After the hottest part of the sumr had passed, Shen Zhiyi’s appetite was still poor. The doctor said this was a normal reaction in early pregnancy, but still urged her to eat more and enhance her nutritional intake. The people around her were also well-prepared, treating her als as a major affair.
"Not eating anymore?" Xiaodong looked at her, having eaten less than a third of the al, and showed a worried expression.
"I really can’t eat anymore," Shen Zhiyi’s mood was always bad at tis like these. Not wanting to eat yet forcing oneself to eat would put anyone in a bad mood.
She had much less work to do now, only needed to stay on set for filming. The director had moved up all her scenes so that they could be shot before she started showing too much.
Even with that, she spent only a small amount of ti on set each day, and as soon as she wrapped up, she would return to Huating. Shen Zhiyi was especially sleepy during this stage and often fell asleep on the couch while flipping through her script.
While she was still awake, the butler brought over so soup and watched her drink half a bowl.
"Is there anything you feel like eating?"
Now, nothing mattered more than ensuring Shen Zhiyi ate well.
Shen Zhiyi leaned back on the soft sofa cushion and thought for a mont, "Ice cream."
Pei Yu didn’t really let her eat cold foods, but exceptions were made for now. It was good enough that she had an appetite for sothing, so no one restrained her.
Curled up on the sofa, she had eaten about half a bowl of ice cream when Pei Yu ca back. She didn’t want to eat anymore and handed it off to him.
Pei Yu casually took it and finished the rest in a few bites, scooped her into his arms, and placed his palm gently on her lower abdon, caressing it lightly, "What did you eat today?"
Shen Zhiyi listed the foods she had eaten that day, as if reporting her schedule. Although she didn’t eat much each ti, thanks to everyone’s care, she was fed frequently, and it added up.
"That’s great," Pei Yu listened and felt reassured. He kissed her on the lips and then wrapped sothing around her wrist.
"A peace charm?" Shen Zhiyi looked at the small cloth bag, quite surprised, "Did you get this for ?"
"Yeah," Pei Yu said casually, "I’ve heard it’s useful."
Businesspeople are actually the most superstitious, and although Pei Yu wasn’t usually a believer, he wasn’t particularly devout now either; he just wanted a psychological comfort.
Shen Zhiyi’s pregnancy check-ups were all normal, but she was naturally thin, and now, due to poor appetite, she disliked eating even more. Pei Yu’s inner worry grew as Shen Zhiyi’s belly began to show.
He covered her lower abdon with his palm and asked in a low voice, "Has it gotten a bit bigger?"
"It seems so," Shen Zhiyi was very attentive to the changes in her body and told Pei Yu, "It’s starting to bulge a little."
Her waist was slim and her belly flat, but now when viewed from the side, there was a slight bulge, less obvious than if soone else had overeaten.
Not long after dinner, Shen Zhiyi, overwheld by sleepiness, went back to the bedroom first. Several hours later, when she woke up, the space beside the bed was empty; Pei Yu hadn’t co yet.
She sat on the bed in a daze for a while, wanting to see Pei Yu—she wasn’t sure if she had beco more clingy or it was the pregnancy’s effect, but recently she felt the need to have soone close by her side. With Pei Yu around, he was naturally the first choice.
The ti was not too late, and around this hour he was usually in the study working. Shen Zhiyi moved sluggishly and went to find him. She saw Pei Yu looking down at sothing, like a book.
"What are you reading?"
Pei Yu looked up, naturally extended his hand to embrace her, allowing her to sit on his lap, and showed her the cover of the book.
It was an English encyclopedia on pregnancy.
She couldn’t help but laugh, "Is it useful?"
"It’s alright," Pei Yu naturally touched her abdon, "Let’s go to the hospital for another check-up tomorrow."
He rembered her prenatal check-up schedule even better than she did.
"I have a red carpet event this afternoon," Shen Zhiyi yawned as she embraced him, "Let’s push it to tomorrow."
Although most of her work had halted, Shen Zhiyi was still in the early stages of her pregnancy and couldn’t disappear from public view just yet. She still retained appearances at so important red carpet events.
Pei Yu humd in agreent, and recalling which luxury brand was hosting the dinner for that red carpet event, he added, "Let Xiaoran accompany you."
He knew Shen Zhiyi had been feeling lonely lately and would be happier with soone close to her by her side.
Shen Zhiyi indeed smiled, "Okay."
Less than three months pregnant, Shen Zhiyi showed very little, and wearing a gown was not a problem.
While preparing her makeup for the red carpet event, Xiaodong sighed as he looked at Shen Zhiyi’s waist, which was still not enough to fill his hands.
It was good that her figure hadn’t changed, but Shen Zhiyi was too thin; it would be worriso once her belly grew larger.
Because Shen Zhiyi’s figure hadn’t changed much, few people knew about her pregnancy. Since it was better not to publicize it during the early stage of pregnancy, Pei Yu had kept the news quiet, and Shen Zhiyi hadn’t inford her fans either—only their close friends knew.
"You can’t wear high heels," Xiaodong took out the flat shoes he had prepared earlier, "This dress has a petticoat, so no one will notice what shoes you wear underneath."
However, this type of dress was also not easy to walk in, so Xiaodong stayed with her throughout the red carpet event until they reached the venue, where Qin Xiaoran arrived.
After taking group photos with several people, Shen Zhiyi ended up alone at a table with Qin Xiaoran.
"These dishes are quite good; try them," Qin Xiaoran, too, had co with a mission in mind, knowing that Shen Zhiyi had a poor appetite during her pregnancy. He hoped to encourage her to eat a little more for the baby’s sake and for her own health.
"I’m not sure if your appetite will improve in a while, but you’re really too thin now."
"I’ll try to eat more," she said.
In fact, Shen Zhiyi’s pregnancy symptoms were mild. She wasn’t experiencing morning sickness or nausea; she simply didn’t have much of an appetite.
"Have you prepared the baby’s room yet?" Qin Xiaoran asked casually as he watched her eat.
"It’s being decorated," Shen Zhiyi said with a smile, her lips pursed, "Pei Yu is handling it."
He found the interior designer and bought the furniture. Not only the baby room but also an indoor playground had been designed, and luckily, there were plenty of empty rooms in Huating to accommodate the alterations.
"I’m thinking about preparing baby clothes too, but Qin Fang says it’s too early to start now, and we don’t know whether it’s a boy or a girl," Qin Xiaoran muttered, reaching out to touch her abdon, "In a few weeks, we should find out, right? Do you want a son or a daughter?"
"Either is fine," Shen Zhiyi replied, "It would be best if the child resembles Pei Yu."
As for the gender, it didn’t really matter to her.
"Brother Pei Yu said he wants the child to look like you; they say sons often resemble their mothers more."
Shen Zhiyi just laughed, "Then I want a daughter."
"A daughter who looks like Pei Yu?" Qin Xiaoran found the idea amusing, picturing a proud little girl with a cold visage, "She’d be doted on like a princess, truly the jewel of the family."
No matter the looks, it would be better if the child had Shen Zhiyi’s personality, which would be more likeable.
Shen Zhiyi giggled, full of anticipation, "That would be nice."
After all, she hoped the child would resemble Pei Yu; having two similar faces, one big and one small, that would be wonderful.
