Few people were aware of their past relationship, so only Pei Yu understood what she ant. He knew this was Shen Zhiyi’s promise to him—she was never stingy with her promises, always generous with her love for him.
Shen Zhiyi extended her hand, "Mr. Pei, I’m sorry to have kept you waiting for so long."
She said, "Now, there’s no need to wait."
The ring slid to the base of her finger, a perfect fit. Pei Yu held her hand for a long ti without letting go, giving her a lingering kiss.
Suddenly, the voice of a child rang out clearly in the silent private room.
"Aunt! Now you’re really my aunt, right?!"
Shen Zhiyi turned her head, looking in the direction of the voice, "Jiaze?"
Qin Fang, holding his phone, shrugged, "Everyone who should be here is here, and our little Jiaze can’t be missing."
On the screen was Duan Jiaze’s plump face, whom she hadn’t seen for a long ti. He hadn’t lost an ounce, his eyes shone brightly as he looked at the cara, sweetly calling out, "Aunt~"
He seed very excited, almost bouncing with joy, "Uncle, I want to see your ring, your ring is different!"
It was personally made by Shen Zhiyi, of course, it was different from others. Pei Yu glanced over indifferently, avoiding the cara.
Qin Fang translated that look for the child, "It ans you wish."
Duan Jiaze: "...Damn it!"
He pleaded with Shen Zhiyi again, now speaking fluent Mandarin with no barriers in communication, "When will you co to see , Aunt? I miss you."
Even before Shen Zhiyi officially beca his aunt, he was already calling her that enthusiastically, and now with a legitimate reason, he was even more energized.
"I’ll visit when I’m free," Shen Zhiyi comforted the child, "I also have to see if your uncle is free."
"It’s fine if he doesn’t co," Duan Jiaze said, with Pei Yu out of the fra, and his boldness was uncontainable, "You can co by yourself, Aunt."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Pei Yu snatched the phone away. Without even looking at the screen, he hung up the call.
Shen Zhiyi felt a bit like laughing, "Why do you always bully Jiaze?"
The child on the other end was about to explode with frustration.
Pei Yu fed her a piece of cake, "Today is my birthday."
The implication was that he could do anything he wanted that day; it didn’t count as bullying the child.
Shen Zhiyi curved her lips into a smile, teasing him for his immaturity, yet she liked even this childish side of Pei Yu.
The cake was divided among the few, Qin Fang said while eating, "Now I know why Brother Pei asked us to prepare two gifts."
Qin Xiaoran continued, "One is to celebrate his successful proposal."
"Damn it," Qin Fang imitated Duan Jiaze’s tone, "We have to give a gift for the engagent, and another for the wedding, my savings will be emptied."
"You could get married several tis," Fu Songzhi said leisurely, "and empty Brother Pei’s savings as well."
Qin Fang shivered with disgust at that comnt, "Don’t jinx ."
He didn’t want to get married even once.
When the gathering ended that day, the sky was dotted with fine, light snowflakes, the first snow of the winter. It was neither hasty nor heavy, inducing a sense of warmth in those who saw it, making them feel that this winter would surely be a winter of smooth sailing.
Shen Zhiyi’s cold had not yet fully healed. The first thing she did upon getting ho was to take her dicine.
Gazing at the snowflakes outside the window, she longed to step out into the yard to tread on the snow, but sadly, Pei Yu would certainly not allow it.
As she contemplated, Xiaodong called, his excitent on par with Duan Jiaze’s.
"Sis, are you and Brother-in-law getting married?!"
Shen Zhiyi hadn’t told anyone about it yet and was a bit surprised by the question, "How did you know?"
"Brother-in-law sent a photo," Xiaodong chuckled, "two hours ago."
Pei Yu was quite stingy, barely posting pictures of Shen Zhiyi on Weibo. And even when he did, they were usually side-profile shots. But today, he was surprisingly generous, sharing a frontal one. The focus of the picture, though, was on their interlocked hands, with the ring conspicuously visible.
Looking at the ti of the post, it seed to be around when Shen Zhiyi was on the phone with Duan Jiaze, which ant he had shown off the ring to everyone as soon as he put it on.
Shen Zhiyi couldn’t help but smile and responded to Xiaodong.
"Mhm."
"When will it be?" Xiaodong asked, "Before or after the New Year?"
"We haven’t decided yet," Shen Zhiyi hadn’t thought that far ahead. She just wanted to give Pei Yu a definite answer, not wanting him to wait any longer; as for when the wedding would be, she hadn’t considered it yet.
But she didn’t need to worry about these things.
Before going to sleep, Pei Yu suddenly showed Shen Zhiyi several dates, asking her to choose one.
At that mont, Shen Zhiyi was worn out by his antics and barely knew where he found the energy to do anything else. The dates he presented her with seed like a blur, and she replied vaguely, "Whichever."
"It can’t be just whichever," Pei Yu kissed the corner of her lips, feeling a bit out of control tonight. He had bit her lower lip, causing a small cut, which made him quite annoyed. "How about the nearest one?"
Shen Zhiyi suddenly beca alert, her drowsiness dissipating a little as she leaned on his chest. "Let have a look."
There were seven or eight dates in total, the nearest was after New Year’s Day, and the farthest was in April next year.
She looked up at Pei Yu, "What are these dates for?"
"Engagent," Pei Yu said, "and the wedding."
They were all auspicious dates he had soone pick out.
Shen Zhiyi was stunned for a mont; she hadn’t expected Pei Yu to act so quickly and get the dates sorted out.
Though she hadn’t thought about it, Shen Zhiyi didn’t mind letting him take charge.
"The earliest one won’t work," she had just received the news not long ago, "Director ng said we have to attend the film festival."
The movie she had worked on was submitted internationally and had been nominated for an award. Director ng was confident about winning, and they would have to attend a foreign film festival.
Pei Yu frowned for a mont, then quickly said, "Then let’s go with the second one."
It would be just after Qin Xiaoran’s wedding had ended.
"Okay," Shen Zhiyi agreed, "let’s pick April for the wedding, preparing for it is quite troubleso."
Taking Qin Xiaoran as a reference, she felt it would take a long ti to prepare for a wedding.
"You don’t need to worry," Pei Yu didn’t want to pick April, it was too late. "You just need to make the final check at the end to see if there’s anything you don’t like."
Qin Xiaoran needed to prepare so much because she had a troubleso mother-in-law, whereas Pei Yu was all alone, with a father who might as well not be considered, which made things much easier for Shen Zhiyi.
"So which one?"
Shen Zhiyi felt like Pei Yu was in a hurry.
Pei Yu ntioned a date, after the New Year—less than a month after the engagent date they had agreed upon.
"Is that okay?" He seed to be asking democratically for Shen Zhiyi’s opinion, but in reality, he was already tensely furrowing his brow, looking like he would be upset if rejected.
It was as if a delay might cause so kind of mishap.
Shen Zhiyi thus consented to all his requests, following his wishes.
"Okay."
Since the ring was already on her finger, marriage was inevitable, sooner or later. Since Pei Yu wanted to have the wedding earlier, she decided it was best to listen to him.
