Chapter 42: Chapter 39: Fusion
"Heh heh, little one, you can’t escape. It’d be better if you didn’t resist," Morin said with a smile as he walked toward the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit.
"WHINE!" The Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit glared furiously at Morin. ’It was this greedy human who reduced
to this state.’
Morin sneered. With a flash, he snatched the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit into his hand. But before he could tighten his grip, a strange Primordial Power—both icy cold and scorching hot—blasted his hand away. The Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit leaped and escaped. However, its already faint aura grew even weaker, its body flickering in and out of existence, looking as if it might disappear at any mont.
A flicker of surprise crossed Morin’s eyes. He was a Martial King, yet he had let a tiny droplet escape from his hands twice using the very sa thod.
’Truly extraordinary.’ With that thought, Morin charged toward the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit once again.
’Kid, the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit’s aura just beca extrely weak! Sothing must have happened. But it’s very close to us now.’
The Profound Old Ghost’s urgent voice echoed in his mind. Hearing this, Mu Chen grew even more frantic. Iron Armor Steel Fang let out a furious roar and its speed surged again, streaking across the sky like a teor...
WHIMPER...
With a pained cry, seeing that Morin was about to capture it, the weakened Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit made a resolute decision...
"SHRIEK!"
Following the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit’s sharp, mournful cry, an unprecedentedly powerful wave of Primordial Power suddenly erupted from its body.
"BOOM!"
Rings of powerful shockwaves radiated outward like crashing waves. The force was unprecedented. Morin, at the very front, was the first to et the initial blast. The first wave wasn’t much; his body just faltered for a mont.
But then ca the second wave, and the third, each stronger than the last. Morin’s face paled. When the fourth shockwave hit, he was sent flying backward with a loud BANG.
*Ptui!*
A mouthful of blood sprayed from Morin’s mouth. His face was ashen. The force of the shockwaves had exceeded the physical limits of a Martial King.
In truth, Morin didn’t know that Immortal Treasures normally don’t possess a shred of Primordial Power. However, they have an exceptionally terrifying Talent Ability... Self-Destruction. When an Immortal Treasure is cornered with no escape, it will choose to unleash this talent. It releases the essence of power it has condensed over tens, or even hundreds, of thousands of years in the form of Primordial Power, causing a massive explosion.
Legend has it that tens of thousands of years ago, a Saint, drawn by the fad power of Immortal Treasures, searched far and wide for one. He finally found one in a desolate, dangerous land. When enticent failed, he resorted to threats, using his power as a Saint to try and force the Immortal Treasure into submission. The Immortal Treasure, knowing escape was hopeless, resolutely chose self-destruction.
That single talent obliterated the lower half of the Saint’s body and turned the land in a ten-thousand-li radius to scorched earth, where nothing grew for the next ten thousand years. The Saint, relying on his formidable power, survived the blast. However, his Cultivation Realm plumted directly from the Saint realm to the Nine-Ring Martial Emperor Peak. Not long after, word spread that he had been ambushed and killed by his enemies, marking his final fall.
This shows just how terrifying the power of an Immortal Treasure’s talent is. The prelude to its activation is a sudden, powerful Primordial Power shockwave emanating from the Immortal Treasure. Only after this shockwave has pulsed nine tis is the Talent Ability activated and self-destruction triggered.
And now, the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit had already unleashed the seventh wave. With two more, self-destruction would be inevitable. So of the nearby Martial Artists, Martial Masters, and even Grand Martial Masters already felt their blood churning in their veins. The weaker ones were bleeding from their seven orifices, their status unknown.
"SHRIEK!"
With another sharp cry, the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit’s body erupted in a blinding red and blue light, obscuring everyone’s vision. This was the sign that the eighth wave was nearly complete.
’Hurry, it’s about to self-destruct!’ the Profound Old Ghost yelled.
Mu Chen had just arrived, but he couldn’t see anything clearly below. The entire area was engulfed in a swirling red and blue light. Panicked, Mu Chen could only channel Primordial Power to his throat and roar, "Little Spirit!"
"Coo?"
That one thunderous shout caused the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit to pause just as it was about to trigger the final pulse. The self-destruction talent was instantly interrupted.
"COO COO..."
The Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit cried out joyfully. It looked up and saw Mu Chen standing on Iron Armor Steel Fang’s head—such a familiar sight. In just two leaps, it shot into Mu Chen’s arms, its big, watery eyes welling up with tears.
"I’m here."
Gently stroking the now nearly transparent Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit, a lump ford in Mu Chen’s throat. ’Is this still the sa lively, adorable Little Spirit? It’s shrunk by half.’
As the Sun and Moon Immortal Spirit had stopped the activation of its talent, the blinding light slowly receded, revealing the bewildered mbers of the Morin rcenary Corps below.
When Mu Chen saw the nearly five hundred people below, a towering inferno of rage erupted in his chest, twisting his features into a vicious snarl. But the expression vanished from his face as quickly as it had appeared.
"Iron Armor Steel Fang... leave no one alive."
As his indifferent, emotionless words faded, Iron Armor Steel Fang’s mouth split into a grin. Its rows of sharp, steel-like teeth glinted with a cold light, and three purple Martial Rings shone dazzlingly in the night.
Only then did Morin and the others get a clear look at the scene in the sky, and the hair on the back of their necks instantly stood on end.
