Chapter 131: Two Phone Calls.

It was already late at night when Shen Zhiyi erged from the bathroom, too tired to even keep her eyes open as she rested her head on Pei Yu’s shoulder, nearly asleep.

As the incoming call ringtone sounded, she sleepily snuggled further into the blanket, knowing that Pei Yu was sitting at the edge of the bed. She nudged him through the blanket and mumbled, "You answer it."

Pei Yu glanced at the phone, saw it was Shen Zhiyi’s, casually picked it up, and walked to the kitchen for a glass of water, careful not to disturb her rest.

Once the call connected, Duan Jiaze’s chubby little face appeared on the screen. Seeing the dark lens on the other side, he shouted loudly, "Zhizhi, your phone must be broken, I can’t see you!"

"Tsk," Pei Yu, holding a cup, flipped the cara of the phone, looking slightly annoyed. Fortunately, he had just eaten and was in a fairly good mood; otherwise, he might have hung up the phone at the loud yelling, "Keep it down."

"Huh?"

Upon realizing that it was Pei Yu who had answered the call, Duan Jiaze’s first reaction was to check if he had dialed the wrong number. Discovering it was indeed Shen Zhiyi’s number, he imdiately accused loudly, "Uncle, you stole Zhizhi’s phone, that’s really too much!"

"Duan Jiaze," Pei Yu set down the cup with a distinct sound and slowly comnted, "You are truly the dumbest four-year-old I’ve ever t."

Duan Jiaze: "..."

He was upset, "Uncle, you’re scolding again, I don’t want you, give the phone back to Zhizhi right now."

"She’s sleeping," Pei Yu checked the ti, "Don’t you know there’s a ti difference? It’s already two in the morning."

"Ah?" Duan Jiaze, as a four-year-old, indeed hadn’t considered this; he was in France and had only just finished dinner. "Alright then, I won’t disturb Zhizhi’s sleep, but Uncle..."

Duan Jiaze suddenly moved closer, his large eyes fluttering, "It’s two in the morning, why are you at Zhizhi’s house?"

He repeated Zhizhi insistently, much to Pei Yu’s annoyance, who corrected him in a flat tone, "Call Auntie."

"I won’t," Duan Jiaze was not so easily fooled now; he knew that Pei Yu and Shen Zhiyi were not married and that he was not really his auntie. "Zhizhi would not agree to calling you that."

Each ti he didn’t see Pei Yu, he missed his uncle, but upon seeing him, he felt like he was the worst uncle in the world. Thanks to Pei Yu, the four-year-old had already entered his rebellious phase early.

"How do you know she wouldn’t agree?" Pei Yu, holding a cup, headed towards the bedroom, "You’ve been gone for half a month. Do you think my relationship with Zhizhi is still the sa as when you left?"

In the bedroom, Shen Zhiyi was lying on her side, only her eyebrows and eyes visible above the blanket. Not yet deeply asleep, she opened her eyes slightly at the sound of footsteps, her voice heavy with sleepiness, "Whose call is it?"

"Duan Jiaze," Pei Yu set the phone on the nightstand, angling the cara only to show the ceiling and lowering the volu so that Duan Jiaze’s yelling was barely audible, easily overpowered by Pei Yu’s voice.

He pulled Shen Zhiyi out from under the covers and brought the cup to her lips, "Drink so water."

"Jiaze?" Shen Zhiyi, groggy, inquired, "Where’s the phone?"

Duan Jiaze was at school, and she was busy filming, adding the ti difference, their conversation hadn’t been frequent. She missed the little boy sowhat.

Pei Yu handed her the phone so she could see Duan Jiaze’s chubby little face on the screen. He turned up the volu, "Say ’Auntie.’"

Duan Jiaze, feeling that even if he called her Auntie Shen Zhiyi wouldn’t agree, to spite Pei Yu, obediently exclaid, "Auntie!"

Shen Zhiyi, too drowsy to be fully aware of the undercurrent between the nephew and uncle, didn’t think much about it. As he called her that, she casually responded, "Hmm, Jiaze."

Duan Jiaze: "!"

It was like a bolt from the blue!

He imdiately asked, "Uncle, are you getting married? Uncle, you must tell when you’re getting married. I’ll definitely co. Uncle, when are you going to have babies? Can you have a little sister for ? I want a sister who looks like Auntie. A brother is also fine, but he must look like Auntie too..."

"So noisy," Pei Yu said expressionlessly as he hung up the phone.

The child spoke very quickly, and because his vocabulary wasn’t very extensive, his Chinese was mixed with French, sounding all jumbled up. Shen Zhiyi didn’t understand at all, "What did he say?"

"Said goodnight to you," Pei Yu pulled her into his embrace and gently patted her, "Go to sleep."

That conversation had been so long; it clearly wasn’t just a "goodnight." But Shen Zhiyi was extrely tired and too lazy to inquire further. She snuggled into his arms and fell asleep.

Pei Yu turned off the small night light beside the bed, pulled her closer into his arms, and was about to close his eyes when Shen Zhiyi’s phone rang a few tis and then stopped before he could pick it up.

Since he was not sleepy anyway, Pei Yu picked it up and glanced at it. When he saw the caller’s na, he raised his eyebrows.

He called back directly.

The person on the other line hadn’t expected a callback, but as soon as he realized, he answered imdiately, nervous and slightly uneasy, "Zhiyi, sorry, did I disturb your rest?"

It was ng Qiming.

He had been drinking quite a bit at a gathering with friends tonight. Seeing his friends settling down one after another, and then thinking about his own situation, he felt very down. Under the influence of alcohol, he impulsively called Shen Zhiyi. The mont he made the call, he knew it was inappropriate and hung up imdiately.

Yet a few seconds later when his phone rang back, it startled him, and he couldn’t help but indulge in so wild thoughts.

"Mr. ng," Pei Yu spoke leisurely, deliberately softening his voice to not wake Shen Zhiyi. He feigned ignorance, "Calling so late, is there sothing you need?"

His tone was very recognizable, and ng Qiming recognized it imdiately. His emotions were indescribably complicated.

At this hour, Pei Yu could answer Shen Zhiyi’s phone. Could it be that they were living together now?

"Sorry," ng Qiming didn’t know what else to say, aware that his behavior tonight had been very inappropriate, "Sorry for disturbing you."

"No need to apologize," Pei Yu said indifferently, "Mr. ng, just be mindful in the future."

His words were polite, but it was clearly a glaring warning.

Calling Shen Zhiyi in the middle of the night obviously hinted at sothing, and there was no way Pei Yu could tolerate it.

"You guys," ng Qiming knew he shouldn’t ask, but he couldn’t let go without clarity, a feeling he’d had these past few days, "are you together now?"

Did he really have no chance anymore?

Pei Yu’s answer was, "I will rember to send Mr. ng an invitation."

The only situation where Pei Yu could smile genuinely at ng Qiming, he was sure, would be at his and Shen Zhiyi’s wedding.
