Chapter 153: Chapter 150: Challenging the Tower of Calamity 2

When the instructor arrived, the previously chattering students all fell silent. Lingyun curiously scanned the entire class, but when her gaze settled on Mo Qing’s face, a certain na instantly surfaced in her mind.

’Ninth Princess?’

The whisper was so faint that no one else heard it. Mo Qing subtly winked at Lingyun, a silent plea for her to keep her identity hidden. Lingyun gave a slight nod before asking in a serious tone, "What day is it today?"

"Life-or-death training!" the students answered in unison.

"Very good," Lingyun said. "Since you know this is a life-or-death training, I’ll get straight to the point. This session will last for only two days. During this ti, you must kill the hostile Magical Beasts assigned to you. These assignnts may consist of a single beast or a whole pack, depending on the individual. Of course, you can rest assured that a single beast will be formidable, and a pack of them will not be impossibly strong. The Academy has already arranged the most suitable Magical Beasts for each of you based on your current Martial Artist Realm. The rest is up to you."

"Yes!"

Hearing Lingyun’s words, the students answered without the slightest hesitation, not a trace of nervousness among them. Lingyun smiled, satisfied, and continued, "However, before you leave for your training, I have two announcents." She raised a finger. "First, Mu Chen will not be participating."

The classroom imdiately erupted in a low buzz.

Lingyun’s announcent sent the class into an uproar, with confused expressions on every face. Unperturbed, Lingyun simply crossed her arms and stood smiling at the lectern, letting the students talk amongst themselves. Only when the noise gradually subsided into silence did she speak again. "The reason Mu Chen isn’t participating is because the Academy has deed it unnecessary. His strength simply cannot be asured by his Martial Artist Realm. To this day, the Academy still doesn’t know the full extent of his true power. With that in mind, do you really think this life-or-death training would be aningful for him?"

The students exchanged glances. They weren’t fools; they understood her point. If Mu Chen’s strength couldn’t be judged by his realm, then it was impossible to assign him a Magical Beast that t the criteria for this training. If the beast was too weak, Mu Chen would obliterate it instantly, rendering the trial pointless. If it was too strong, the situation could spiral out of control, and a single misstep might lead to disastrous consequences.

"Therefore, after unanimous agreent from the Academy, Mu Chen will not participate in the life-or-death training." Lingyun’s gaze swept over the students before locking onto Mu Chen. "However!" she declared seriously, "he has a more important mission, one that very few besides him could ever hope to complete."

"A mission?" Mu Chen asked, curious.

Lingyun continued, "This week, the Academy’s Tower of Calamity will be opened. I’m sure the Tower is not an unfamiliar na to any of you; you’ve all heard a little about it. And Mu Chen’s mission is this: to break the all-ti highest record in the Tower of Calamity, the one set by Amoluo!"

"What?!"

A number of students shot to their feet, their minds reeling. The mission was simply impossible! Break Amoluo’s record in the Tower of Calamity? And just who was Amoluo? He was the only genius in the last hundred years of the Xuanling Empire to beco a Martial King before the age of twenty. And they wanted *Mu Chen* to break his record? Was that even possible? That was a feat only a Martial King could accomplish. How could Mu Chen, a re Sixth-Ring Martial Master, possibly do it? In their hearts, the answer was a resounding no. No matter how many miracles Mu Chen had perford, they believed he could never cross such an impossibly vast chasm.

Mu Chen fell silent. ’Challenge Amoluo’s record...’ he thought. ’Based on the strength expected of my realm, I couldn’t break that record even if I used every trick up my sleeve. But... if I can manage three or four perfect clears... then forget just challenging Amoluo’s record. Surpassing it would be a simple matter.’

"Mu Chen, this is the goal the Academy has set for you. If you can break this record, you can ask Dean Di for any one thing within his power to grant. A request from a Martial Venerable, you know..." Lingyun winked, her aning perfectly clear: if he could break the record, he would be hitting the jackpot.

"And that’s not all. The Tower of Calamity may belong to the Imperial Academy, but the Imperial Academy belongs to the Xuanling Empire. Therefore, if you set a new record in the Tower, the Empire itself will also reward you. A reward that might even... impact your entire family. I believe in you!"
