The tentacle slithered out of the room, biting into the floor and dragging its main body along with it. The main body was an amalgamation of white flesh clumped together into a grotesque sphere. It used its tentacles to pull itself across the floor.

In the back, Reeva could vaguely see the creature devouring the knight’s body. He averted his gaze, focusing on escaping. With just him and Theia, they had no chance of killing this thing. They needed Hilda, who could use her power to affect the monster.

Upon seeing the demon, so maids imdiately scread and ran away, while others froze in place. Reeva tried to snap the frozen maids out of their fear, but it was too late. The tentacles reached them.

Their screams of pain would haunt anyone for days. The tentacles tore apart the servants’ bodies with terrifying ease, the white flesh splitting their forms with monstrous efficiency. Reeva took a quick glance at the monster; it was deceptively fast for its size.

They were moving at the sa speed, despite the demon using half of its tentacles to devour people.

This was not the sa as in his [Foresight]. Demons had levels of power depending on how much mystic force they possessed. The one chasing them now wasn’t that much of a threat—yet.

From what Reeva could tell when he looked back, the demon could grow stronger simply by killing and absorbing people. It was getting bigger, albeit not significantly, after each victim.

"Stop right there!"

A group of Gully’s knights finally arrived after hearing the commotion. The knights turned a corner, and the first thing they saw was Reeva running toward them. They rightfully assud he was a thief or worse...

"Run! Get out of here!"

Reeva scread at the top of his lungs, but the knights drew their swords, determined to stop him. Their determination quickly faded when they saw what was behind Reeva.

"What the hell is that!?"

One of them scread, having never seen anything like it before. The weirdest thing they’d encountered was so beast in the woods, but this was no beast of the woods. No creature was this grotesque.

"Stand your ground and hold your shields up! Ready the arrows!"

One of the older knights yelled his command, snapping the others out of their shock. The knights at the front raised their shields, forming a five-man formation. The old man stayed in the middle, and three others drew their bows.

"Run! You can’t kill it with normal weapons!"

Reeva tried to warn them, but they didn’t budge an inch. They’d rather trust their commander than so random kid. However, they didn’t realize they were headed straight for disaster.

Damn it.

Reeva cursed silently. Not only were they being reckless, but they were also blocking his exit. He blas the church for keeping information about a demon secret.

"Move out of the way!"

"Fire!"

Reeva cursed them even harder as an arrow narrowly missed him by a hair. He could tell they were also aiming for him.

"Don’t let the heretic escape!" The older knight’s voice is firm assuring the knights around him that they are on the right track.

"We are not heretics!"

Reeva scread in response, but he knew they wouldn’t listen. The commander gave the order, and the knights behind him drew another round arrow. This ti, Reeva was much closer to them than before.

"Yurdle the turtle, the one to rule them all!"

Theia judged that this was the best ti to use her power. The turtle manifested in her palm, but it could only focus its gaze on one place. She decided to aim it at the knights, as the arrows posed a more imdiate threat than the advancing white demon.

The knights froze in place, their faces locked from changing their expressions to fear and confusion. Reeva had a brief mont to breathe, but not much. The demon was still fast approaching, and Theia’s turtle summon wouldn’t last long.

Reeva’s mind raced as he glanced around the hallway, searching for an escape. They couldn’t simply walk past the knights’ squad—so of them would likely unfreeze as Theia got closer. He looked to the side and saw their only option.

A window.

They were in a two-story hallway, and jumping down would hurt them, but compared to facing arrows and a demon, fall damage seed like the lesser evil. Making a quick decision, Reeva grabbed Theia and jumped out of the window, shattering the glass in the process.

They fell from the building into a garden bush below. It wasn’t an easy decision, but the sight of the bush had made it a little less daunting. Reeva quickly checked the situation upstairs, he could only see the knights engaging with the monster.

He wanted to help them, but there was no way through.

In a better universe, they might have survived.

Only if he were better at this. He pushed himself up and saw that Theia had fallen asleep. She would recover quickly since she’d only used one of her summons. He lifted her into a proper position and bolted away as fast as he could.

Thankfully, Theia didn’t seem to have suffered any serious injuries, at least not visibly. Reeva, on the other hand, felt imnse pain in his leg. It had taken the brunt of the fall, saving him from more serious harm.

His mind was focused on one thing, finding Hilda and getting out of there. They were in no position to fight such a monster. This wasn’t the sa demon as the one in the city, and its potential was likely lesser, given that it only had the manor’s inhabitants to feast on.

The church could probably handle it...

He thought as he looked up to the second floor. What he saw was grueso—a desperate attempt by the knights to hold off the monster. Blood splattered across the windows as the creature reached them.

If he left now, the entire manor would be consud. The servants and knights would all be devoured by the demon before the church could arrive.

At that mont, Reeva asked himself.

Is that what I want?
