Shen Zhiyi opened her eyes in the morning to see Pei Yu walking out of the walk-in closet, his tie just put on but not yet tightened. He paused for a mont when he saw her awake, then walked toward her.
Before he could speak, Shen Zhiyi had already sat up, "Let tie your tie."
Pei Yu was slightly stunned for a mont, but soon bent down and leaned over, eyes slightly drooping, watching her handle the tie clumsily, "Are you in a good mood today?"
"Not bad," Shen Zhiyi looked up at him and smiled, "What are your plans for today?"
Pei Yu didn’t quite understand why she would ask this, so he simply recounted his schedule and then asked her, "Is there sothing?"
"What could I possibly have?" Shen Zhiyi adjusted his shirt collar for him, "I have a banquet to attend today and if it ends too late, I won’t co back ho."
Pei Yu didn’t answer imdiately, as if pondering sothing, and after a while, he softly humd a response, seemingly reluctant.
His eyes lowered, the eyelashes long and thick. From Shen Zhiyi’s angle, his usual coldness seed diminished, whether he was unconsciously less guarded or Shen Zhiyi had beco so familiar with him that she could discern his moods. In any case, Shen Zhiyi felt he would prefer not to have her work finish too late today.
Quietly contemplating whether this behavior could be counted as evidence of his possible affection for her, Shen Zhiyi took another few looks at him, deliberately saying, "I’ve been thinking recently about taking part in a variety show, which would an I won’t be able to co back to Huating for several days."
This ti, Pei Yu visibly frowned.
Shen Zhiyi felt a strange sense of joy inside her, silently marking this as one piece of evidence.
Although her intention was to test Pei Yu, Shen Zhiyi’s schedule did, in fact, include this, and after leaving the film set in the afternoon and getting ready, she went to the charity gala held by two luxury brands.
She wasn’t fond of such events and just sat at her designated spot, playing with her phone, occasionally posing for photos with others, and making light, unskillful small talk.
Usually, at tis like this, Shen Zhiyi would bother Qin Xiaoran, her friend who was always available online, to chat and pass the ti, but today, after automatically opening their chatbox, she backed out and scrolled to the bottom of the page to find Pei Yu’s chat.
Unsure if he was busy, Shen Zhiyi cautiously sent an expressive emoji of a peeking cat, thinking if there was no response, that would be the end of it, as unlike Qin Xiaoran, Pei Yu was genuinely a busy person.
The ssage had been sent for a while without any activity when suddenly her phone chid.
Pei Yu asked her what’s up?
She smiled involuntarily, quickly typing a reply.
"Feeling bored."
Pei Yu’s response was slower this ti, sending back an emoji of a cat being petted.
Shen Zhiyi opened her chat with Qin Xiaoran and asked her, "What do you think it ans when a grown man sends a woman a cute emoji?"
Qin Xiaoran replied, "If he’s angling for her."
Shen Zhiyi smiled slightly and sent her a screenshot of their conversation.
Qin Xiaoran replied, "... Could it really not be Secretary Qin sending it on his behalf?"
Shen Zhiyi didn’t reply further, both of them knew the answer.
She stayed at the banquet venue until the evening, and upon coming out of the restroom, received a ssage from Pei Yu asking where she was.
She slowly replied: "Still at the banquet."
Holding her phone, she walked back into the lobby and was about to send another ssage when she saw the man surrounded by several brand managers.
Pei Yu was taller than the others, and his outstanding appearance was such that none in the entertainnt industry could rival him. His face was expressionless as he accepted everyone’s complints, well accustod to it and seemingly indifferent.
Before Shen Zhiyi could react, he had already seen her.
Shen Zhiyi was surprised to see him here, unsure if it was due to business or because of her. Fearing she might be overthinking, she didn’t approach hastily but stood a few ters away, locking eyes with him for a few seconds.
She remained still, and Pei Yu seed to lose patience waiting. He nodded slightly to those around him, said sothing, then walked towards her.
The hall was brightly lit, and in the few seconds that Shen Zhiyi waited for him to approach, her heart suddenly skipped unevenly, her eyes seeing only his figure.
In this mont, she could at least be sure, whether or not Pei Yu truly liked her, her own feelings for Pei Yu were certainly not simple.
It was strange; he was far from her ideal type... Shen Zhiyi thought to herself, also recalling the nights with Pei Yu, how he could be very tender.
No wonder she liked him.
Pei Yu ca to stand before Shen Zhiyi, lowering his gaze to look at her for a while. Seeing her seemingly lost in thought, he chuckled lightly, the coolness in his eyes instantly dissipating, "Why aren’t you speaking?"
Just a second ago, Shen Zhiyi was pondering why she might fall for him, and in this mont, she realized she didn’t need to search, everything was the answer.
"Why did you co?" her voice was soft, looking at his neatly crisp dark gray suit, the tie still tied by her, "You didn’t tell ."
"I wasn’t sure if you wanted to co," Pei Yu’s voice was also lowered, "You said you were bored, right? I ca to take you ho."
No matter the occasion, Pei Yu was always the center of attention. Shen Zhiyi still rembered the first ti she saw him after he had grown up, surrounded by many people, and so wealthy heirs didn’t even have a chance to approach, discussing his impressive and beautiful achievents from afar—astonishing for soone barely into his twenties.
Now was no exception, Shen Zhiyi stood in an inconspicuous corner, yet many eyes were drawn to her. Few people here knew about her relationship with Pei Yu, and these people likely had concocted many romantic tales in their heads.
Looking into Pei Yu’s eyes, she felt increasingly that he was very much to her liking, "Have you finished your work?"
"I canceled a social engagent," Pei Yu didn’t hide it from her.
After thinking for a while, Shen Zhiyi with curved eyes said, "Alright then, let’s go ho."
She extended her hand, and Pei Yu grabbed it without hesitation.
The pair left the hotel, and Xiaodong, who had been waiting for a while, drove the car to the curb. From afar, seeing a man standing next to Shen Zhiyi, he called to inquire.
"Sis, who’s that with you?"
Standing close to Pei Yu, Shen Zhiyi looked up at him and spoke to Xiaodong on the other end of the line, "That’s my husband."
With an affectionate tone that not only stunned Xiaodong, Pei Yu too was surprised, tightening his grip on her hand, a slight smile curling up at his lips.
Xiaodong, holding the phone in dumbfounded silence, watched the two figures from a distance and thought they really did seem quite well-matched.
