After a brief mont of disorientation, Han Xuhan found himself back on the platforms. Looking around, he couldn’t see anybody except the undead army Xuanyuan Zhou had left as guards. Noticing the smaller number of zombies suddenly, he couldn’t help but shiver.
"Did so of those wander off when I was inside?"
Taking a deep breath, he wiped off the sweat that had ford on his forehead and looked up at the leaderboard.
"Oh, no..."
Ranked twenty-first, an eye-catching avatar of himself had filled up the final slot on the leaderboard.
Cultivation Base: 2nd Layer (Mystic Art)
Qi quality: 1.5 / 10
Foundation quality: 6 / 10
Law proficiency: 3 / 10 ( limited to the Alphabet Acolyte realm )
Chosen Inheritance: Sentient Contracts ( failed )
Judgnt: Due to the very poor quality and quantity of qi, coupled with his low cultivation base, this disciple has ranked last. He has also failed the assessnt test inside the platforms because of his unusual physique.
"This is just humiliating ! Why can’t the judgnt simply show if I passed or failed? Does it have to go into the details?"
Han Xuhan looked at the other slots above him, but every other avatar on the leaderboard still showed the ’pending’ status.
"Should I give it another shot?" Han Xuhan muttered as he observed his surroundings. He still had so suspicions he wanted to confirm.
Not to ntion, this place wasn’t safe right now. The zombies nearby were staring at him with a lot more interest than he was comfortable with.
Han Xuhan walked to another platform. It would take way too long to recover all of his qi again. However, he wanted to try and see if the platform could be activated with a lower amount of input.
After all, it had never been specified whether one needed to pour a certain amount of qi or whatever they possibly could. He had been successful the previous ti despite his ager contribution, hadn’t he?
There was a chance that the qi out here might not be safe either. So Han Xuhan wrote down a law fragnt on the ground and used an erald orb from his collection to fuel it.
This law was targeted at the physical and spiritual poisons in all natural and unnatural elents in his surroundings as he sat down to ditate. It ensured that he wouldn’t end up absorbing anything harmful.
After ditating without any misgivings for a few minutes, he recovered a small percentage of his qi reserves. Then he poured it down into the platform, this ti choosing the Cause and Effect path.
The violet light appeared again! Han Xuhan strained his ears to hear that unknown voice that had called his reserve small the previous ti. Sure enough, he caught it again, this ti sounding even more shocked.
"Who the hell is ssing around against the instructions? How can this trickle be called a reserve? This has to be stopped!"
By then, Han Xuhan had already teleported over to the testing hall of Cause and Effect Type Laws, feeling proud of himself.
The violet glow faded from the hall, revealing Han Xuhan with his nose in the air, hands outstretched in an elegant pose, reeking a narcissistic stink.
Had there been an onlooker to witness such a glamorous scene, it would be the whole package. Unfortunately, the only witnesses to his stylish pose were so automated statues.
"Where is a cara when you need one?" He sighed dispiritedly. Then he heard a feminine voice coming from behind.
"Boy... How long are you planning to face the opposite direction? Did your brain get left out during the teleportation?"
Han Xuhan imdiately put his arms down and turned around, standing at attention, chest out, tummy tight, ass clenched.
"Disciple Han Xuhan, reporting for duty!"
".... " The giant statue of a beautiful woman in front of him seed to feel that sothing was off, from the way he was behaving.
It waved its hand, summoning Han Xuhan’s avatar from empty air, just like the previous automaton had done a while ago. Han Xuhan patiently waited for her to finish examining his attributes.
"Already failed once? So soon? The test has barely started!"
Han Xuhan smiled proudly at being praised for his swiftness.
"Wait a minute...ranked last, QI QUALITY ONE POINT FIVE OUT OF TEN! How can it be that low? I’ve seen spirit beasts score higher!"
"Looks like the standards of the Holy Land have really fallen," Han Xuhan retorted snidely. "Even I was forcibly recruited to beco a disciple!"
"...Ahem, never mind. You should be familiar with the rules by now. I represent the Cause and Effect faction of the Holy Land of laws. If you’re ready, we can start the test. Here you go," the statue awkwardly said as two small orbs floated toward him from her throne.
Han Xuhan received the spheres with a sincere expression on his face. One of them was filled with qi for absorption as expected, while the other contained a few law letters.
Again, Xuhan decided to scrutinize the provided letters first.
The hall was silent. Han Xuhan looked like he was concentrating hard to decipher the letters in the sphere. Seeing the beads of sweat rolling down his throat, which was the only visible part of his skin, the statue was slightly puzzled.
"Hey kid, you should have expended all of your qi to activate the platform. Why are you not replenishing your qi first? You can examine the letters later and think up a suitable law fragnt."
But Han Xuhan seed so absorbed in his studious reverie that he showed no signs of paying any heed to her advice. After a long, awkward stretch of silence, he finally shook his head and looked up at her.
"What a coincidence! Despite coming into contact with the language of laws very recently, I can sohow recognize all the letters in the orb! Not even a single one seems unfamiliar!"
His shout stunned the statue of the woman.
The following events that played out were eerily the sa as Han Xuhan’s experience in the Sentient Contract platform.
The statue hesitantly exclaid that he might be fated with the Cause and Effect Faction, for such a coincidence to take place. Then it proposed again that he should try to recover his qi to begin crafting a law fragnt.
Then it ca to learn about Han Xuhan’s heaven-defying physique!
"The world of cultivation is vast and full of wonders. You learn things every day, eh? Though, I must say, are all of your platforms the sa? Relying on this single mode of examination? Show so compassion for disabled people like !"
His bitter complaint was received with utter befuddlent and silence.
Han Xuhan went through his formulaic act and returned outside the platforms a minute later, this ti much more nervously than before.
His suspicions were pointing towards a highly probable chain of events. And if his suspicions were true, then everyone who had entered the third stage might be royally screwed.
Han Xuhan thought back to everything he had learned so far about the Holy Land, tracing things back to the starting point—the Main Storyline Quest issued by his system.
His system claid that this journey would be filled with triggers of an apocalypse. And this apocalypse would be centered around Mu Ran. Mu Ran himself had also given away so ominous hints about his plan of action in this third stage. Xuanyuan Zhou had given similar indications.
Han Xuhan grew worried about the silently brewing storm in whichever test hall Mu Ran and Xuanyuan Zhou were in. But there wasn’t anything he could do other than wait for their return.
He could run away, of course, but he was quite interested in seeing how things would turn out in this inheritance test after the third stage. And it wasn’t as if running away was absolutely safe...
Thoughtfully, Han Xuhan decided to draw so laws on the ground. One can never be too cautious.
