Shen Zhiyi was woken up early to have her makeup done, by which ti Pei Yu was already not by her side. Sleepy-eyed, she let the makeup artist apply sothing on her face.
While having her hairstyle done, the butler brought a bowl of Job’s tears and red bean porridge to fill her stomach, along with so pastries.
Curious, she asked, "Is the venue already set up?"
The wedding was to be held in Huating, and preparations had started several days ago. Huating was so large that even Shen Zhiyi had many places she had never set foot in. She hadn’t put much thought into it herself and knew nothing about the wedding preparations, wondering what it looked like now.
The butler nodded. Today she wore a light-colored dress to match the wedding, less steady than usual, and wore the guest’s corsage, a bright Juliet Rose, "Everything is ready."
Their wedding was entirely Western-style, which was more suitable for them compared to the strict traditional Chinese ceremony, especially since neither sets of parents would attend.
Soon, guests began arriving outside, visible through the window. Qin Xiaoran arrived and imdiately ran upstairs, eagerly pushing open the door.
Shen Zhiyi had just changed into her wedding dress and looked up with a slight smile, "How is it?"
"God," Qin Xiaoran paused for a mont, "it’s beautiful."
She approached closely, inspecting the elaborate wedding dress on Shen Zhiyi and the fully made-up bride, and smiled thinly, "You are so beautiful!"
Compared to the slightly cool and reserved Shen Zhiyi she first t, today’s Shen fully made people realize how stunning her features were and how soft her deanor, Director ng called her an Eastern beauty for a reason. She had a unique charm about her, aloof when distant, like her favorite ink paintings, but completely natural and blossoming when close, like witnessing the blooming of flowers.
The wedding dress chosen by Pei Yu was tailor-made for her; the layers of the skirt supported like green leaves cradling a blossom without overshadowing it.
Shen Zhiyi smiled shyly, tilting her head to glance at herself in the mirror.
Her long black hair was all pinned up, exposing the beautiful lines of her shoulders and neck. She slightly lowered her eyes, and their long lashes were thick, the corners of her lips not so natural, betraying a hint of nervousness.
She took a deep breath, picked up her skirt, "Let’s go."
Huating hadn’t been this lively in a long ti, with several hundred guests attending; even those not familiar with Pei’s could receive an invitation, and saying it startled the city wasn’t an exaggeration. Everyone in the circle knew there was a happy event in the Pei Family.
Only close friends could co to the main building, scattered around the hall; hearing footsteps, everyone looked up simultaneously to see the bride in her grand attire.
On the spacious spiral staircase, the first thing to appear was a stretch of snowy skirt. Shen Zhiyi slightly lowered her brow as she slowly descended, her slender and graceful figure like soone from a painting.
She slightly raised her eyes to see Pei Yu standing closest to the staircase; their gazes gently collided, and her lips curved into a tender smile.
Pei Yu was looking up, his clear dark brows and eyes as if finely outlined, breathtaking at first sight. Clad in a perfectly tailored black suit that highlighted his slim waist and long legs, he was in the look Shen Zhiyi loved the most.
His gaze remained fixed on Shen Zhiyi, his Adam’s apple subtly moving a few tis as he stepped forward and opened his palm toward her.
Shen Zhiyi stepped onto the last stair, extending her hand, which he firmly gripped. Both looked into each other’s eyes, eyes filled with light smiles but also faint, almost imperceptible nervousness.
Even though they had been together for a long ti, the actual ceremony still made them nervous when it was this grand.
"Alright," Qin Fang adjusted the rose on his chest and smiled, "The groomsn are ready to set off."
Fu Songzhi’s face also bore a smile as he placed a hand on Qin Fang, "Let the couple go first."
Shen Zhiyi smiled at them, noticing Xiaodong, who seed unable to resist snapping photos due to his professional habit, having dressed up specially for the event.
She lowered her eyes, lifting her hand to hold onto Pei Yu’s arm, hearing him ask in a low voice, "Are you ready?"
The wedding was particularly lenient towards the bride, Shen Zhiyi didn’t need to worry about anything, a re nod and a "I’m ready" from her and the groom would lead her forward.
She softly responded and took a step forward.
It wasn’t far from the main building to the wedding venue, Shen Zhiyi in her bridal gown didn’t feel cold. Looking up, she realized there was a "roof" above her, brimming with dazzling roses, and many heating devices set on the ground. The wedding site felt as if nestled inside a warm pavilion, keeping the cold outside, not allowing it to disturb the beautiful bride.
Despite this setup, Pei Yu still worried, quietly asking when he noticed Shen Zhiyi moving closer, "Are you cold?"
Shen Zhiyi shook her head, bending her eyes as she explained why she moved closer, "I just wanted to be a little closer to you."
Pei Yu’s lips curved slightly, yet he misunderstood her intention, "Nervous?"
"A bit," Shen Zhiyi studied him closely. She loved Pei Yu’s facial expression, his eyebrows dark as ink and eyes usually indifferent, only shedding that layer of arrogant coldness when he faced her. "Aren’t you nervous?"
She whispered to him, "I can tell, you’re nervous too."
Pei Yu pursed his lips but did not deny it.
Upon entering the wedding venue, all the guests seated around turned their gazes upon them, all unfamiliar faces. Even though Shen Zhiyi wasn’t afraid of being watched, she still found herself nervously gripping her hand.
Pei Yu glanced down at her then looked to the side where a young woman, catching his gaze, nudged the child in front of her. Duan Jiaze, getting the signal, imdiately grabbed the flower basket and ran ahead, scattering flowers while squinting mischievously at Shen Zhiyi.
Shen Zhiyi couldn’t help but smile, feeling much more relaxed.
Under the watchful eyes of all the guests, the couple slowly walked to the front where the officiant was ng, who had directed many dramas but was hosting a wedding for the first ti.
Standing there, facing the many strange faces below, Shen Zhiyi felt so nervous that her mind went blank, not even hearing what ng was saying, until Pei Yu pulled her to turn and face each other.
She heard Pei Yu say in a very low and gentle tone,
"I do."
"Bride," ng inquired, "whether in poverty or in wealth... do you agree to spend the rest of your life with the man in front of you, holding hands till old age?"
Pei Yu quietly watched her, his eyes deep. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, Shen Zhiyi rembered a scene long forgotten.
In the sumr mountains, she erged from the Cherry Blossom Forest and saw a strangely dressed young boy. She had planned to ignore him and leave but he stopped her.
"What’s your na?"
At that ti, she felt it odd and didn’t answer, hurrying away instead.
Now, she thought, if she could do it over, she would tell him.
Shen Zhiyi lowered her gaze and smiled, "I do."
