"How do I fit in the equation? I didn’t do anything," Zhanxian said, still confused.

Han Xuhan scratched his head with a struggling expression. He wasn’t so sure how to explain Zhanxian’s teleportation either.

"I’m guessing that the circle of laws treated you and I as one being, since you live in my foundation tower as a part of it. This also ans that if we were punished instead, I could have used you as a stand-in for ...wait, forget I said that."

Zhanxian fixed an eyeless stare on him for so long that Han Xuhan began to regret explaining it down to such controversial details.

"So, we’re already disciples of this Holy Land of Laws, whether we like it or not. Which orb should we target next, now that the poison in the fog doesn’t bother us anymore? Or..."

Qian Yun broke the quiet and posed a good question. But his sudden drift into silence made Han Xuhan consider the implications.

"Theoretically speaking, whoever we et from this point forth, is a disciple of the Holy Land. No one could have gotten past the stadium without learning the language of laws. And learning it ans to end up with that insidious imprint on your spiritual world, turning you into a disciple whether you want to or not."

Although Qian Yun was talking about sothing both of them had suffered from just now, his tone was laced with a strange hint of glee, as if he were a child who had discovered a new ga.

Han Xuhan caught onto what he was talking about and lurched to a stop too.

"Ahh, now this, this is where the test gets interesting. The opponents we et ahead must be highly resourceful cultivators. We have to plan our steps more carefully."

They had two choices ahead; to catch up with Mu Ran, or simply beat this inheritance test by themselves thodically, if such an arrangent existed at all.

With Qian Yun’s strange cultivation technique and Han Xuhan’s slippery thods, it didn’t actually seem all that hard to them. And speaking of Qian Yun’s techniques...

"Hey, Brother Yun, you do realize that you’ve been lagging behind in terms of keeping our deal balanced, right? So can I ask you a few more questions?"

Qian Yun sighed. He hadn’t had the chance to contribute much since they had signed their contract. The information he had offered ’Shen Kai’ was nowhere near as precious as the information ’Shen Kai’ provided later on.

Scratching the back of his head awkwardly, Qian Yun agreed with a nod, contemplating what sort of questions ’Shen Kai’ could ask him. After all, due to their contract, he couldn’t exactly lie and get away with it cleanly during the exchange of information.

"Your cultivation technique, the one through which you used our signatures to bind us together, bears a significant similarity to the Circle of Laws and the law fragnts we’ve dealt with so far..."

Han Xuhan didn’t finish his question, noticing the reaction it had garnered.

Qian Yun’s hands had suddenly tightened like coiled springs, as if ready to attack at any mont, but his posture deflated as fast as the aggression had appeared.

"I suppose I should have known that you would eventually notice it. I just didn’t expect it to be so quick." A hint of grudging consideration could be discerned in his tone.

"My decision to make the deal with you was rash. After seeing your way of doing things, I can’t even tell if I should regret it or not. But oh well, I was desperate at that ti. So ask away."

Actually, Han Xuhan had noticed it a lot earlier, but he had saved this piece of valuable information for different circumstances, circumstances like right now.

He needed soone stronger than himself to protect him if they managed to get out of the circle of laws and enter the dangerous foggy area again. Qian Yun was an excellent choice for that position due to their contract.

Gauging Qian Yun’s strength and his bottom lines, or secrets that he wanted to hide—all were information that he needed to get his hands on before making that important decision.

So he had finally found a mont when Qian Yun’s defenses against him would be low. and then he had thrown the clue at his face abruptly.

The result was neat.

Qian Yun had entered ’battle mode’ for a second or two there, letting his aura beco unstable. This implied that he was sensitive about this particular piece of information, which pointed toward deeper secrets behind the similarities.

A shark-like smile appeared on Han Xuhan’s face behind the mask, one that has slled blood.

"So, Brother Yun, can you explain why and how you found out about the existence of this world fragnt? How did you co to the conclusion that it contains the inheritance ground of the Holy Land of Laws?

"You certainly entered this place long before we did, yet the nearest big sect is still clueless about the situation here. How did you, a cultivator from far away, know of the gateway outside?

"And why is your cultivation technique so similar to the core Mystic Art of the Holy Land?"

Qian Yun considered his options. Lying wasn’t one of those. Massaging his temples for a few seconds, he started speaking.

"It is true that I’ve entered this world fragnt long before you did. As to how I knew of its existence and got past the obstacles outside the foggy area... I’d rather not go into the details. All I can say is that I learned so information about this place from my great-grandfather before his death.

"On his deathbed, he told us that our family’s core technique, which we all thought to be an incomplete Mystic Art, actually belongs to a fallen super sect whose roots go beyond the stars. The lost parts of our Mystic Art could actually be found if we tracked down any of the gateways to the world fragnt where this super sect was buried.

"I wanted to prove myself, be the hero who would venture into the ruined Holy Land and retrieve that relic of our glorious past, bringing it into the present world of cultivation and shaking the world!

"It was... foolish, I admit. But we humans strive the hardest to improve when we have an obsession to follow. Mine was this, and I don’t regret it."