"Purple Martial Rings... That’s a Royal Beast!"
It was unclear which rcenary shouted it first, but the others reacted instantly. Panic erupted. So cried out in alarm, others scrambled to flee. In short, not a single one dared to stand and fight.
"Idiots, don’t run!"
Morin roared at his fleeing corps mbers. The others might not know what that Royal Beast was, but he knew all too well. The farther they ran, the slimr their chances of survival.
*FWOOSH!*
A silver Elental Power Cannon as thick as a barrel shot down from the sky. Under the terrified gazes of the Morin rcenary Corps, it carved a great arc through the air. The cluster of fleeing Martial Artists was annihilated by the beam before they could even scream.
The Martial Artists fleeing in other directions breathed a quiet sigh of relief. Only Morin knew that this single Elental Power Cannon was just the beginning.
*FWOOSH FWOOSH FWOOSH FWOOSH...*
After that first blast, countless more Elental Power Cannons rained down from the sky. Each strike took the lives of several, sotis even dozens, of Martial Artists.
Cold sweat dripped down Morin’s temples. He had only just broken through to the Martial King realm. Facing Iron Armor Steel Fang, he couldn’t even begin to think of resisting. But as the leader, he couldn’t just stand by and watch his n get slaughtered one by one.
"Big Bro, what are you spacing out for? This thing looks pretty tough. Let old Baldy here have a go! Let’s see which is tougher—your hide or my Iron Rod!"
Baldy, who was built like a bull, pulled the massive Iron Rod from his back. He stomped the ground and used his Primordial Power to leap high into the air. Swinging the giant rod with enough force to shake mountains and rivers, he brought it crashing down on Iron Armor Steel Fang’s head.
"ROAR?"
Iron Armor Steel Fang shot Baldy a disdainful glance. It turned, flicked its blade-covered tail, and a wave of Powerful Qi sent Baldy and his rod flying far into the distance.
In mid-air, the giant Iron Rod shattered into countless pieces the mont it touched Iron Armor Steel Fang’s tail. So of the shards were so close to Baldy that they embedded themselves deep into his chest. He coughed up several mouthfuls of blood mixed with bits of his internal organs, his eyes rolled back, and he passed out. Anxious, Morin and Xia Yan rushed to catch him. But when they saw the innurable iron fragnts lodged in Baldy’s chest, they both erupted in fury.
"Fuck! I’ll kill you!"
Though Xia Yan and Baldy were always bickering, they both knew deep down that only true brothers teased each other that way. Now, with Baldy on the verge of death, how could he possibly back down?
"Hah! Flaming Slash!"
Xia Yan roared. The temperature around him shot up as three green Martial Rings flashed around him. His Red Greatsword swung, unleashing a scorching wave of red Sword Qi that flew toward Iron Armor Steel Fang.
Iron Armor Steel Fang seed to completely ignore the incoming Sword Qi. It simply turned its back to the attack, and the two collided.
"CLANG!"
A shower of sparks erupted. Mu Chen felt a wave of heat wash past him, and even the space around him seed to distort.
"ROAR!"
Iron Armor Steel Fang let out a furious roar and turned its rciless gaze on Xia Yan. Its body curled into a ball. At that exact mont, Elder Xuan materialized beside Mu Chen. Spreading his own Primordial Power, he lifted Mu Chen off the beast and gently lowered him to the ground.
’I’ll leave these small fry to you,’ Elder Xuan said with a dark chuckle. ’With your current strength, killing them should be simple enough. As for that Martial King and the Martial Spirit, I’m sure Iron Armor Steel Fang can finish them off in no ti.’ He knew it was ti for the boy to start killing.
Mu Chen glanced at the surrounding Morin corps mbers and sneered inwardly. ’Killing these people really is simple.’ A dagger appeared in his hand with a flick of his wrist. He activated Mist Step. In a flash of light, a head went flying. The eyes of the slain Martial Master were wide with confusion. He saw a strange sight: a familiar body, a fountain of blood gushing from its neck, slowly collapsing. Before he could realize whose body it was, his world went black, and he lost consciousness forever.
Mu Chen smiled faintly, a cruel light in his eyes. Though it was his first ti killing soone, he didn’t feel the revulsion he’d expected. On the contrary, he felt exhilarated. The more excited he beca, the more astonishingly fast his Mist Step grew. *Ten steps to kill a man, a thousand miles without a trace.* With every flash of movent, another mber of the Morin rcenary Corps fell.
anwhile, in the air, a sphere covered in silver blades ricocheted between the sky and the ground like a bolt of lightning. It mowed down everything in its path like a scythe through wheat, obliterating swaths of trees.
*SHIIING SHIIING SHIIING SHIIING...*
A series of slicing sounds echoed from above. In a mont of carelessness, the sphere caught up to Xia Yan. He didn’t even have ti to grunt before he exploded into a bloody mist.
"Yan! All of you can just go die!"
Morin’s eyes blazed with fury as he let out a savage roar. A brilliant white light flared from his Dantian. Elder Xuan’s expression changed, and he shouted in Mu Chen’s mind, ’He’s going to self-destruct! Get back!’
Without a second thought, Mu Chen stomped his foot and vanished in a flash. The instant he disappeared, a brilliant white light detonated in the sky. A heaven-shaking explosion unleashed a massive shockwave, blasting Mu Chen backward even though he had already reappeared a great distance away.
