs. Tsk tsk, I really look forward to seeing what goodies are in that impenetrable Storage Ring."
A grin spread across Mu Chen’s lips as he chuckled slyly.
About an hour later, the sky had long since cleared. Out of boredom, Mu Chen roasted a lot of at, treating Iron Armor Steel Fang to a feast while also eating so himself. Just as Mu Chen was about to sit down for a good session of Cultivation, a ball of intense light flashed in front of him.
When he saw it was the Profound Old Ghost who had erged, Mu Chen’s face filled with delight. The Profound Old Ghost looked even more exhausted than before. Mu Chen stood up, the joy fading from his face as he asked, "Master, you’re..."
"Heh, I’m fine. I just need so rest. This is the Immortal Treasure transford from the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit. It will accompany you from now on." The Profound Old Ghost waved his hand, cutting Mu Chen off with a smile as he tossed a silver wrist guard to him.
Mu Chen quickly caught the wrist guard and examined it. It was very light, and though it looked like it was made of tal, it felt very elastic to the touch. On the guard was a raised, diamond-shaped gemstone that looked neither extravagant nor plain. ’But I saw the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit turn into a chain,’ he thought. ’How is it a wrist guard now?’
As if seeing Mu Chen’s confusion, the Profound Old Ghost’s lips curled into a smile. "Silly boy, why don’t you put it on and find out?"
Without a second thought, Mu Chen slipped the wrist guard onto his left hand. The mont it was on, a red and blue light erupted. The wrist guard seeped directly into Mu Chen’s flesh and blood, and a feeling of being connected by blood and bone erged in his mind. A mark resembling a star slowly appeared above Mu Chen’s wrist. The mark was incredibly clear and well-defined.
He closed his eyes, and a stream of information flooded his mind. Mu Chen’s expression went from surprise to shock, and finally to elation. Only now did he finally understand how powerful an Immortal Treasure was. The Immortal Treasure, the Shattered Star Lock Chain, possessed the Ice and Fire Dual Attribute, which could be interchanged. It could be used for both offense and defense. When evolved to its peak, it possessed the power to shatter stars, hence the na Shattered Star.
Having understood how to use it, Mu Chen focused his thoughts. The Star Mark on his wrist suddenly flashed twice, and a small, silver chain shot out like a silver snake, hovering gently in the air. Attached to the front of the chain was a sharp blade, its red and blue colors spiraling up to form a cone-shaped tip.
JINGLE JINGLE...
As if it sensed sothing, the tip of the chain suddenly twisted around to face Mu Chen. Then, sothing happened that left Mu Chen dumbfounded. The Shattered Star Lock Chain trembled and jingled twice, then floated over to him. It rapidly coiled around his arm, leaving only its tip to nuzzle his cheek a couple of tis.
If he hadn’t known about the chain, Mu Chen would have definitely dodged. The spiral, cone-shaped blade was extrely sharp; a single graze would surely have taken off a layer of skin. But Mu Chen didn’t dodge. He let Shattered Star rub against his face. Not only did it not hurt, but on the contrary, Mu Chen felt an extrely comfortable sensation, as if what was caressing his face wasn’t tal, but soft fur.
"Shattered Star?"
Mu Chen called out tentatively. In response, the Shattered Star Lock Chain began to sway its body joyfully, the links clinking and clanking against each other. It was an extrely bizarre scene, but here and now, it seed so harmonious.
"Shattered Star, go!"
