Chapter 1137 – Launch of Gbox
Gbox, a joint venture between Microsoft and Feng Yu, is finally launched into the market. The initial plan is to launch it nearer to the end of the year, around Christmas, but Sony had launched their PS one last month.
This is an upgraded version of Sony’s PS console. It is smaller and about a third of the original PS and can be fitted with an LCD monitor. Also, it can even be fitted in a car by plugging the adaptor in the main socket. Now, users can play gas in their cars.
There are rumors that Sony will be introducing a portable power source for PSOne that has about 2 hours of battery life.
Sony had no choice but to release this model. They had invested a lot into MP3 players but failed. Many people considered their MP3 players as defective products and affected Sony’s profits.
With the CD player and Walkman sales on the decline, Sony needs a new product to push up their profits, shareholders’ confidence, and share prices.
Although the share prices will not affect Sony’s operations, it impacts the brand. For example, Sony had relied on their positions in the Fortune 500, World’s top consur electronics brand, etc., for their marketing. They don’t want their position to drop.
Another reason is Sega Saturn had launched their latest console. Although they don’t have many gas, they still managed to get so of the market shares.
Nintendo is also going to launch its 4th generation of console. Gbox does not want to clash with Nintendo and chose to launch during this period.

This launch is held in New York. After all, the gaming console market is bigger in the US compared to China.

Sega was only watching Sony and Nintendo but had not to notice Gbox. That’s why in their contracts with the gaming companies, they had not included any restrictions against Gbox.
