With no other choice, Xiaodong made a call to Secretary Qin.
At that mont, Secretary Qin was accompanying Pei Yu in a eting. Hearing her words, he imdiately relayed the ssage to Pei Yu without delay.
"Drunk?"
Pei Yu was sowhat surprised; he knew Shen Zhiyi’s alcohol tolerance and that she was usually careful with her drinking. Even when with acquaintances, she wouldn’t drink to the point of complete intoxication.
The wrap-up party alone wouldn’t have caused this; it might have been due to the fans who ca to celebrate her five-year anniversary.
With this in mind, Pei Yu didn’t delay any longer. He took his coat, stood up, and nodded slightly to the others at the table, "Enjoy yourselves."
"Chairman Pei," soone said, seeing that he was leaving, unable to hold back, "Aren’t you staying a bit longer?"
They were afraid that sothing they said had annoyed him.
Pei Yu gave a faint smile, "I need to pick soone up."
The others exchanged glances, sowhat understanding.
The only person he would personally pick up must be his significant other.
When Pei Yu arrived, Xiaodong was still trying to persuade with earnest.
"Not going ho? How about we go to a hotel then?"
Unfortunately, because of her earlier suggestion to go ho, Shen Zhiyi didn’t trust her much, asking warily, "What if you deceive and still take ho?"
Xiaodong: "..."
A soft chuckle ca from behind. Shen Zhiyi looked up and saw Pei Yu standing at the doorway, his coat draped over his arm, lazily watching her, the smile not quite faded from his eyes.
Shen Zhiyi frowned, feeling he looked familiar, but she couldn’t place who he was.
"Are you laughing at ?"
"Hmm?" Pei Yu walked over, looking at her with interest; it was her first ti getting this drunk, a bit more willful than usual, with a hint of a temper, "I think you’re quite clever."
His words were a complint. Shen Zhiyi’s frown eased, and she felt even more that Pei Yu was familiar. Suddenly, she cupped Pei Yu’s face, leaning in closer to inspect his eyebrows and eyes. Everything was blurry, with double vision, unclear. She was anxious, and started touching his face with her hand, feeling the contour of his brow ridge, lingering slightly, then sliding to his pronounced nasal bone, gently caressing it.
Pei Yu let her touch him, and when her finger reached his lips, he unapologetically bit it.
Shen Zhiyi imdiately withdrew her hand, and again grew slightly upset, "You bit ."
It didn’t hurt, but she still felt like getting angry.
"You touched for too long," Pei Yu found her deanor amusing and leisurely teased her, "And you still bla for biting?"
Shen Zhiyi thought about it with her slow mind, feeling it made sense. She rembered that cats and dogs would also bite if petted for too long.
She was a reasonable person, even when drunk, so she didn’t dwell on him biting her.
"You look a bit familiar," Shen Zhiyi said, tilting her head, "Who are you?"
Pei Yu was slightly startled, gaining a deeper understanding of her level of intoxication—she was so drunk that she couldn’t even recognize him.
"Don’t rember at all?" Seeing the genuinely blank look in her eyes, Pei Yu didn’t press the little drunkard further, the corners of his mouth curling up with a faint smile, "Hmm... I am your husband."
That made Shen Zhiyi pause, "Ah, am I married already?"
Such an important thing, and she had no recollection of it.
"Yes," Pei Yu said very naturally, even his deceit not betraying any unnatural expression, making Shen Zhiyi have no choice but to believe it was true.
He coaxed in a low voice, "Call ’husband.’"
"Hus—" Shen Zhiyi’s face flushed, shaking her head, "I can’t say it."
She felt very odd, curious, "How long have we been married?"
"Newlyweds."
Pei Yu draped his coat over her shoulders and said with a smile, "Mrs. Pei, can you co ho with now?"
At the ntion of going ho, Shen Zhiyi no longer tangled with the issue of whether she was married or not and showed a hesitant expression, "I don’t want to go ho."
She was seriously drunk, her mories jumbled together, the past and present indistinguishable. In her heart, she instinctively feared the word "ho."
At this mont, Pei Yu hadn’t realized that the ho she ntioned was different from what he was referring to. He pondered for a mont and then asked, "Then, is it okay to go back to Huating?"
"Huating?"
Shen Zhiyi had no recollection of this place, but she wasn’t repulsed by the thought of it. Considering what Pei Yu had just tricked her with, she asked doubtfully, "Is that the house we lived in after we got married?"
Pei Yu responded softly, "Yeah, it’s our ho. Do you want to go see it?"
He had long wanted to suggest moving back to Huating but never found the right mont. He also felt he shouldn’t be too hasty. Today, taking advantage of her drunken state, might just be the perfect opportunity to push this matter forward.
Shen Zhiyi thought for a while, was persuaded, and extended her hand to him.
"Okay."
It had been several months since she last returned to Huating. Everything was both familiar and strange. Shen Zhiyi leaned against the car window, watching the scenery as they drove, and couldn’t help exclaiming, "It’s so big."
Did she actually live in such a large house?
The distance from the garage to the main building was significant. As Shen Zhiyi got out of the car, she staggered slightly, and Pei Yu supported her, "Feeling dizzy?"
After sitting in the car in a drunken state, Shen Zhiyi felt uncomfortable. At his words, she nodded and, looking ahead, didn’t want to take a single step further, silently extending her hand towards Pei Yu.
Pei Yu smiled slightly, "Do you want a piggyback or a carry?"
Shen Zhiyi thought for a few seconds, "Piggyback."
Pei Yu then bent down in front of her and, securing her on his back, walked steadily toward the direction of the main building. The butler who had co out to greet them saw this scene and silently retreated.
The night was serene, Shen Zhiyi lay on Pei Yu’s back, slling the faint pleasant scent on his body, and felt very comforted.
A few steps later, she heard Pei Yu asking her.
"Why don’t you want to go ho?"
The ho he referred to, of course, wasn’t this current one.
Although he didn’t understand the reason, her resistant attitude still concerned him, and he wanted to know why.
Shen Zhiyi, with her head down, her cheek against his warm nape, took a few seconds to reply, her voice muffled as if whispering a secret.
"He would hit ."
This single, disjointed sentence imdiately made Pei Yu stop in his tracks. He swallowed hard and fell into a prolonged silence.
After a long while, he resud walking, his deep voice mingled with the cool night breeze reached Shen Zhiyi’s ears.
He said, "I’m sorry."
If he had taken her away back then... Every ti he thought this, his heart wrenched, unable to forgive his powerless self of the past.
Shen Zhiyi was confused and didn’t understand his aning, "Why apologize?"
She liked the scent on Pei Yu, snuggled closer to his collar, "You never hit ."
After saying that, and realizing she couldn’t rember things about him, she again felt unsure and hesitantly asked, "You never beat , right?"
"Never."
Pei Yu said softly, "I will only love you."
